One word … Amazing !!! I have been to this place 2 times and both the time my experience was beautiful. This place is a bit far from city but if you want to try Russian cuisine then this is one of the places I would recommend anyone. The place isnt so busy but it has pure Russian ambience. Russian music or Russian music is always been played there. The furniture and the setting takes you back to old school style. Regarding food, it was delicious both the time. Fresh, hot(in temp.) and fast service. Loved it. The portions were also quite big and fills you up nicely. Overall I cant wait to go to this place again. If you want to try or like Russian cuisine with a quite place to dine then this is the place for you. A bit far but worth the money.

I was here at the invite of a good friend’s birthday party. He said that this was one of the best Russian restaurants in the city and I was very excited to try! So, on a Friday night, my bf and I ventured to the restaurant, which was located in a pretty unassuming plaza. It can be easily missed. As we walked in there was a paper sign posted on the door citing Dress Code in Effect. Since we were here celebrating my friend’s birthday, we were already dressed up, but I wondered if you just wanted to pop in for a dinner, would you be allowed in jeans or a t-shirt? Anywhoo, the restaurant was empty, except for one table and this on a Friday night! We had a room for ourselves, and I loved how the restaurant was decorated — in the style of old Soviet Union. The walls were lined with old Russian newspaper to depict what homes would have been like back in the day. Appetizers included salmon, caviar with pancakes, potatoes, salad, radishes and cream cheese and of course lots of wine, vodka, and champagne. For the main, I ordered something traditional, the Chicken Kiev which was a chicken that had a fried skin, but inside, the meat was tender and juicy. In fact, when I first cut into the skin, hot juice spurted out! My bf had the lamb which were big pieces of meat(kind of like a stew). All in all, the food was very good. This is my first taste of authentic Russian food and I really liked it. I don’t think I would come here regularly, but I am glad I tried it out. Service was very prompt. The menu is very extensive and so are the drinks. Prices seemed reasonable. If you are looking for one of the best Russian restaurants in the city, then Retro Room is your best bet. After all, my Russian friend is picky about his food so that has to say a lot about this place!
