Don’t know where these good reviews are coming from. Granted it’s mall food so I don’t expect much but this was disgusting. Had butter chicken, rice and naan bread. Portion was small, chicken was chewy and didn’t taste like butter chicken at all. The rice had swollen up from sitting and they pulled the naan out of the back room. I don’t know when it was made but it was old and rubbery. I had a few bites and took it back. At least he was kind enough to give me my money back.

The food had that home-cooking taste. I enjoyed the butter paneer, gobi aloo, and the different bean dishes they had. The food is tasty but not spicy. They have a flavourful hot sauce and a little goes a long way. The only problem is that the mall closes early nearly every day so it’s usually too late for me to stop by there on the way home except on Thursdays and Fridays.

If you should find yourself in the Royal City Mall for whatever reason, Amar’s is the place to eat. No wait, the reverse is true — Amar’s is one reason to go into the mall in the first place. And it’s addictive, like this: Choose a combo. Choose a curry.* Choose rice or naan.** Choose fountain pop, samosas on the side and hot sauce. Choose paying less than $ 10 bucks for a whole lot of food. Choose sitting in that food court, stuffing your face, seeing the envy from those unfortunate folks who chose A&W or Fresh Slice. Choose extra napkins. Choose a bellyful of satisfaction. Choose spice. Choose Amar’s! Note: do not run maniacally laughing down 6th Street afterward. That would be bad. * Butter chicken, of course, but the aloo gobi is a solid vegetarian choice. It’s all fresh. You can’t go wrong. **I recommend the naan bread!

Fresh consistent food — the butter chicken is very good and always available, every day there are a few different curry choices — none that are too spicy but well seasoned. They have home made pickle and hot sauce for the more adventurous — the butter chicken wrap is so yummy, especially if you get it with vegetables(aloo gobi is a nice addition). They always have a vegetarian option or three — I really like the zucchini. The chicken or vegetable samosas are good and the sauce is very tasty!!! I recommend Amar’s over a lot of Indian restaurants I have been to. The couple that run it are always very friendly and nice, there would be a line up out the door if they were located in Downtown Vancouver — definitely somewhere to stop in for and there is free parking in the mall. They offer a bunch of breakfast options — vegetarian and with chicken… The butter chicken wrap with veggies is under $ 7 and huge! They are open the hours the royal city mall are — so very convenient, but if you come closer to closing time, there will be a limited selection as everything is prepared fresh every day.

Really want to try this place to make sure they’re open but all I get is an answering machine — at 5pm on a Friday night?! 3 phone calls in past 15min.

Wow! What a gem. This could be the only kiosk in the food court and no one would care. Great selection, great meals, and great deals. I was impressed with this place. The curry hot sauce was perfect. I’ll be back.

OMG I LOVE Indian food! I have been waiting patiently(or not so patiently) for a mall style Indian place in New West for awhile. Why you may ask? Well I don’t always want to sit in and like smaller portions than some of the restaurants have to offer, so wasn’t I thrilled when I found out Arby’s was replaced by Amar’s. I have only been there twice but both times the service has been awesome! The food just as good. Ohhh the fresh, hot Naan just put it over the top for me. For a «fast food» Indian joint, this is the s***. UPDATE: I used Amar’s as the caterer for my wedding. It was amazing! I would definitely recommend them for large groups! Everyone at my wedding loved the food and went back for more.
