My friend and I have seen this charming building every time we drove by Murrayville’s 5 corners and we finally had a chance to try it! The only interesting thing interesting in this place is the original shop itself. Everything else is disappointing. The menu was very basic. Little gluten, dairy free or vegeterian options in the menu. When I asked for something dairy free(anything), the girl rolled her eyes with impatience. Sorry, I’m allergic to milk and I’m vegeterian!!! I finally settled on earl grey tea with soy milk. No trays to carry our kettle, cup, soy… to the table. Nor did anyone offer to help! They had my friends order wrong. She just asked for no butter in her sandwich. When she spoke to the cook about it, she wasn’t too pleased and offered her no apology. So my friend asked for her money back. We sat there in awe of the rudeness of the staff and the lack luster products they were selling. The shelves were full of made in China gift items and cheap knick knacks. The displays were poorly done and the seating area wasnt comfortable at all. What should of been a charming and unique experience of a bistro felt like a cold and unwelcoming place. What happened to show casing local artisans and artists in the area? Paintings could have been displayed on walls. Felting, knitting… something hand made and unique to the area could have complimented the place so nicely. My friend and I quickly left(run!) and didn’t spend any more time than necessary there. While finishing my tea, we noticed a cupcake place right across the street. …Surprise! What an adorable place for tea called Tracycakes Bakery Café. We made a bee line for it and what a huge difference in experience! Friendly staff, beautiful décor, gluten free cupcakes and they even had vegeterian soup. The atmosphere was so much nicer!

I find the atmosphere is amazing but the quality of coffee and speciality drinks, AWFUL. 4⁄10 I’ve never been happy with my drink. Gross! I live down the street so it’s a real bummer.

We where a little disappointed we thought that since they had a heritage building status that they would focus a little more on their history besides the odd photo there was not much there except allot of tacky tea pots, cuckoo clocks and a bad attempt at selling crafts. The food was ok nothing fancy the bacon was over cooked and the eggs where under cooked but the coffee was hot. It would be nice to see this place focus more on their history and serve nice home cooked fresh local grown or raised food and if they want to sell stuff look towards local artists not tacky crafts and made in China tea pots.

I want to give Porters a better review because I love the old building and sitting in having coffee and breakfast every second week, but this historical business hocks cheap import products when they could be showcasing local products. The breakfast is below average, with bacon clearly pre-cooked and reheated to plate at what seems like days before at times. Langley is a farm community but I was told this owner refuses to source free range cruelty free eggs because Costco is cheaper. Would be nice if they put the eggs on the menu and add a fee per order. The toast is drenched soggy in butter every time. Baking is very good, but the cook doesn’t seem to care. How fantastic it would be to see home made preserves and natural products on the menu that better represent the community and get with the times. It would be a shame to see a quaint old café store disappear because they missed the boat. The other thing is when someone orders a cooked breakfast with no meat the price is the same. There should be a no meat option on the menu.

I have driven past Porter’s many times working for the Township of Langley and finally got a chance to stop in and see what this place was about. The building is an old heritage general store(110 years old) that belonged to the Porter family of Murrayville and they have turned it into a coffee shop. It’s a pleasant little shop that has a lot of the old 1900’s style artifacts still in it such as old soap boxes, metal tins, an antique cash register, and even the old furnishings from the old store(radio, post office signage, and parcel table. I chose the medium white chocolate mocha and a cheese scone which totaled $ 4.95 It surpassed Starbucks and the scone was freshly home baked which was a real treat. My fiancée had the same drink as I did but got the cranberry muffin, also fresh and tasty and added«you can taste that they made it here and not in a factory» They also have soups, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and a dinner entrée special every night that runs about $ 11.99 yesterday’s special was ham and pineapple scalloped potatoes. If you want a break from the coffee chains come to Porter’s, invite some friends, and being here just bring you back to a time where things were at a slower pace where people can enjoy a great cup of coffee in a cozy atmosphere.

Have you ever been to a wired monk? Well that’s pretty much what this place is, plus some home made soups and antiques. I was going in hoping, as the tea lover in me hopes, that there would be ample amounts of tea for sale as this place did also call themselves a tea house. There were maybe 6 or 7 types of teas, three of them were black(and all were very common teas). My Fiancée got an iced mocha something, and wasn’t very pleased with the end result. I had my tea served to me in a mug, but at least they switched it for a teacup when I asked. The Earl Grey cream tea was creamy of course, but that wasn’t anything new. But at least it was enjoyable. The décor of the building was interesting, for they were once a farm building and I think post office, among other things. They have antique items, such as a gorgeous cash register. The girls serving us, well I got the feeling they didn’t want to be there though they treated us decently. The tables were wood and bare, which gave the feeling of a cafeteria, or appropriately, a farm house meal. I didn’t have any baking(though they looked tasty) or had any homemade soup(though they smelled good) so my review is only based off the beverages. Perhaps those are the secret gems of Porter’s Coffee and Tea house as I wouldn’t say the coffee and tea were.

a quaint little hole wall, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, with a great selection of fair trade teas and coffee and homemade goodies. we stopped in on our way back from a mini wine tour and had a pot of creamy earl grey tea and delicious homemade vegetable soup. the staff is very friendly and atmosphere is old-timey, with antique this-an-that strewn around. it’s obvious the shop used to be a farmhouse back in the day. so if you’re in the area and need a refreshing pot of pick-me-up, you can’t go wrong here.
