Wow. I can’t believe no one has yet reviewed one of Kingsville’s greatest claims to fame: Jack Miner’s. It’s been here for about ever. Founded back in 1904 by the eponymous Jack Miner, it’s a place where migratory birds, many which have the unfortunate tasty gene, find haven before some of them end up on a dinner table. This isn’t a particularly large attraction. There’s Jack’s home, which you can tour the first floor. There’s a small museum of some of the artifacts and accolades bestowed upon this early conversationalist. The fun part is the feeding pen. Canada Geese(I’m told it’s not«Canadian geese» as geese have no pockets to carry passports) and ducks bip about a large pond on the ground. Many of these birds look broken in some fashion. There’s a big bucket of free feed and cups you can use to feed the birds. This keeps people from bringing their nachos and feeding them that. During weekends with good weather there are a lot of people and they’re feeding the birds so the birds can be pretty full and won’t really want to eat. But if you go during the weekday or early in the morning, the birds are quite excited to get a handful of seeds. There are also some peacocks and turkeys in pens. It’s free to visit although donations are accepted. There’s a small gift shop in the Jack house.
