They went back to their usual style of pizza(no thin crust) and the only guy I trust to make it is a nice asian guy with black glasses and a black hat! He lets the crust rise and makes it nice and fluffy with a good amount of sauce. The only thing missing is making their warmer plate one slice to-go pizzas a lot hotter so that bacteria does not collect. Sometimes they leave the pizza slices on there too long and its hard and chewy crust. Sadly though as many fast food joints do… MSG is added to the food. PS: do not attempt to go during dinner time on Friday unless you pre-ordered pizza!!! It is crazy busy and they gave me a pizza made to order with a still frozen soggy crust… disgusting.

I’ve never had Papa John’s pizza before, but I’ve tried the rest of the pizza chains(Panago, PIzza Hut, Domino’s, Fresh Slice, etc. You name it). Domino’s has always been my favorite, and pepperoni and mushroom’s has always been my go-to toppings for pizza’s. I was watching a video on Youtube the other day, and a food reviewer, by the name of Ken, insisted that I must try Papa John’s Pizza. He kept going on and on about how awesome it is and it’s the real deal, so when I was in Lynn Valley this evening. I decided to stop by Papa John’s and ordered myself a medium 2-topping Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza for $ 7.20 tax included($ 11.00 for large), and immediately said to myself, «DAMN! that’s cheaper than Little Caesar’s and Domino’s». I sat on one of the tools and patiently waited 15 minutes, as I was impatiently waiting for the pizza to pop out of the oven. When the pizza came out hot n’ ready(no pun intended), I immediately took it to my car and took my first bite EVER of this beautiful pie, I couldn’t believe how good this it tasted. No, it wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever tasted, but damn, it was definitely the best pizza chain pizza I’ve ever had. The pizza crust and pizza sauce were just out of this world. The dough was light and bouncy when you pinch the dough. The pizza sauce was sweeter than most pizza sauces(which I loved). The pepperoni on the pizza was VERY tasty, fragrant and oily. Mushrooms were pretty standard. All in all, it was one hell of a pizza. I’ll definitely go again in the coming weeks. Now if only there were more Papa John’s pizzas in Vancouver then I wouldn’t need to go to Domino’s.

What a disaster. Online order placed as usual, expected pizza to be ready in 15 – 25 minutes as per email confirmation. As it was a Friday night I expected Papa Johns to be busy, so I gave it the full 25 before heading to pick up. Paid for my order when I arrived and was told order wasn’t ready yet. Ten minutes go by, then 15 and someone realizes my order was given to someone else by mistake so they will have to remake it. So I sit and wait. Now if I didn’t have kids waiting for pizza I would have asked for a refund and that would have been it. So order is finally ready an hour after it was placed. «Sorry for the wait» is all I get from one of the kids at the till. Manager doesn’t seem to care. She was being reamed out by a lady who cancelled her order because she saw the cook wearing a tank top(probably to impress the 16 year old girls running cash). Manager had the audacity to say that«he wasn’t their regular cook and preferred to work that way»! Bet Vancouver Coastal Health would be impressed. Won’t be back anytime soon. Too bad because it was a convenient place.

We ordered two medium pizzas(one beef and mushroom and one bacon, Italian salami, and pepperoni), 10 hot wings, bread sticks, and a Cinnapie, which is their dessert pizza. We also ordered dipping sauces: one ranch, one pizza(marinara sauce), and BBQ. We were advised that our delivery would take about 40 minutes, which turned about to be a fairly accurate estimate. We were charged $ 2 for delivery. I’m not sure if this was a standard charge or if it was due to how far we were from their location(about 4 km). Unfortunately, we didn’t notice that we didn’t get our ranch dip until after the delivery guy had left. We got garlic dip instead; it was a melted butter flavour dip with garlic. We didn’t bother calling Papa John’s back as we would have been almost finished eating by the time they came back. Food was OK. The pizza and breadsticks were pretty standard. One of Papa John’s selling points is that they use better ingredients and that their pizza dough is fresh and has never been frozen. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference. The wings were a little on the fatty side and were more sweet BBQ flavoured than hot. I did think the Cinnapie was yummy but it didn’t knock my socks off. The verdict: Papa John’s is a decent place to order pizza but I wouldn’t necessarily choose them over any other pizza place unless they have a special promotion. When having your order delivered, be aware that delivery is not free and always double check your order before the delivery person leaves.
