I visited the Apothecary today on the off chance they might carry Marvis toothpaste, and lo and behold, there it was. Along with all of the other weird toiletries I sometimes seek, all for good prices. Cheapest Dr. Bronner soap I’ve seen. And I got Optimum points on top of that? Thank you, thank you.

My wife has really bad dry skin. We aren’t covered by Canadian healthcare yet, so we have to rely on pharmacists for advice on which treatments would be the most effective. Sadly, the big chain pharmacies seem to be about selling People magazines and chips rather than dispensing any help. And, try to find a minute to speak to a pharmacist. So, we have been looking for a more independent, local pharmacy and found the Glebe Apothecary during a walk in that neighbourhood. It is such a great-looking building. We just couldn’t not go in. Wow, what a difference small makes. Less truly is more. We found the selection(of crap) way smaller than a big chain. But, they seemed to offer us more of what we really wanted — assistance. If you want pharmaceutical advice, rather than someone who tells you what aisle to find lotions, then you need to frequent the Glebe Apothecary.

While it doesn’t have the low prices and selection of the new Shopper’s Drug Mart up the street, the Glebe Apothecary strives to maintain a loyal customer following by offering attentive service. The service I’ve received has always been very friendly and if I had any questions, they were answered without any hassle. This is a good option for people who value this attention to customer service or who want to avoid supporting big box stores. This area of Ottawa is especially anti-chain store, so that’s possibly why this pharmacy has been able to thrive against the big wig on Glebe Avenue.
