Once upon a time at the southeast corner of Dundas St. W. and Trafalgar Road stood the original Trafalgar Memorial. It was a disheveled building… and I’m not 100% sure one could even enter it… that housed bronzed plaques with the names of those from the Oakville area that had lost their lives in WWI and WWII. The southeast corner was eventually bulldozed and Longo’s popped up. Now the Memorial stands here, an outdoor area across the street from Walmart and the Superstore. The plaques are there, along with well manicured plants, flowers and grass. Occasionally a wreath or two will pop up. I’d bet not many people know they pass this everyday, nor the reason why it’s there.
