Kallisto Greek Restaurant

Hmm. Not too happy. This place used to have a take special for like 2 years– it was buy one souvlaki platter and get the second for ½ price. Bottom line, 2 platters ran ya like $ 37 tax in and now it’s like $ 48. That’s too much. I’ll be hitting the competition next time we crave greek food. I see they are expanding the restaurant. Leasing more space so they can do take out and delivery. Guess that cost is being passed on to the customers? BYE BYE Kallisto

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Ottawa and because we arrived later we wanted to try something close to my future sister in law’s neighborhood. We came upon this restaurant. It’s quiet outside but inside was buzzing with activity. Service was good overall, our waitress asked if we wanted to move to somewhere quieter as there was a larger party there tonight, which was really nice of her. We ordered souvlaki pork and chicken, meat moussaka and crab cake. Portions were on the larger side (which is great!) and I wasn’t able to finish my food. Entrees also came with a side of salad. The food is actually very delish! I didn’t find it too salty and everything was quite tasty, almost like homestyle but better than just that. The crab cake could have been a bit tougher, the inside was quite soft and kind of fell apart as soon as I started digging into it. The rice was really good, potatoes were amazing! The moussaka I would’ve liked it more if there was some kind of tomato sauce with it too, but it was still pretty good.
The only thing (and why it’s 4 and not 5 stars) I will point out is that while all the tables were served with bread baskets, we were not served. I didn’t end up asking for it since I was already full, but it could be because it was because of the large party they may have forgot our table, but would be nice to try their bread basket!
Anyway I would recommend coming here. Food here is pretty good :)

With the large number of boring fast food greek places in Ottawa, Kallisto’s is a step above the rest. The simple things are the best. Their greek salad is fresh and tasty (try adding chicken!). The dressing is amazing, their souvlakis are marinated and charred to perfection, and the gyros are wonderful!

My husband and I ordered two chicken souvlaki platters to go. When I went in for pick-​up the restaurant was quite busy despite that it was off dinner rush (around 9PM). The platters had the go-​to staples — rice, potatoes, Greek salad, and, of course, chicken skewers. We added pita bread as a side. If I return, I would skip the pita bread. It was tasteless and added nothing to the platter. The rice was good, the potatoes were bland, the chicken tasted good, but the texture was only okay. I don’t really plan on going back as it didn’t wow me and I don’t live in the area. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great. As it’s similarly priced to most other Greek restaurants in Ottawa, I think there are better out there at this price point. I will say that the man who took my order and handed me my food was friendly. I got the impression that they do care about treating their customers well, which may explain the full dining room.

A nice clean friendly simple Greek restaurant. Nice wait staff and very nice owners. I recommend the lamb souvlaki and the Greek lemon chicken soup. My friends and I have been there twice so far and never have gotten anything remotely disappointing. The prices are also very reasonable.

The place could have a better location but once your in its great. Service food staff. Great.

We went to Kallisto for dinner while visiting Ottawa. Disovered it on Unilocal and were very pleased. It’s a little underwhelming from the outside (change the entry door graphics) — but once inside it’s a very nice modern place. We had dinner, the Saganaki appetizer was terrific, with the flashing (fire in pan) done at the table side — about a 3 foot flame! Opa!
The starter greek salad was very good, pretty sure it was home made dressing which is a nice plus — everything was very fresh.
Had the mixed grill for 2 which was fantastic, and could easily feed 3 people unless your famished. All of the meat was very well seasoned, cooked and tender.
Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a great greek meal.

The greek salad dressing is REALLY good… and I mean, anyone can make friggen dressing, but this is one that I will remember and crave (crave salad. who knew)
I don’t normally like potatoes, but the ones that came with my take out dinner were suprisingly moist and had a refreshing spice to it. Going back to the dressing part, most of the meal was like this. Easy to make but something about it here made it *that* much better. It seems like a family run restaurant — we were helped but more than one person and were never left waiting too long.

Best food everrrr! So quick i can go on my lunch break. Its always fresh and the best greek in the city! Nice people work there too

OMG!!! Delicious!!! Live 2_​mins from this place and finally tried it after years. Now I’ll be back monthly. Had the lamb souvlaki platter. Salad & dressing were perfect, excellent potatoes and the lamb was cooked to perfection!!! My new fave spot fo sho!!!

Very good restaurant. The server we had was in tune with the menu and she helped us decide what we wanted to eat.
Food came and it was delicious. I had a vegetarian gyro. The sauce was awesome and it was a perfect amount. The gyro was cooked well and there definitely care puto into the prep.
The one downside is they have awesome lunch deals but, only if you takeout. We were eating in.

Stopped in here this evening for dinner with my friend. We decided to get some take out. The restaurant was clean and nice. It was a tad dark in there but I didn’t mind. The waitress who served us was so sweet! She gave us free drinks too!
We ordered the Gyro plate, which comes with a Gyro sandwich, Greek style potatoes and Greek salad. The sandwich was really good, the pita bread was fresh. The potatoes were yummy, but there were only 3 slices? I thought that was kind of a small portion. I was disappointed because Greek potatoes are my favourite. The salad was great though! I might visit here again and try the souvlaki next time. :)

I have been to the restaurant many times but here is the first review. We got there just before it got crowded for lunch. Had an opening hummus plate with pita and crackers that was great. Then a lamb wrap and Greek salad. Both were good, although I prefer sliced lamb as compared to the chunks. Something else to watch for is that a refill on your drink will cost you. All in all a great meal of you are yearning for Greek.

We were in town for Winterlude and we decided to take a cab from our hotel to this restaurant. It was well worth it. They honored our reservations on time and welcomed us like we were family. The humus appetizer was very tasty and the portion was huge for the three of us. The salads came out with a very tasty dressing and once again a large portion. We had the chicken souvlaki and the vegetarian moussaka. The portions were big and more importantly, very tasty. We even took some home with us. The service was very good and friendly and the place was clean. One of the patrons forgot their purse when they left and the staff went outside looking for them. Prices are very reasonable for the portions and quality of food. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

I felt that this restaurant is not 100% Greek authentic. I had chicken souvlaki and my plate was alright, nothing special. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking to have a real Greek meal.

This place is a real gem! A friend knew I liked Greek and so took me out there. Being Euro, I felt something about the menu was not authentically Greek, but my friend told me the owners are Lebanese, which explained some of the items. Service was not fast, but they were friendly and unpretentious. There were no photos of the food and so I skipped the starter and went for the lamb/​shrimp platter. I nearly died when they brought out a separate plate of Greek salad and another larger plate with the main course. The food is fresh, well-​prepared, over-​sized and priced low ($ 18) — the same meal in much of Europe would cost $ 50 – 60. Not hyper-​classy like downtown, but a place you should check out. I will definitely be back.

I have been here a few times and I really love it. The food is good, portions are generous, service is friendly and excellent. The prices are moderate but fair, and their specials are always a good price!

I had a very delicious plate of chicken Slouvaki. Plate was not overloading with carb of rice and potatoes. The waiters were wonderful. The place looks new and is kept very clean. My friend and I will definitely be heading back.
