When it comes to kids birthday’s or Christmas, I usually find myself wincing at the idea of heading into a Toys R Us or Babies R Us. There is no other option for a huge selection of toys and baby items in the GTA. Walmart comes close but it’s rarely any better when it comes to store experience. In general, Toys R Us are not great. Their super deals of the week are a great value but their staff and store inventory is really subpar.
This one in particular is attached to a fairly big Babies R Us. If anything, this Babies R Us inventory is pretty good but the store practices are rotten (more about that later on). It’s laid out nicely with large aisles and decent selection. I’ve always found what I needed in quick order. Some of their prices can be nuts (a baby jumperoo for $ 150??). Unfortunately the service sucks. Each time I’ve been here, I’ve waited 10+ minutes to pay and this is not even a busy time of the holidays! Holiday season brings out the insanity and it’s normal to wait 25 minutes in line. Also, I have bought a really expensive jumperoo here (yes the $ 150 one) and to only find it was BROKEN by a previous owner, returned by them, and then repackaged by the store staff for sale again. I was APPALLED on that practice. I complained to the manager and she apologized saying it was Fischer Price’s fault. The funny thing was that the cashier admitted to me that their stock staff does that all the time after the manager left. Horrible!
As for the Toys R Us side, their staff is no better. They’re often very difficult to find and if you do find them, they look at your like a deer staring into a headlight. Their inventory on sale items are extremely limited. If you see a good deal in the flyer, you better run there stat or you’re out of luck. The wait time for Toys R Us cashiers is worse than Babies R Us. I suggest checking out at Babies R Us instead.
I would only suggest coming here when there are having great deals and when you have patience to survive the line ups. Mastermind Toys may not carry a wide selection like Toys R Us but they always have good service and inventory. Head there first before coming here!
