THE hidden gem of rosepatrie and little italy. they don’t look like much from the outside, you’ll probably think like most that this is just your no frill convenience store but no, you’re being fooled! if you dare go in, you can find the lovely deli counter and cooks whipping out some decently good food. it wasn’t a regular spot for me as a kid as i was a pizza child but growing up and branching out, i discovered this awesome place that would stare at you when you go to the west and even though i forget about the place for months only to remember and forget again(damn alzheimer), i always somehow go back and always fall in love all over again. lalime is to rosepatrie what wilensky is to mile-end and its more than just bologna. you have all kind of sandwiches, soups and pies as well as the convenience store part of the place. some of the food can be a miss mainly on the dry part like if you do white meat, it can sometimes be dry but then, its the kind of stuff your parents most likely fed you as a kid, dry meat. with everything popping out left and right in the neighborhood like cute baby rabbits, the original gangster of rosepatrie is still standing and i loved them for that

Funky dressed up little depanneur that caught the corner of my eye when I was wandering around one of my favourite new streets Beaubien E. One the inside is a mishmash of half dep and half NY style Deli. They have a fantastic selection of toutieres sandwiches and other fantastic lunch/snack or dinner(or lazy person) quality meals. Their tourtières looked so divine. I must return for one. My purchase here was for a four pack of Beau’s all natural beer. I asked the store clerk of he like Beau’s and he gave a funny face like someone eating a raw lemon. He said«it doesn’t really taste like anything man»! I disagree! However that is why there is beer for all kinds. Some people like(or love) Molson Export. I would not even sip an Export it if I was walking through the desert and this was the only source of refreshment. I’d rather die a slow and painful death than drink a Molson Export. For this man selling my Beau’s he didn’t appear to be amused about my purchase. Pure comedy. If all Deps transformed into funky Deli Deps selling beer and other goods we would be habitants of a Utopian kind of heaven!

This place has been here since 1959, is currently run by the daughter of the original owner, and her Mum makes all the tourtierres. I grabbed the beef and pork tourtierre last night, it cost $ 6 and fed us both for dinner. Oh, and it was delicious. Perfect buttery brown crust, almost croissant-like, and incredibly savoury mouthwatering filling. The front window of this little dep used to be crowded with signs, but they’ve removed the clutter and seem to really be focusing more on the amazing homemade eats, while still meeting the convenience store needs of the area. They also do local bike delivery — not just of food but you can get them to bring you dep items as well — even wine delivery to the local BYO restaurants!
