I’m a bit of an electronics store guru, having visited maybe a hundred stores in half a dozen countries… My rating for Abra is: excellent for Canada, average on the international scene. I know: I am such a snob. Parts-wise, if you are looing for rows of capacitors and switches that you can actually pick up and touch, this is a terrific place. They have actually overtaken Addison as the better place to buy electronic components like caps, resistors, and board-level things like Raspberry Pi, Arduino and the like. I wouldn’t buy semiconductors there(hello, that’s what Digikey is for), but if you remember what electornics stores were like in the late last millenium, then you will have pretty good picture of what Abra looks like. they seem to have a lot of imported Asian components these days, but that is pretty par for the course. They have a good selection of soldering supplies and chemicals, whch are sometimes hard to find. Abra is great for the itmes that you need it now. If they have it online, you can just pop over to the store and pick it up.

I visited the retail store which is at 5465 Cote de Liesse. Geek heaven! Loads of Arduino and Raspberry Pi choices and accessories. Staff is very knowledgeable, I was looking for a motor controller which was out of stock. They helped me find a shield that is actually much better for my project. Good prices also, will definitely be back every time in Montréal!
