The Mahogany Dining Room

My date and I booked a couples getaway in a junior suite for Valentine’s Day. We had dinner in the Mahogany Room which was very upscale. The food was incredible, the menu diverse but the service was a little slow. We had to flag down the waitress three times to refill our beverages.
Try the Prime Rib if you get the opportunity. Do not bring your kids here for the menu seems to be very selective to adults only.
Overall the good experiences at the Nottawasaga Resort we’re in balance with the bad experiences leaving me with a «meh» attitude about the entire place. Nice resort. Bad food service.

My wife & I had brunch on Mother’s Day this past Sunday & we were very disappointed with our meal. We have been going there for the past 10 years as we have always enjoyed the selections offered, but this time we felt a lot was missing.
The clams on the salad bar were the smallest I have ever seen & there were no shrimp like previous years. The eggs Benedict & pancakes were cold. My wife tried the roast beef and it was very chewy & stringy, the small piece of outside cut was inedible.
10 years ago, Mothers Day brunch was $ 21.95, this past Sunday it was $ 32.95. We have decided that it’s not worth it.
Our waitress was very attentive to start but seemed to ignore as later. We had to stop another waitress to get a refill on our coffees.

I was SO looking forward to this restaurant and a nice dinner with my husband, unfortunately this was not the case whch was really dissapointing. I though maybe it was just me, but our other friends/​family felt the same way too.
FIRST IMPRESSION– The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, like a hidden gem– yet, I couldn’t understand why there were only a few tables filled on a Friday evening at 8:00pm. This place should be packed… I should have heeded that as our warning sign. Upon entrance, we couldn’t see anyone availabe. 5 minutes later a lady came and seated us. She offered a booth and we agreed not knowing how awkward it would be. She table settings were side by side not across from each other and we were facing the other side of the room wall– weird. She also had to pull out the table to let us in and then kinda lock us is with the table as apparently people trip on the table linens getting in and out of the booth tables.
SERVICE– She was a very nice mature women, but a terrible server. She did not provide us with any of the days/​week specials, in fact, we only knew their were specials because we heard the other waitress mention them to her table. Our waitress was few and far between in table visits. It took 10min just to ask a waitress where the washroom was and it wasnt even our server. The entrée was brought to the table on a trolley with a fancy cover… the problem was when the dish was revealed you could see that the gravy and food had been sitting for too long and was slightly dried over. Was this a joke? I still cant believe we paid for our meals… ridiculous.
FOOD– They started us off with bread and butter. Bread came nice and hot, but still tasted like it had been freezer burnt or something as it was chewy anf butter was too frozen to spread on the bun. We started with Scallops and they were excellent, very well put together and the tastes and complexities to the dish were prepared well! Check! Next, I was looking forward to an overpriced Cesear Salad that had all the fine fixings (fresh parm, foccasia crutons, crisp pancetta, etc) or at least thats what the menu said). Well the salad came (finally) it was dissapointing. Cold, week old, kept in the fridge chewy pre-​cooked pancetta, dollar store crutons… need I say much more? his was the most basic of Cesear salads ever– East Side Mario’s has a WAY better cesear salad and it’s unlimited. I just had this exact salad a week prior at a restaurant downtown and there was no comparison. My husband had the Veal with a Butternut Squash Risotto and side veggies. His Risotto was SO bad I couldn’t believe it. It tasted like undercooked Rice-​a-​Roni (if you can remember that pre-​packaged stuff from back in the day. You could taste they used a powder chicken broth instead of a soup broth for the Risotto and there was NO butternut squash what-​so-​ever, not even flavouring. We advised our waitress on the Risotto and she brought some fingerling potatoes instead. He asked for medium-​rare veal and got pretty well done peice of veal with a peice of veal cut off of it in a 90 degree angled-​really? Did the cook get hungry and decide he wanted a ¼ of the veal? Needless to say… by this point we skipped dessert and coffee. No way, my tummy felt beaten up enough! They should request GORDON RAMSEY’S «KITCHEN NIGHTMARES» help for a FOOD and SERVICE OVERHAUL!!!
Problem is the restaurant is in the Nottawasaga Inn and all the restaurants in that Inn seem to hold the same low standards. Frozen & Over Processed & Lack of Service. Our breakfast takeout and snack of Mozz sticks-​sat in were cold– not a surprise. Sad tho for such a Beautiful Hotel on a Beautiful Property.

The food is always great here and the service is top notch. The Mahogany Room has a great view of the golf course

Hotel food? Stodgy? Dodgy? Not in the least. Smitten by charming service while seated in comfy chairs, mid-​way through our meal I wanted to send a note to the chef asking, «Could you please be my kitchen slave forever?» Classic dishes prepared for our happy party of four — beef tenderloin, chateaubriand for two and lamb shank were accompanied by exquisite sauces and carefully prepared farm fresh vegetables. Even the rolls and butter were divine. With a view overlooking the Nottawasaga golf course I had a vision of my senior years residing in the on-​site adult living community of Green Briars and eating in the Mahogany Room every night for dinner. Reservations are required and hours are limited. As for me, I better start paying more attention to my retirement savings plan.
