Loved this stall in the Jean-Talon market. Offering a mixture of Slavic and Eastern European goods, Balkani delivers in such a satisfying way. The mici here(a ground beef, veal, pork, lamb meat roll/kebab), was phenomenal. A friend of mine from Bucharest always talked about the street food in Romania, but I cannot say I’ve come across this crowd pleaser of a dish until now. The kebab/sausage was so juicy, spicy, smoked. Served atop some mildly crunchy and vinaigretty sauerkraut, then perched on a simple hard roll, it made me wonder why in the world we settle for simple processed hot dogs. Why… Ever! For less than $ 5, this sandwich was a great value and had amazing flavor. Don’t miss it! And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find a plane ticket to Romania.

This is a review for the Balkani in Jean Talon Market: the grilled sausage dog was great! My wife and I tried a spicy sausage that comes with a slaw topping, ketchup and mustard. This meat market is definitely a must try if you’re at Jean Talon Market.

Two words for you: Bacon Sausages. They don’t taste intensely of bacon but the flavour is smokey and subtle and delicious, especially on the BBQ. On the weekend Balkani sells hot little baskets of homemade sausage and saurkraut — super yummy treat, especially when it’s cold out. Inside there is a small meat counter with several flavours of homemade sausage and dried meat sticks, and an upper level with all kinds of Polish products including chocolate covered plums and a variety of perogies.
