Méchant Café

Charmant petit café situé tout près de la station de métro Côte-​des-​Neiges et à dix minutes à pieds de l’Université de Montréal. On va au Méchant Café pour se concentrer sur ses études ou encore pour un travail d’équipe.
La clientèle est majoritairement étudiante, mais on peut toujours y aller pour un rendez-​vous d’affaires ou même avec la petite famille (accès aux fauteuils roulants et poussettes).
L’ambiance est calme, la musique jamais trop forte, et le café est délicieux. Petit endroit fort sympathique, découvert grâce au magique Indie Coffee Passeport

Allez, une étoile en plus pour un meilleur café et un employé/​proprio? trop gentil. Déjà mieux que la dernière fois!

By far the best coffee in Côte-​des-​Neiges. Love to go there to study or read my book, grabbing a seat is never hard and they have an intimate terrasse in the summer!

grumpy coffee shop by the north exit of cote-​des-​neiges metro station. grumpy? because of the bean roaster, grumpy coffee.
is it a méchant de bon café like their name suggests? hard to say because they are the only one who offers grumpy coffee in town but it’s definitely good coffee that i enjoyed greatly. slight bitterness at first that almost disappeared as i kept on drinking. instead of a thick cloud of love, you get some beautiful latte art (no matter if you get a latte or cappuccino)
the place is interesting once you set foot in. from the outside, it doesn’t look like much and people seem to sit in the back only making it feel empty. high tables and plenty of wood make up the décor. there’s a terrace during summer. bathrooms are in the basement. the creepy basement.
as for baked goods, they are from sweet lee’s and they have donuts from saint donuts, tuesday and wednesday if i remember right. no need to vouch of how good they are.
price is mid-​range (tax included) in the 3^rd wave pricing scale.

Unlike most businesses out there, I find it difficult to rate Méchant Café. On one hand the atmosphere at the coffee shop is interesting, calm and intimate. The staff is welcoming, pleasant and efficient, the prices are fair and the location is ideal, right by the Côte-​des-​Neiges metro station. On the other hand, the coffee itself is a disappointment. The Americano and the Latte my husband and I ordered were both easy to swallow yet very average in taste. While it wasn’t a disaster, there are many other locations in the city which produce much better coffee. And thus I find myself honestly challenged when giving stars to a Café whose coffee I would not particularly recommend, yet whose venue is pleasant enough. I guess I will have to settle for three and hope that the food items on their menu make the visit worthwhile for current and future visitors!

Deuxième fois que je viens dans ce café. J’adore cette ambiance! Le bois est omniprésent. L’aménagement est plutot éclectique, il s’y côtoie des tables hautes, une longue table commune, un banc, des chaises de café et un vieux fauteuil! Les détails qui me plaisent ici: la formule chimique de la caféine sur le mur et l’étagère faites avec des tuyaux!
Le personnel est charmant et le café délicieux! La dernière fois que j’y suis allée, j’avais pris une beigne ananas bourbon qui né fut pas à mon goût. Je né surement pas une grande fan de beigne…
Le petit point négatif du café c’est qu’on né le remarque pas dans la rue. On pourrait passer à côté sans le remarquer! Né vous laissez donc pas berner par la devanture et entrez-​y! Vous né serrez pas déçu :D

I love this place! It’s singular focus on incredible coffee and tea (only place in Montréal that serves their unique coffee roast, all fair trade), fresh and sinfully delicious treats, and amazingly knowledgeable and chill baristas has made it my go to coffee shop. Try it out. You won’t be disappointed.
