This was our second stop on the Ice Wine Discovery Pass and we were treated to some amazing chocolate and a sample of Sue– Ann’s new red which will be in the LCBO this spring, as well as her Ice wine. We met Sue-Ann, herself, as well as her gorgeous and gigantic dog, Brix, who appears on all the wine bottles. She was wonderful and warm and eager to chat about her wines and the experience of making them. Bernadette did a wonderful job of hosting us in the tasting room. She had a way of painting food pairings with the wine that will made us drool with anticipation to get the bottles home and cook up a fabulous meal to enjoy with the wine. The farmhouse is charming and I’d have to say that this was one of the favourite wineries that we visited on our tour.

I recently spent a weekend in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region visiting multiple wineries and enjoying several tastings. I left this winery for last because I knew I loved her wines already. I’d recommend visiting the Megalomaniac winery, having some tastings there, THEN going to Sue-Ann’s. She makes wine for them as well and you’ll taste the similarities and the differences when you try them. We went on a Sunday afternoon, no appointment or booking. Arrived to a quaint white house, where you enter into the kitchen. It’s a very cozy place. We were greeted by Bernadette, who helped us with out with our tasting. Prior to coming, I had enjoyed a bottle of her Baco Noir which we picked up at the LCBO, and it was great. On this tasting, we were giving a new wine, that’s not yet available in the LCBO called Farm Girl. It was fantastic! Similar to her Baco noir but has a smokey note to it — we picked up a few bottles. I’m really glad I saved this for last because it was the most pleasant and least pretentious winery I had visited all weekend. The staff really make you feel at home here and we really enjoyed their hospitality. A little does go a long way. We will be back.

Sue Ann Staff is a beautiful winery that has some very good wines. Here are a few key points… 1. It is a bit off the beaten path not far from the much larger Henry of Pelham winery. The staff at Henry of Pelham recommended that our group find this place. 2. The winery is in an old home that is still the home of the owner. Tastings occur in her beautifully modern kitchen, while the rest of the home is historic. 3. The wines are very good. I particularly enjoyed the Baco Noir here. 4. Brix the dog will greet you in the yard. He is very friendly, but also somewhat of a diva. His seal of approval is on most wine bottles. 5. Not much wine from here is sold at the LCBO. This means that they cannot produce enough to meet LCBO specifications, but it also means that what you find here is not found anywhere else. 6. The staff here was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly.

Sue Ann staff winery was great stop in twenty valley area. Sue-Anne staff was 2002 winemaker of the year, She also makes wine in Megalomaniac winery. Her creations are solid and has great selection of wines. Tasting room itself was small but I had great experience. They offered paring with the bite they prepared. Sweet crisp meringue with rich liver pâté & jelly on top, they paired with 2011 Vidal. It was phenomenal and was best. I had to bring few bottles of Vidal. Staffs are very friendly and also Sue-Anne as well. Must drop by if you are planning to make a wine tour trip. I’ll definitely go back in the future for more experience.

Sue-Ann Staff Estate Wineries was a pleasant surprise. We had to make some changes to our plan for the weekend that we spent at the New Vintage festival, so we stopped here and stayed in the Twenty Valley rather than drive into Niagara-on-the-Lake. But everything was really great here, it was a pleasant detour. The wine they offered was a Pinot Grigio which was pretty tasty, nothing amazing, but overall, pretty good. Some fruity notes, somewhat light, not too dry, all in all a solid pinot. The food they offered was awesome, they served up a waffle with chicken and mushrooms and an awesome gravy. I would certainly stop here again the next time we come up here for a festival, and I’d strongly reccomend grabbing a tasting here, the staff was super friendly and great to chat with.
