The reception was excellent. Two trainees(one of which, Jaclyn) were fantastic: printed, wrote, and personally explained directions around London, equipped me with complimentary items: bathing/comb/etc, and were super helpful. Room & Bathroom were both clean, the gym downstairs on 2nd floor had new(er) equipment(and a street over if Goodlife). Breakfast for a vegan was manageable: banana, apples, raisins, dry oatmeal, Cornflakes and AllBran(on the«Accidentally vegan» list on PETA). Stayed in 702, Sept @$ 109 a night, downtown Dundas(really close to Richmond which is London downtown proper a few streets up). Zen Garden next door(vegan food on the cheap) quiet at the end of the hall, street view, after 10 quiet policy. Was great :)

Life is too short to be in this janky place. It’s beaten down broken down and barely hanging on. Parking inadequate. Staff has no idea where anything is including the train station which is a five block walk that they googled and still couldn’t figure out where it is. Beds are in the broken down category but you do get lots of pillows which helps because there are limited blankets and no discernible difference between the a/c and the heater — the one temp is chilly. The rooms smell like smoke even though it’s supposedly smoke free. Breakfast is marginal but still like locusts are feeding — I guess because it’s free but there should be a line drawn somewhere. Location is decent which must be why it’s hanging on. Advice: don’t go here! There are better places and just a affordable.

I spent the last two nights at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites London Downtown, which was near my client’s office. It was within walking distance to downtown. There was a separate bedroom, which had no window. The bed was comfy and the bedroom was quiet. There was a mini fridge and microwave oven My rate averaged $ 160 a night and included parking. WIFI was free as was a continental breakfast. Here is the breakfast room. When I checked in on Monday night, I was surprised to discover that they only had a reservation for me for Monday and last night … I’m sure I had reserved it with a check-out for tomorrow morning. Holiday Inn doesn’t send a confirmation email so I can’t check to see who made the mistake(why ask me for my email address!!!). I was told that my room was reserved for someone else tonight and I’d have to pack up and move to another room today. Since my other client who I’m seeing tomorrow is at the other side of town, I made reservations at a hotel closer to that client instead. When I checked out this morning, the receptionist said that there was no need for me to move rooms. She didn’t know what I was talking about when I told her I was told I’d have to change rooms. It would have been nice to have been informed that I could have stayed in my room after all.

Very nice rooms here, with a decent view of London. The trick with this place was the pool. It’s not located on premises. Instead guests are provided with passes to use the pool at the«Y» across the street. Not really a big deal… myself and my boys(6&7 yrs) grabbed our gear and a couple towels and headed over there around 8pm since the hotel staff said the pool closed at 10pm. Once we got there however, we were turned away. The drone at the desk said that I(being an «adult») could swim, but the kids could not. Then she proceeded to pull out a sheet of paper and outline the hours(like 10 to 11AM, and then again from 2 to 3PM) that we could use their pool. Booooo! I thought better of ripping the paper up and slapping her, then took my crying and disappointed kids back to our hotel for popcorn and a movie(in-room DVD player worked great, bring your own discs). The HI-E staff was very cool about this little snafu though, which was reflected in our reduced bill.

The room was in immaculate condition. Everything in it appeared to be quite new. There was a fridge and microwave for our use unlike the usual bar fridges that can not be opened for fear of being charged something. We brought along some beer to enjoy in the room before going out. They were not twist offs and I had failed to bring an opener. One call to the desk and I was permitted to borrow a very nice President’s Choice wine/bottle opener provided I returned it when checking out. They also had complimentary toiletries to ask for above and beyond soap, shampoo/conditioner such as toothbrushes, paste, combs and razors. After being in the room for about 45 minutes the phone rang. It was the front desk asking if everything was OK with the room and did we need anything. Wow! That has never happened to me before. The complimentary continental breakfast was way more than just muffins, bagels and coffee/tea. Bacon and eggs(although the microwavable kind which take some getting used to). There was yogurt, cereal, several kinds of juices. There were many choices of coffee and tea too. A very pleasant surprise AND they kept it going past the scheduled end time to accommodate late risers! The price was mid-point yet the value was very high. I strongly recommend this to any traveler.
