Went in there lunch time hoping to get some Hakka food but they only serve that for dinner time. We ended up ordering some Vindaloo, Spinach and Biryani. The Vindaloo was very spicy(menu stated it would be) but enjoyable. Spinach was by far the best dish. The kids loved it as well. Biryani was OK. Needed more flavor. I ended up mixing the biryani with the Vindaloo. Overall a decent experience, I really wanted to try the Hakka as another review by Jennifer P. Maybe on the next trip

I ate at Chillies a second time tonight with my husband and their food is still amazing! I think they also improved their service since last time as there was very little wait throughout our dinner. We ordered the usual mango lassi to drink and to eat, I thought we’d explore outside the curry world. We chose the malai tikka which was very moist and fragrant and grilled to perfection. It came with a side salad and a bright green raita(I think it was a mixture of yogurt, mint, green hot peppers, cilantro and possibly fenugreek leaves). To go along with this my husband thought we should try a vegetarian dish so we settled for the chana masala: a deliciously hot yet delicately spiced chick pea curry in a concentrated tomato gravy and served in the cutest copper bucket. Those chick peas were definitely the star of the show tonight. Instead of rice, we opted for paratha to accompany all that: four loaves to be exact. They once again did not disappoint. We think they are the ones they make the best: they’re very flaky, crunchy all around and super moist inside. All that costed only 44 $. Great deal for so much deliciousness! Chillies definitely remains my favourite and the best Indian restaurant of all times.

Overview: Service 1⁄5 Atmosphere 2⁄5 Food 4⁄5 So the sign outside clearly says, «Chillies»,“Dine In” and, «Fast food». I came here because I wanted to dine in. So I walk in. and I’m super confused. there’s tables somewhat nicely laid out that makes it look like a dine in restaurant, but it’s also kind of set up as if you go up to the till and order(like at mcdonald’s or something). I asked the waitress if I could just look at the menu, so she tells me, «It’s over there» and points in the general direction of where it is. Not knowing where it is, I ask her if she can show me. So I stand there by the till reading the menu, and I decide on the lamb korma. Our conversation kinda went like this. «Can I get the lamb korma? And would it be possible to make it non-spicy?» «You want it extra spicy?» «No. Non-spicy, I can’t eat spicy.» *she stares at me for a few seconds* «So you want it mild?» «Yeah sure, that will be fine.» So after ordering, I just stand there awkwardly because she still hasn’t seated me and my girlfriend yet. So we just seat ourselves at an empty table. She comes around and serves us water soon after. I waited half an hour before a different waitress comes and asks me what I ordered. I tell her what I ordered and she says, «Oh, your food has been ready for 10 minutes now.» So I finally get my food, but it’s all packaged as if it was take-out. I never asked for take-out! The first waitress never even asked me so I figured she knew I was there to dine in! She even served us water at our table so she knew, yet she served it all packed up! Now I feel super awkward eating the packaged food at a table. but the food was pretty good. EXCEPTITWASSPICYEVENWHEN I ASKEDFORITNOTTOBE. And no, I’m not sensitive to spiciness. I’m Korean and eat spicy food passionately, but I asked for non-spicy because my stomach hasn’t been doing well with spicy food lately. Yes the food tasted very good, but it was $ 17 and didn’t fill me up. I left without leaving a tip. tl;dr Terrible service Confusing atmosphere Good food but not worth price

We were a party of 4 adults and one 4 year old who is the sweetest, cutest little girl in all of Ottawa, nay, North America. Our daughter and son-in-law took us out because it was my wife’s birthday. She’s an Indian and a great cook, so we rarely eat out, and when we do, it’s rarely Indian food. We had reservations but it was Wednesday and the place was practically empty(save for the take-out people) and we were immediately seated. My wife had a Punjabi fish dish and said she liked it. I had Mongolian prawns served on a bed of rice with various peppers. It was quite good but I would’ve liked more prawns and larger ones. Our daughter, who is more pregnant than a long pause, had a paneer dish but said it was bland. Our son-in-law had butter chicken – he’ doesn’t do well with spicy food, unless you categorize bacon as spicy, and enjoyed it. Overall, the food is decent. We had several rice dishes which were all good, and the nan was okay, but nothing to write Delhi about. Prices are fair and I may go back again, but there are other Indian restaurants that are yet to be seen. I hear Mia is good, but I’ll need to taste for myself.

My husband and I went here for an early dinner recently and the food was awesome. So they serve Indian food here and also what they call«Indo-Chinese Fusion Cuisine»(aka Hakka Cuisine). They are one of the few places in Ottawa to serve Hakka food(I believe that Urban Turban is the other place — haven’t been there though). Hakka cuisine is quite common in Toronto, but it has yet to become popular in Ottawa. We both ordered from the Hakka menu. So the funny thing that happened was, I saw a picture on the menu of a noodle dish that looked really good, but I didn’t recognize it, so I asked the server which dish that was because I wanted to order it. And the server says«that’s just a picture» it’s not one of the dishes that they actually serve(!). Uh ok. So I ordered Chicken Chili Garlic Noodles($ 10.49) and my husband had the Chillies Chicken(13.99). My husband’s dish came out first(we were sharing, so no big deal). The Chillies Chicken is lightly breaded chicken tossed in a spicy chili sauce, with red, green and yellow peppers, on a bed of basmati rice. It was absolutely delicious. The big chunks of white breast meat were so flavourful. The peppers had a nice crunch to them. The sauce was rather spicy, but manageable. We loved every single bite. My dish came after we started eating the Chillies Chicken. It did not look like it had any chicken in it at all. I forked through the entire plate and did not find a single piece of chicken. So I went and got the server and told him that there is no chicken in my Chicken Chili Garlic Noodles. He said he would take the dish back to the chef. He came back out and said that the chef mistakenly gave us the Vegetarian Chili Garlic Noodles and he would add some chicken and it would just take a few minutes. A few minutes later the server returned with chicken in the dish. He apologized for the mistake. My noodle dish was satisfactory, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. There are other things on the menu that I would rather try. It was just regular noodles, stir-fried with red, green and yellow peppers, onions, and cabbage, and lightly-breaded chicken breast. The spices were a fusion of Indian and Chinese spices. The Chillies Chicken was rather spicy and my husband finished his water quickly. The server was very polite and nice, but it would have been nicer if he was more attentive with re-filling our waters. Alternatively, he could have given us a jug of water and we could have helped ourselves. We were the only diners in the restaurant. Part way through our meal a man came in with a young boy and they picked up an order that they had presumably called in. The place is larger than I expected. They have a few tables at the front of the restaurant where the chairs are like small sofas. They looked nice but I’m not sure I would want to eat dinner sitting on a sofa. We sat at a regular table. Overall the food is excellent, although I find it a little pricey for the amount you get and especially in comparison to Toronto where you can get chili chicken and a soup for $ 5.50. However, Hakka cuisine is a rarity in Ottawa, so I guess you pay for that. Chillies is in a strip mall so there’s lots of free parking. It’s in the same complex as a Your Independent Grocer, Cora’s and a Salvation Army store. I will be back :)

Great sub continent food, their Biryani, Beef and Chicken Kababs are a must try! They also have a fast food style shop in Portage Phase IV.

We were in the area and was looking for a late lunch place and walked in to this restaurant. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was good. Ordered Lamb Biriyani, Chapathi and Bingan Bhartha. The Biriyani is definitely good to share for 2 ppl. It was spiced well and may be needed a bit of a salt touch for my pallet. My son enjoyed the Mango Lassi which he ordered. The vegetable curry was also good and went well with the Chapathi. Added few pics of the food on the profile. Overall it was a good meal!!!

I ended up at this restaurant with a group of friends after one of them had listened to a review on the CBC recently. I had also read a review in the citizen from last year that made it sound very promising. Let me start by saying that we had a very good meal. We were a bit disappointed that it wasn’t licensed, but I guess had we done our research properly we would have realized that. Nevertheless, the menu has an excellent variety of dishes. Everything we had was prepared very well. For appetizers we had some pakoras. They were good, nothing outstanding but good. For mains we had butter chicken, Chana masala, a tandoori dish(harayali kebab) and bhaingan barta(eggplant). The harayali kebab was outstanding. It was a little unusual iin that when it came to us, the chicken was all green. The green color came from the combination of mint, spinach, coriander and green chillies. It wasn’t spicy but was very flavourful. I would say that the one thing I had that I thought was average to mediocre was the Mango Lhassi. I’ve had much better. All in all, a very good meal reasonably priced. I will be back.
