Café Saint-Henri’s newest location in Jean-Talon market is very well located and as tasty as always! Flawless, their espresso and latte are among the best in the city and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The new coffee shop interior design is very beautiful, sporting a trendy minimalist look featuring attractive displays on the left side of the room and a seating area on the right. You might wonder, if the location, coffee, service and interior design are so amazing, why do I not grant five stars to Café Saint-Henri? Well, I have a beef with the tables and seats. It would seem that in their quest for a minimalist and cute décor, table size was sacrificed and all we are left with are teeny tiny little round tables, close to one another, and that can barely fit more than one coffee and pastry. The delicate flowers carefully placed on each table are doubtlessly pretty, but they also take some of that precious space. Each tiny table is matched with a small metal stool. And thus, with my husband sitting in front of me on the wooden bench against the wall, there was nowhere left to put our coats, scarf, gloves and purse but on our knees or crammed against us as to not infringe on other visitors’ space. I know, it seems insignificant told like that, but the tininess of the seating space and the lack of a place to put my coat, forcing me to wear my winter attire the whole time, made me feel very uncomfortable. And thus, four stars it must be, until the baby tables are replaced by adult-sized ones, until the stools are replaced with chairs with a back-rest, or until hooks are installed for those of us who enjoy coffee most without a heavy parka on.

Boldest, most delicious and notably the most beautiful cappuccino I’ve ever had — and I’ve sipped on few. The perfect pick me up to start your exploration of the Marché Jean-Talon or the perfect conclusion. The Cappuccino costs about $ 4 which I’d happily pay again for the same result. Exudes cool, minimalism design was well though out. I walked out of there with more knowledge about coffee then I did walking in as they took the time to add some fun and interesting details about the process and even about the adventures of the company. This coffee place was more of an experience than just coffee for me. I’ll be stopping by again next time I’m in town.

New clever minimal design concept yuppie coffee house on the edge of MJT. I ordered a cappuccino and it was divinely creamy at the start but a very light roast. At $ 4 I’d declare it on the higher price end of the spectrum for a coffee that will be interesting to see if people will support. If you walk under 10 minutes you can get one for $ 2.50 on Dante @ San Simeon. I prefer a darker stronger roast but what the hell do I know about coffee my name isn’t fellow Unilocaler Khai our local Unilocal Java aficionado– expert. Pay more attention to his review than mine as he speaks the gospel. You can tell from the design of this place that they did their homework and invested thought, time and money to create a higher quality experience from a local roaster. Perusing the shop I did notice some Chemex(Boston based company) and Aeropress units to make coffee at home(recently I bought an Aeropress(in Alberta) and its freaking amazing for $ 35 – 39 depending on where you buy it. 10x better than a French press folks. Buy one if you think a French press is the kitty’s scratch post! I’ll come by and give this funkster-hipster place another chance. If you like Independant shops it’s a much better option than Timmy Ho-Ho’s or that green mermaid from Seattle. Check it out.

A friend suggested we meet here for coffee, as she is a local I was more than happy to trust her. This café is directly across from/part of the markets. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was bustling with people. We ordered our coffees and looked for somewhere to sit. However there aren’t that many places inside just small tables and a long bench, we were a group of 3 so it didn’t really suit. We had our coffee in hand within a few minutes, and as there were no seats available outside, did what many others were doing, sat on the kerb and drank our coffee, chatted and people watched: the coffee was lovely and creamy. Definitely would go back, they also had kombucha in bottles and a large area for coffee beans etc.(which is why there are no tables inside as its all taken up by product)

Admittedly, I only visited Café Saint-Henri once but my first experience wasn’t a positive one. Taste preferences can vary greatly from person to person but I am one who likes their lattes to have a stronger coffee taste(i.e., I don’t want it to just taste like steamed milk). The latte I had here was a bit too weak.(As a comparison, I also find Starbuck’s to have weak lattes as well). In addition, they only offer one size for the drinks and they are on the small size(with probably a medium sized price). Speaking of price, if you want to buy, it was cash only when I was there and since I didn’t see any credit card/debit machines, this may be the norm. It’s quite a popular location though and was very busy when I was there(of course, everything around Marche Jean Talon gets a lot of foot traffic). They have some tables outdoors so you can sit and watch as everyone shops around the market. If you are in the area and want to try someplace else, there is at least one coffee shop inside Marche Jean Talon which I had tried earlier that day and I think that would be my choice over Saint Henri.

saint-henri newest store that opened about a week ago on the outskirt of marché jean-talon. the market was in need of a truly good indie coffee shop but no one expected saint-henri to set up shop here. anyway, the café is located in the old(defunct) la grange location in a nicer décor. its all clean and all marble. very spacious locale. the tables are quite small. truly made for sitting down, drink coffee and out you go. while it is possible to work, it is best done during the week as the market isn’t as busy but on weekend, its impossible. besides, one gotta be mindful of others and free up tables for incoming patrons. there’s some benches outside but it could use more seating area like turning one of the 2 counters into a table. as for coffee, its great coffee besides the very smack in your face godshot. that one is mainly used at the quartier latin location and its very very hard to drink. so far, i’ve only saw the godshot being offered as coffee of the day and you would have to ask for it. so rejoice, you’ll drink something less harsh. price wise, its actually cheaper by about a quarter to 2 quarters than at their quartier latin for example. as for opening hours, there’s nothing set in stone yet but when i asked, they said probably opening an hour before market opening time(to get the workers and merchants) and closing an hour after market closing time. all in all, i’m very happy that there’s finally a true indie coffee shop in marché jean-talon even though its saint-henri(and that i have soucoupe café nearby that offers saint-henri) but its going to give other cafés as well as the godawful starbucks a run for its money even though they cater to different crowd. the coffee game has been raise in the market ps. they offer baked goods from Guillaume. take that première moisson and pain doré!
