My favourite feature of the Acadian House is the décor. They use rough materials and antiques for tables and decoration. You wouldn’t normally think these things would work, but they come together to create an original décor. However, being half Acadian and from the Maritimes myself, I don’t think this place delivers on the culture it claims to represent. The food on the menu is correct(e.g., garlic fingers, pot pies) but the delivery and taste is way off. They don’t even have real donair sauce! I understand that they’d want to keep the food tasting similar to what other restaurants offer in Ottawa, but it’s still not authentic, so it may not be a taste of home for all the Maritimers who have moved here for work or school. However, the service was fantastic, the poutine was delicious and the beer was cheap. I’d still recommend checking this place out, especially if you’re near the University of Ottawa.
