I needed a tank printed with a custom design that I made. Although we ran into some trouble with the printer that seemed extremely uncommon, the staff were very helpful and didn’t settle for anything less then what I expected. The outcome was great! A little pricey as some have mentioned, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

I needed a rather ridiculous and strange custom shirt made for a party that I was hosted and I needed it on the day of and I was in a pinch. I was told to try this place so I brought a friend and sure enough, they had the graphic I was looking for and they set me up. I was expecting to pay more for a shirt that had a custom graphic and custom design(you pick the style of shirt along the colour and size) but in the end the shirt was priced about the same as if you were to purchase an already made one. The woman who pressed the graphic onto the shirt did so quickly but also took great care to ensure the graphic turned out properly. They have books and books of choices for custom shirts and they have pretty well every category you can think of along with topical and very recent ideas. If you need a shirt custom designed or team shirts done I would suggest Bang-On to anyone in Ottawa.

Bang On is a shop that I would have loved about four years ago, but I’m getting a bit tired of this 70s-90s ironic nostalgia, especially the inauthentic kind. For $ 30 you can get a shirt pounded with your choice of design. You can choose between logos from Nintendo, children’s programming, rock icons, porn covers, etc. You can also put transfers on trucker hats, dresses or jackets. If I was ever going to wear something like this again, I’d prefer to find it in a vintage store. It’s snobby to think the real deal makes a difference, but there’s something phony about basically mass-producing these shirts with logos and making people think they’re unique because they can choose which American Apparelesque garment they put a sticker on. I just don’t think the price is worth it, especially if it’s just a gag gift. They also have some 80s and 90s sunglasses.

Bang On is a novelty t-shirt/hat/accessory store in the Byward Market. Need a t-shirt with something cool and ironic on it? Then Bang On! Here’s how it works: choose a t shirt(plain, different coloured sleeves) and then consult the catalogues for the ironic message/picture you want transfered onto the shirt. The shirts are pricy — $ 20 — and then it is another $ 10 for the transfer. But, it is the market, so I imagine the retail space isn’t that cheap. You can also get messages applied to trucker hats($ 23) or pick up a studded leather belt(in a multitude of colours) for around $ 30. The staff is appropriately hip and angst-ridden, but helpful. If you are looking for a cool T(or an Obama campaign button) then bang on to Bang On!

Although Bang-On is listed as an Arts & Crafts store, that isn’t what I know it as. Bang-On is one of those small shops in the market you’re not sure what to make of. There is usually some random stuff in the windows, generally blocking the full view of inside. Go inside, you’ll be impressed. It isn’t a huge shop, but there are a lot of things crammed into it. A lot of retro T-shirts and the like adourn the walls, along with Sunglasses, jewelery and similar goods. The colours are mixed between dark and extremely vibrant. If you’re looking for something a bit different, this is a place to try. And, before I forget, they have footwear too, much of which comes in the colours I spoke of earlier. This is a place where you will go in not looking for anything in particular and come out with something special.
