Mrs. Zen Glasser,
We would like to express our big concern and dissatisfaction with the last week experience we had right after moving into our rental apartment at your Summerhill Rental Property located at 6311 Somerled Ave., NDG.
Right in the morning as we moved in, both elevators in the building were not functioning. As we were informed of that issue 30 minutes before we were moving in, we had to delay the movers' truck arrival loaded with our belongings, for one hour until at least one of the building elevators became operational again. This hour of moving delay caused us monetary loss of 170$ plus tax that we had to pay for that extra hour delay to the moving company.
After we finished our move, the same day, both elevators in the building stopped working again, and were not working for the next three consecutive (!) days. Hundreds of the building tenants, including families with small children (like we are) and elders, had to climb 16-story building using unventilated stairs several times a day. After speaking to the administration, we tried to contact your Management office, and for several days we got the same answer that you will contact us back shortly and that you are on vacation. However, you never called us back regarding our complaint received by your Office Secretary.
Last week we spoke with several tenants of the building, who said such broken elevators incidents have been quite frequent in the last year and were never addressed in a timely manner by the building Management.
This week again (!) only one elevator is working, the other one is completely switched off, still “waiting for the replacement motherboard”. With just one elevator functional in the building with 160+ occupied apartments, it takes forever to wait until a single elevator comes, especially in the mornings and evenings, when most people leave for and come from work… With our 6-years old daughter we had to climb the stairs in the heat, all the way to the 12th floor after a 30-minute wait for the elevator!
Such behavior and lack of proper building management we have experienced does not comply with Canadian Federal and Provincial business standards, as well as regulations set by Regie du Batiment de Quebec. When we signed a lease contract with you, we were insured that the building is well maintained and is in a good living condition. The last two-weeks week incident clearly showed this is currently not the case, and your rental premises are not in a well-maintained condition. Then why should we pay for your service which is not fulfilled properly?
