Ivan Optical

There are many optical stores at First Markham Place but Ivan is usually very packed ²⁴⁄₇. The store looks «big» but it’s actually quite hard to get through the crowd without saying excuse me. The chairs ain’t comfy either!
They carry lots of brands and there are quite a bit of selections. Service is just ok. If you’re the type of person who likes to be greeted once you walk in the door and ask if you need help then this is the store for you. I like to browse first and don’t like people following me.
Picking the right pair takes time. I noticed that the staff gives attitude when you tell them you’ll think about it. And especially if they notice you are not the wealthy type. You could be spending more than couple hundred on glasses so you want to pick the right pair!
On the other hand, Optical Trend (sister company) is better off since they are more friendly and are willing to spend the time and effort to find the perfect pair.

What can one say about a business that’s strives very hard to achieve the best customer service possible, special mentions goes to Phil. Sir you are a role model of great customer service.
If you’re looking for excellent eyewear at affordable prices and excellent brand names this is a must visit store.

It’s been 2 years since trying on Tag Heuer glasses here and I needed a new pair and once again was helped promptly. The same guy that helped my husband with all his sunglass purchases remembered me and the exact pair I tried on. Incredible! He helped me choose between 2 models and the lenses. The opticians have a lot of knowledge of all the frames they carry. There are support staff there that aren’t too helpful but will open up cases for you to try on sunglasses. In the end I made my decision and got a really good price that included the price of the lenses. If you need glasses, don’t go to the mall to find them in a big name store or you’ll get ripped off. Come here for their huge selection of major brands you only find in some stores.

Just because this place is always packed, it doesn’t mean they’re the best. I went in for a quote and they gave me a price that was over 40% higher than what the other stores gave me. The guy I spoke with wasn’t exactly the friendliest person either. He told me to go ask around and says his prices are on par with everyone else’s. He also didn’t explain to me what the costs associated with this fee was. All he said was, «We offer this price because we use thin lenses». Um… everyone else I talked to does as well. Definitely not recommending this place or returning to it. I read in another review that Optical Trend is Ivan’s sister store, so I won’t be going there either.

Over the past 2 years I have purchased 2 pairs of eye glasses and one pair of sunglasses and I have been extremely satisfied with the overall experience. I highly recommend to anyone to give it a shot.
Their service is excellent and despite being in your face the whole time they are very laid back and not pushy in any way. They also sign off on insurance forms and actually provide the forms for you [Manulife in my case] which is convenient.

Sunglasses weren’t officially in stock, but an employee who special ordered a pair for myself ended up selling them to me. Not only that, they were $ 100 cheaper than Sunglasses Hut and even cheaper than what I could find online!

We came down all the way from Ottawa and asked if they could have the glasses ready by the next day. They had them ready the next day !!

I was excited to check out this place as I had read great reviews about the customer service, which is key for me. However, the experience I had there wasn’t that great.
The guy that was helping me, I’m not sure what his name is, but he was probably in his 40s. He was not very warming nor that helpful (not once making a suggestion or exemplifying any form of the great customer service I had read about here on Unilocal).
One thing that I find annoying is that you have to have them standing right beside you for you to try on their products. I do not like that. I like to take my time and not feel the pressure of a representative right there. And when I did ask him for assistance, he was short with his answers and was more focused on his IPad then helping me.
I left and went to Sunglass Hut at Markville Mall and the customer service there was excellent. Giving suggestions, bringing out other glasses similar to the one I was looking at. Answering all of our questions in an informative way. Now THAT is customer service. Maybe I am so use to the customer service at the non-​Asian malls that I am shocked at the approach of the representatives at the stores in the Asian malls.
Ivan Optical — what a disappointment, what a waste of time.

I have not been this satisfied with customer service. As soon as you come into the store, someone will take care of you right away. They have vast choices of brands eye wear, with good prices. They had my kids glasses ready in 4 days. Don’t get fooled by the young people working here, they sure know what they’re doing :) This store is always busy, a good indication that this store has good stuff and good service. I also like the fact that they’re open 7 days a week until 8 pm.

Just amazing service from all staff I’ve met and made purchases here. They have been courteous, quick and have quite a knack to find the right glasses for the shape of my face and with which suits my personality.
From the time you walk in, you are greeted and invited to step into a chair up front. Sit right down and let the magic unfold. :)
I’ve referred my family and friends here and it’s quite unlike any other eyeglass buying experience I’ve ever had.
Personally I find it’s a challenge to decide on 1 pair from the 1000s of available styles. What I liked most about my purchase here is the service. I didn’t even need to get out of my chair once. Everything was brought to me. I just described something and pair of glasses that met my description was brought. Very convenient but also was impressed that they were really listening to my requests.

It helps that they have an available amount of updated selection of designer frames on hand with some real higher end stuff from Tom Ford, Cartier and Porsche Design.
The great updated selection, excellent professional service and fair prices makes purchasing glasses easier at Ivan’s. Funny observation, it’s only Ivan (the owner of the shop) who’s wearing glasses while all of his staff is not. :p

I went in last week to pick out frames — a friend has recommended how awesome this place is and now I totally agree.
Walking in, you are warmly greeted and Doris was nice enough to take me under her wing and bring some styles I wanted to look at.
I ended up in the ‘nerdy’ section because I wanted the plastic thick frames :)
They are not pushy in here and they sit with you the whole time with their one customer — which is what I absolutely love. I hate it when people are flip flopping between 2 – 3 customers just to get a sale.
Doris was very patient and so helpful — I can’t give this girl enough praise!
You have to give somewhat of a deposit and they are quick in making your glasses — roughly 2 – 3 days.
I am so happy with the quality of my frames and the warm atmosphere they came from.
I have to say chinese people always have the stylish things! I was really amazed with their unique selection and brand names. Not like boring lenscrafters.
Totally worth the trip up here to see Ivans!

Great service! As soon as I walked in Alex greeted and sat me down. Within minutes he brought a good selection of frames that fit me. Simple, light, nerdy looking… something that fits in the price range of my medical benefit. I have always had a tough time picking out glasses mainly because I don’t have a high nose bridge.
Since I had forgotten my eye prescription, I didn’t end up faxing it until mid-​week, which was the date that Alex said it would be ready for pickup. About 6 hours after submitting my prescription, I received a call telling me that my glasses were ready for pickup. YAY!
It gets busy on the weekends, but there are plenty of assistance. Alex has been my favourite rep thus far.
The selection of brands and designs are quite nice. Definitely one of my favourite places to shop for designer glasses. I should say, I go out of my way to get my glasses here, since I don’t drive.
