I booked a private room for my girlfriend and I. She was very excited when she see it. The food was great, the service was a little slow but satisfactory. They should consider cleaning there carpets. But besides that it was great. I will return

Amazing little spot. Reserve a private room downstairs– it was super special. They shabu shabu was good, I compared it to some I’ve had in Tokyo. Meat wasn’t as tender as I’d hoped. Service was great, food was good. I would come back!

Went here for a lunch with some work friends. Since we all work in the down town core this place was well situated. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Everyone got something different and all were well fed by the end. A tad pricey but only by a couple dollars compared to other Japanese places in the down town. It was a rather large group and they were well oranized enough to get everyone’s order right and separate bills too! The food was good. Nothing mind boggling. But defiantly worth the outing.

Ok, let’s be honest here… I’m not rating 5 stars based on food alone. If you go downstairs, there is an area that is a total 70’s throw-back, faux babbling brook, tatami rooms, etc. A little perilous if you’re not careful of your step, but it’s like traveling back in time, and reminded me of my favorite child-hood restaurant that unfortunately closed almost 10 years ago. I went with my bf’s family and a number of us shared a huge amount of sushi, as well as a bit of sashimi(with edamame and wakame salad to start). Some also got udon or soba noodles, but sushi is one of my favorite foods, so I couldn’t resist. The food was really fresh, quick to arrive, and the service was so courteous. If I didn’t live 2 hours away, I’d be a regular. My bf tried their ginger salad dressing and is now addicted to it, he buys a container of it to go every time he’s in town!

Popped in here after a good workout. Pleasantly surprised by the service and the atmosphere. The sushi was good. Entrees were a little pricier than anticipated but I would say good value for the money. Excellent sake selection too!

Tatami avec les amies! Had a wonderful girls night out at C’est Japon à Suisha. The place reminds me of the Japanese restaurants of ‘yesteryear’, once so rare before sushi became so popular in the late 90′. A throwback to when sushi places were aiming to make the customer travel to an exotic place. As for the fish itself, it is lovely, fresh and the rice is nicely cooked(scallops were awesome). The wakame salad was wonderfully sweet and a hint of heat from what I assume is chili. The fish selection is limited although I am always weary of an ‘in-land’ sushi place with many exotic varieties… chances are it comes straight from the freezer. A good option is the Sashimi-Nigiri Combination at 35 $, you get the best of everything. Will return with my peeps.

What can I say about Suisha to everyone out there that I haven’t said to everyone I’ve met? Having been to Tokyo and the Ginza what I can say is save the trip expense of eating true Japanese in Japan. Suisha’s food and dining experience is true to its origins, expertly prepared and served by wonderful hosts every time. My family and I have grown up with the business having been loyal fans for some 27 years. Owner Mike always has a warm smile and greeting for all who enter as he sets the stage for an elegant dining experience. Its really difficult to pick menu favourites as I’ve never had a disappointing bite throughout my innumerable visits, but I’ll highlight my favs; Suisha Combination; can’t begin to tell you how many of these I’ve devoured! Soft Shell Crab; ’nuff said, sheer heaven. Hotategai, a celebration of the tastiest scallops. Yakitori, gateway Japanese food for kids and adults alike. Gyoza’s of any kind ANYTHINGSUSHI; only the finest cuts served, they know fresh seafood and fish. Shabu Shabu; special date night dinner guaranteed to impress Green tea ice cream; I could live on that stuff. Sake, sake, sake, gotta have it! So I hope you step out of the«meat and potatoes» comfort zone and try something a little more refined. Suisha’s menu has never disappointed and newbies to Sushi get over their fears after one bite; it’s that good.

This place has gotta be the cutest little restaurant I’ve been in. Its kinda tucked away but you can find it by looking for the non-functioning water wheel. Upon entering, you’re greeted by Japanese music, and the scariest looking badger statue ever. Apparently the badger brings good luck to businesses but I found it terrifying. I’ll upload photos. We were seated immediately and our adorable waitress brought us hot towels and menus. My guests both ordered Japanese beers but I’m not a fan of Sapporo so I decided to be unadventurous and stuck with water. My guests both enjoyed their beers and I can’t remember what kinda they got unfortunately, but they definitely have a great selection of Japanese liquor/beer. I ordered the chicken teriyaki as I don’t like sushi and the waitress recommended it. I started with an order of gyoza, I opted for them deep fried. My teriyaki came with miso soup and I really enjoyed the soup and I generally hate miso, this place is the first place ever that I’ve been able to finish a bowl. The deep fried gyoza were really really good. They were so crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and seasoned on the inside. The sauce they serve them with was delicious too, two huge thumbs up from me. The teriyaki unfortunately was not good and is what brought my review down a point. It was made with all dark meat with some chunks of fat in it which is a pet peeve of mine. I realize dark meat is used primarily in some dishes but I don’t think teriyaki is one of them. The teriyaki came with potatoes, carrots and broccoli. The chunks of carrots were excessively big and so were the potatoes. It made it really hard to eat. There was also a lack of sauce in the dish which made it bland. Our server was really cute and super sweet. I like that the servers wear traditional Japanese outfits with the beautiful colourful silk. Atmosphere: definite 5⁄5 Food: 2.5÷5 Service: 5⁄5

I like Japanese food. This is the best one around that I’ve been to. I’ve been here for lunch and dinner. Nice cozy space downstairs, regular tables upstairs. Dinner service can run slow at times but lunch is usually very fast. I like the Suisha combination for lunch. It has a little bit of everything except for sushi, and you get to use the ginger dressing. For dinner, I’ve tried many different plates and always have been satisfied. It is a bit pricy but if you are willing to splurge once in a while, you might give it a shot here.

There’s not so great ayce ottawa sushi, then there’s sushi at this place. Extremely disappointed, considering everything looked so japanesy, I didn’t expect it to be so bad.

Plenty of reviews here talk about the dining experience so I’ll just stick to my own personal take. While technically this place falls into the«moderate» category of price, I’d call it pricy for what it gives. I dropped in for lunch today and paid $ 14 plus tax for 8 chunks of tempura vegetables, a tiny bowl of rice, and some sauce. It wasn’t even what I’d ordered, but I was too hungry and too short on time to send it back. Vegetarian options are extremely limited. I wouldn’t have come had I not been invited by co-workers for a get together. I will certainly not be returning.

C’est Japon a Suisha is a sit-down Japanese restaurant located next to the Bank street bus stop. It used to be called Suisha Gardens. It’s been open for quite a while, which is never a bad sign. It offers a traditional Japanese Canadian restaurant, even going so far as to have a non-functioning water wheel outside. They offer gentle lighting, a sushi bar and tatami rooms. If you want to sit in a tatami room, I’d recommend reserving beforehand. The lunch menu has no vegetarian options. I’m sure you could adjust the udon or tempura but I would avoid this place for lunch if you’re veg or vegan. You can always order a la carte items to make a meal, but even those are limited to the usual suspects; tamago(omelet), inari(tofu pockets), kappa-maki(cucumber), oshinko(pickled radish), shibazuke-maki(pickled red cucumber), avocado rolls and gourd rolls. They offer ume-boshi(pickled plum) rolls, which is pretty cool. There’s also the usual«vegetarian» appetizers. Be careful! Many of them include bonito, which are fish shavings. The same goes for most miso soups and tempura sauces. Always ask your server. I found the menu some what traditional for Canadian Sushi restaurants, which isn’t a bad thing. You should know what you’re getting into. The quality of the fish and vegetable ingredients were very fresh. The menu offered many meals which had sushi, tempura, teryaki, gyoza, and strip loin steak in various combinations. They also offer traditional fare including soba, udon, and donburi. The prices of the menu seemed a little off to me. Some of the meals were reasonably to maybe just a little high while others seems a little extravagant to me. My sashimi salad dinner cost 18.99 and was more than enough food. It included tea and soup. My friend ordered a la carte meal and it was more then enough for a full appetite. They offer a full liquor menu with lots of wine, a few sake options, beers, and sweet flavored mixed drinks. They also have some interesting vodka infused drinks including wasabe, green tea and I think ginger. My head was hurting when I went so I didn’t get a drink. I can’t really see myself having the urge to drink wasabi flavored vodka. It did seem interesting the wasabi ceasar. I wish I had taken a photo of the drink and desert menu. I do remember the deserts including mochi, green tea cheesecake and everyone’s favorite, fruit! I think the quality and service here is superb. I think if you order off the menu wisely, this restaurant can be delightful restaurant with good value. I think 18.99 $ is a totally appropriate price for a bento box style meal with a soup and salad.

I had dinner here on a tuesday night. It was early, so the restaurant was near empty(I was unintentionally on time for the early bird special: 10% off on orders placed before 5pm on tuesday and thursday. The service was quick and friendly, but the food was not good. I’m actually not that judgemental about sushi, the only sushi I don’t like is supermarket sushi. But this food was like diner sushi. It did not taste fresh. Now that I think about it, it was probaly taken off of one of those boats that was going around and around the moat, loaded with food in expectation of customers.

A true gem in the middle of downtown Ottawa; I was carving sushi after hours in the air and this fit exactly what I wanted. I was the ONLY one there at 9pm so I had the whole sushi bar to myself. The chef was born, raised, and trained in Japan so I knew that I was more than likely going to get some goodness. First positive sign, I requested omakase and he didn’t bat an eye and was soon dishing up goodness. All of the fish was fresh and tasted good(not as good as some of my faves in CA, but for the middle of Canada this was better than the majority of sushi I have had back home). I knew I had his trust once he was brining up fish hidden«in the back,» hamachi and fresh uni. The uni was even better than a lot I’ve had back home too! Two of my favorites were the house-smoked salmon and tuna that I had at the beginning. The service was STELLAR!!! The waiter, owner, and amazing itame made this a truly memorable experience and if you ever find yourself in Ottawa go HERE for memorable sushi!

Delicious. I always come by with family for special occasions — you can reserve a private room or go in the main area which has dividers, calm music and polite staff. We usually go with the Suisha Combination — miso soup, chef’s choice of sushi, tempura, dumplings, teriyaki chicken, steamed vegetables and a choice of dessert. It’s a great sample of everything. I highly recommend this sushi. It’s always fresh, the fish is always tender and flavorful and you get lots of variety. On a few occasions I’ve seen the owner/manager come by and speak to several tables and ask them about their meal.

Suisha has been my fav sushi restaurants in Ottawa for over a decade. The service downstairs is very slow and you can’t see the sushi chef so if you go for the sushi ask to be seated upstairs. The hotate and ama ebi are fantastic.

I’ve been here twice and I had the same dish each time. I am a salmon-lover, so I got the Teriyaki Salmon and Sushi Combination both times. It comes with rice, salmon, salad and a variety of sushi(chef’s choice). My sushi was a few California rolls, a couple of salmon and tuna and some shrimp pieces. Both times it was delicious and I ate the whole plate. I especially like how the food comes on the divided plates so that you have little sections of everything that you are eating. My sister was with me the second time and also loved the salmon. Dishes are around $ 30 each, but definitely worth the splurge. The service is always great here and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Their are private rooms available for groups. «Suisha» is Japanese for«waterwheel» and you can find this restaurant by looking for its large waterwheel outside. The philosophy of this restaurant is that the waterwheel is very soothing and they strive to provide a relaxing ambiance for their guests.
