Eastern Bloc is an arts organization focused on new media and interdisciplinary art. They configure their raw, white, lofty space near Jean Talon to suit the different events that they host or curate. It’s also become a homebase for festivals like Art Matters. They support emerging artists and can be flexible with events they are excited about. Definitely a nice group of people trying to support exciting new work.

I’m definitely a fan of this venue. I came here to see Dan Deacon, and the show was pretty awesome. *o* The venue is a typical industrial loft space. Really big, can fit a decent amount of people without feeling claustrophobic. The bar that was set up was basic, but did the job. There were some couches set up in the back for the kids that didn’t feel like dancing the whole night through, much appreciated. I definitely noticed how well this place seems to run. I’ve been to other loft spaces that are a complete mess. But, Eastern Bloc was fun and easy. The kids running the door got people in quickly and in a pretty organized fashion, and the bar seemed to run smoothly with no fuss. Awesome! I’ll absolutely go back some time, maybe check out one of their cool art exhibitions.
