Definitely the best tasting shawarma downtown. tried the others this past week and does not compare. Really clean and fresh chicken(not served day old chicken like others) falafel is really good to. This is my spot from now on.

Their prices are not bad but their quality and service leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered the shawarma special. i think it was about $ 8 for a shawarma, pop and potatos/salad. It was honestly the worst potatoes I had ever had. If it weren’t for the super fatty garlic sauce they give you, it would have zero taste. It was super messy… my shawarma was literally dripping with liquid(water/sauce?) and fell apart after 2 bites. I had to eat it with a fork. The person who made my sandwich was super slow… I don’t know how long I waited for him to put everything together… but he looked like he was just there to pass time. I didn’t even know I had a choice between potatos or salad until after I left the restaurant and saw the sign outside. I mean does it take that much effort to ask salad or potatos?

This is an old review I’ve been meaning to finish for a while now! I had my first taste of Middle Eastern food in Halifax. I had an amazing kofte kebob on a pita at a Turkish restaurant when i was a kid and loved Turkish/Middle Eastern food ever since. Oddly enough, Ottawa doesn’t have Turkish food similar to the stuff you can get in Halifax, LOTS of Lebanese shawarma, but I’ve not had anything near as good as the stuff in Halifax. So, when I saw a place dedicated to kabobs I had high hopes I’d be able to find something similar. They totally do have the kebabs I was referring to. But unfortunately the kebab I got didn’t cut it for me. This place does shawarma, and the shawarma looked delicious, the ingredients were fresh, meat was visibly juicy and delicious, etc. However, I think they just dress the kabobs up all the same no matter what type it is. I was expecting the kofte kebab I got to have the yogurt sauce I got at the Turkish restaurant back home, or something similar. Unfortunately it came with the same garlic sauce you get at any shawarma place. Maybe their philosophy is «hey, shawarma is popular, lets not stray too far from every other shawarma place.» Which is disappointing. My kebab had delicious pieces of ground up seasoned chicken. But the toppings were the same as any shawarma you’d get anywhere in the city, so I was therefore disappointed. I feel like if they stuck with traditional toppings, and made sure to make the toppings different for different kebabs, they would be really good.

I dropped in to check things out and I was pleased with the restaurant. It’s very spacious with simple seating. At the time there were only 6 or 7 other people inside, but it could easily seat 50 I’m sure. Anyhow at the counter I learned that it is actually Iraqi cooking with a BBQ and Shawarma also so you could expect some small variations in spices. I was interested in trying the Beef Tikka Kabob but as the BBQ was not lit it would have took about 20 minutes to make so i elected to have a beef Shawarma sandwich. The ingredients were very fresh looking with vibrant greens and bright pickled turnips. They were very generous with the sauces and in addition to the humus and garlic sauce there was a spicy hot sauce that I tried too. The resulting creation was delicious and I enjoyed it with a yogurt drink. Throughout the service was friendly and the atmosphere was quiet in the restaurant. The price for the small shawarma sandwich was a little high at $ 6.95 but then again they do have a downtown location to pay for. I will return later to try the BBQ kabob and maybe the Okra they had on the menu.

This is the least expensive Shawarma place I have been to in all of Ottawa. The food was on par with the other Shawarma places. But we got the best service at this place than any of the other Shawarma/Kabob places I’ve been too in the city

This large new restaurant was under construction forever but opened sometime between before Christmas to January. We dropped into the place to try some of the kabobs since it’s a kabob restaurant. The kabobs were OK but there’s better options in town. The one thing I didn’t like about the platter itself was that it reminded me more of a shawarma platter than some of the other good kabob platters in town. I don’t think I’ll frequent this place for the kabobs but they do have a bakery with some cheap items to go. $ 1.50-$ 5 range with some baked breads and pies. Not a bad way to get some quick carbs in the system. Definitely makes the cheap eats list. You’ll have to figure out what kind of pies you like as there is a decent selection.

Kabab Prince recently opened at the old Book Market location on Dalhousie St. It’s very spacious and there is a lot of seating available. They boast«Mediterranean and Authentic Iraqi Cuisine.» The are like a shawarma joint, kabab grill and Middle-Eastern bakery in one, as they sell shawarma, falafels, kababs, grilled chicken, zaatar, lahmajouns, and fatayers. I’ve been there twice now. Once for their Shawarma Combo($ 7.99) and once for their lahmajouns(meat pies)($ 1.75 each). The Shawarma Combo comes with a shawarma sandwich(I had beef), garlic potatoes and a can of pop. The shawarma sandwich was good. It didn’t have as much meat as I am used to, but the meat was very fragrant. They use more spices than most shawarma places I’ve tried. I tasted a lot more cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice than usual. And their meat has a licorice note to it(perhaps anise? chervil? I’m not sure). The taste is distinctively different from other shawarma places that I’ve tried. The potatoes are very good. Again, much more flavourful than other places. Lots of spices on their potatoes. I had the spicy mayo and it was delicious. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by their meat pies. The ones I was served were only slightly warmer than room temperature. I like my meat pies really hot. I suspect that the turnover here is not as high as places like Aladdin’s or Farhat’s so the pies are not as fresh. The meat also had a licorice note to it and a sweet cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice note to it like the shawarma meat. I liked it in the shawarma, but I’m not sure that I’m crazy about that in the meat pies. It lacked the smokey flavour that I like about Aladdin’s pies. However, they meat pies here are much better than the ones they serve at Shawarma Deluxe(which are pre-packaged and really stale), so Kabab Prince is probably the best option in the downtown core/Byward Market. If they heated the pies up hotter, they would be much better. I really appreciated that the food handlers wore gloves and took them off when handling money. This is very rare of shawarma places in Ottawa. Extra points for sanitation! I will be back for the shawarma, and will probably even give the meat pies another chance.
