Quite good, I had never tried them before Prices are fair and the food is quite good. Much better than the Broadway type Grill

I’m a big fan of local craft brew and seek it out when I travel. Found this restaurant listed on the website of a local brewery. Sadly, they only had one of this brewery’s beer on tap. Sat at the bar, and it took a while before the bartender asked if I wanted a drink. Same longish wait after I had closed the menu, looking to order food. Similar long wait after ordering… a burger. Food was good, not stellar. Might have given a four star if it hadn’t been for the wait(s).

My friend and I went to Hard Stones for dinner last Friday. I like the Embrun location and was excited to try this one. It was such a laughably awful experience that I don’t even know where to begin, but here goes. We were sat and brought water promptly. Took a while to have our drink orders taken, but not too bad. When our drinks came, my friend’s coke was obviously messed up. You know when the syrup ratio is off and it looks like amber-colored water? I could see it a mile away. Quality check please. But anyway, that was replaced with no issue. Then we ordered our food. Club sandwich and caesar wrap. It took like half an hour to bring it out. I don’t understand why, the restaurant wasn’t that busy. Anyway, the food finally came out. The entire time I’m eating my club sandwich thinking«god, it’s bitter!» I assumed it was some char on the chicken — which was overcooked and dry, by the way. But no — I noticed that the toast was very burnt on one side, which they had conveniently hidden on the inside of the sandwich. Sneaky. You’d think in the half hour it took to make it, they could have made new toast. My friend had the poutine on the side which I tasted. Points for real cheese curds. No points for powdered gravy mix. Tasted like high school cafeteria. All through this time our waiter keeps messing up the tables and bringing stuff to our table and going«oops, wrong table!» He was pleasant but it was annoying after the first time. He doesn’t actually check on us to make sure the food is ok or see if we want a drink refill. We finish. We wait. We’ve been there for like an hour for a quick sandwich dinner and we wanna leave. Our waiter is around but never looks at us. Finally we get annoyed and as another waitress walks by, my friend politely says«excuse me miss» to get her attention to ask for the bill. It works, she looked back at us, then quickly broke eye contact, turned her head away and kept right on walking away. She wasn’t rushing, holding anything or on her way to see customers. She just could not be bothered. We finally hook a different waitress who eventually sends our waiter over — not with our bill, but to ask us what we want(duh). We say the bill, and off he goes for another like 5 minutes. Not sure what he was doing, seemed to just be aimlessly walking around between the bar and the tables. Eventually we did get the bill and left and that is the first and last time I will ever walk out those doors.

Very overdue review here — I actually went back in September with my mother who was visiting. I’ll start by saying this — wonderful atmosphere. It’s a very classy looking place, sort of comparable to Moxie’s. You can feel at home either in blue jeans or in a suit/tie. Our server, Chris, was phenomenal. He was able to share his personal opinions on the food, and made some good recommendations for both of us. My mother couldn’t choose between the Broccoli Cheddar soup or the Caesar, but ended up taking the salad. A few moments later, Chris showed up with a small bowl of the soup for her too, on the house of course. As for the food, we both enjoyed our meals, and while the price for the portions may have been slightly higher than I’d normally like to pay, the service is what pushed this place over the edge for me. It was pretty dead in there that night though, so I’m going to go back on a busy night and see how much different the experience is. Regardless, decent food and a nice place to sit and chat, with friendly staff. Glad to see Kelsey’s was replaced with something else I enjoy.

After a long afternoon walking around this place hit the spot. Nothing fancy here but solid family restaurant. The beer selection was a bit thin with Beaus Lugtread and Grindstone Amber being the only craft choices. Kids all enjoyed their meals and loved rooting through the treasure chest at the end. If we’re in the area we would definitely stop back.

The service was great, very personable and attentive. The food was good, well priced and prepared quickly. I really liked the interior décor and the mood! It seemed almost family run. The only complaint I had was the chicken was slightly over cooked in the quesadilla I ordered. I will definitely be returning for another meal and would recommend Hard Stone to my friends and family!

I’ve only been for their breakfast so far. Great breakfasts at a decent price. Portions are a the right size and not too big. Home fries are pretty run of the mill, and breakfasts don’t come with fruit; but they make bake their own break in house which is a plus. The eggs Benedict were decent but they over poached the eggs this time. Usually they do a decent job and get the eggs how you want them, but i find most places usually have trouble getting poached right.
