I had the banana bread French toast and it was mind blowing! Such an amazing deal. And the potatoes are so perfectly made. I was really impressed.

Ok, to be fair, I’m from the east coast where you can get great pasta w/​meatballs and gravy at almost any pizza shop let alone a local Italian Restaurant. So I should have known better but the waitress said the Fettuccine and Meatballs was a popular dish and I needed comfort food. While the portion was ample and the fettuccine was very well cooked, the Tomato, Basil and Garlic sauce lacked something, let me see if I can put my finger one it… oh yea, tomato and garlic flavoring. The chunky sauce was loaded with onions, lots and lots of onions which in a french onion soup is great, but it by far overpowered the tomato sauce and battled the Basil down to the very end. I can just assume the garlic was killed very early in the process. I tried to work through it but gave up. The meatballs were good but were very tough and a little dry, I think they left out the egg, italian breadcrumbs, sauce, pork and veal. They were tasty little round hamburgers.
On the positive side, the atmosphere was nice, the staff attentive and the menu had a wide variety of local foods and beer. Not one to hold a grudge, I look forward to returning and trying something more along the line of the pub fare and remember not to order italian food west of Coatesville PA or Newburgh NY.

This is a nice place. A lot of selection, and well priced. The staff is usually very friendly and helpful. I got the veggie burger, and the fish tacos another time. I liked both.

Absolutely fantastic experience
Visited tonight for dinner and was absolutely blown away by everything from this location
To start:
Waitress was extremely friendly and had honest recommendations, which I value. Checked up on us at numerous points in the meal, and was very personable.
We ordered the pow shrimp (may have the name wrong) and it was cooked to perfection, dusted with spice and topped with a spicy mayo type sauce.
I’ve been to a lot of burger joints, and i can honestly say this was the best burger i’I’ve ever had. The quality and taste was out of this world. I can’t quite pinpoint what specifically it was, but it was delicious
The other two in my party ordered the chicken and spinach salad which she raved about” and the chicken wrap, which i tried a bite of, and I’d definitely order.
Atmosphere was elegant and decore was simplistic. I quite enjoyed my experience here, and i can say with certainty i will be back, and sharing my experience with others

Staff is extremely friendly. Was serviced right away. Ordered a burger with some fries; no complaints on the taste of the food but it certainly wasn’t memorable. Although it was a great place at the time to eat; I found there was nothing from the menu that stood out to me. Wouldn’t go back unless another friend is having a get together there.

The décor is just wonderful. Food was actually pretty good. We had a great time eating there. I recommend this place.

Let me start off by saying, I never got past the front door… didn’t see or try the food. My husband, one year old daughter and I walked over to the restaurant and asked for a table. They literally told us that their design scheme and tables were trendy and the style of the restaurant meant they didn’t have high chairs to use. We thought that was bizarre but since we were already there, and both hungry… we offered to just keep her in her stroller… but, they wouldn’t allow us to do that either! They repeated that because their tables were too high (tall) to accommodate high chairs, strollers or baby seats and because the restaurant was for a «different» crowd that they had no where to seat us. I was baffled that they did not even try to accommodate us! The hostess suggested we come back when we don’t have the baby with us??? The two very young and stylish girls at the front clearly did not have children of their own (if they did, heaven help those children), and both girls were confused as to why I was angry and told them we wouldn’t ever come back. I asked how they were going to stay in business alienating half of Hamilton or more, since many people have children and families that require seating accommodations. They smiled stupidly and laughed at us as we left.
Happy ending though, since we ended up grabbing a meal at the Burger Priest two doors down, which accommodated us no problem and had excellent food and service!
Needless to say, as for state & main, I wouldn’t entertain going back there if they paid me!!! Disgusting customer service.

At $ 15, i got the applewood smoked salmon. It was amazing and portions are off the charts! All sandwiches and entrees come with 2 sides. With so much variety, you can’t go wrong. The salmon was a bit dry, but the bacon and avocado really blended well. Just wish a tad bit more sauce. Will definitely be back. These prices are cheap when you consider bar pricing! Looks like a new place.

Great location and if you like newer restaurants with a great sense of style this place is for you.
The only downside to the building itself is the fact that the tables are pretty close together. Not a lot of space for two people at the smaller tables and servers have a difficult time bringing food to the table and serving.
Food was really good. Had a steak that was perfectly cooked (and I find with medium rare, this is not always the case). Awesome appetizers — the filling in the lettuce wraps was seasoned well and hot.
They have an interesting drink menu and they will try to make any drink that you suggest if you can’t find it on their menu.
We will be back for sure.

Finally after trying this restaurant, it wasn’t too bad. My dish was ok. Wouldn’t get it again. But I would definitely come back and give it a second chance ! I went for lunch, next time I would like to try dinner.

It was not too bad here. They have a tasty pulled pork sandwich. Their buffalo chicken cheese steak was way too bland and there was hardly any meat. The service was great and very accommodating, I asked to switch my sandwich and were kind enough to do so in a timely manner.

Went back for a friends birthday. The atmosphere was great and our server was really nice! The only complaint is that there is not much done for birthdays. Not even a candle on dessert. It was supposed to be a surprise for my friends and although the complimentary dessert was great it was weird because we expected to sing happy birthday and have her be shocked with candles or sparklers. Please re think this part for your customers.

State & Main was only considered for my friend’s birthday because we were able to walk in and grab a table around 7:00PM.
I got to say something right off the bat … this restaurant can get hectic — I feel like they’re unable to handle large tables and severely understaffed. Our server (who was running around pretty much the entire time) was serving our table and the bar = we didn’t see him as much as we wanted to. He got half the table drinks then ran away and left us all confused as half of us didn’t even get to order. Then he takes 10 minutes coming back to our table after we said we were ready to order.
The food itself was very decent but not spectacular. I got the fettuccine and meatballs — it was somewhat bland and I don’t like when my meatballs fall apart :(
I loved the idea of a grilled cheeseburger with 2 slices of grilled bread and the patty was perfect — the gravy was amazing and the whole combo came together really well.
Throughout the time we were eating our server came to ask if we needed anything but had 0 time to clear the already-​finished drinks from our table (which added up quite quickly) and then took time to actually clear our table after we were finished with our food.
When we were ready to order dessert he was overwhelmed at the bar and we decided to leave… and that took us another 15 minutes to get his attention and for him to print the receipts.
Overall, this place needs some revamping in terms of adding more staff and actually adding more hooks around the bar tables as some of my friends were just holding their coats the entire night.
I will come back to try their other menu items on a less busier night.

I went to this restaurant on a friday night and it was a gorgeous night so we sat on the patio. The four of us split a few share plates — the pretzel sticks and the hummus and naan bread and I highly recommend both. The pretzel sticks were huge and the mustard sauce was really good, but they were just as good on their own also. The naan bread and hummus was really tasty also. Martinis were on special so the girls of the group tried almost every martini they have (which is about 4) and I highly recommend the Thats apeach it was by far both our favorites but the blueberry cosmo is really good also. The boys tried some of their house made beers which they enjoyed, although one of their kegs blew so they couldn’t try one of the beers they wanted to.
For our mains I had a margherita flatbread pizza that was really good, my friend had fish tacos that were huge and looked amazing and both boys had steak sandwiches which were kind of the lackluster mains of the evening. The steak sandwich is in fact an open faced sandwich (which they were not aware of) so it was a piece of steak on a piece of garlic toast so not really a sandwich.
All in all the service was great, the alcohol was awesome and the food was really tasty (just maybe don’t order the steak sandwich if you aren’t a fan of open faced sandwiches, cause neither male of the group was).
Definitely worth going to!

Great comfort food! Lots of food to choose from. It’s a brand new restaurant at the corner of Upper James and Rymal. It’s a fairly fancy restaurant, but casual dress will do. They have great appetizers. Try one! Anything to order will be great, so go for it!

One of the best meals we’ve had in a while! I got the Buffalo Chicken Philly Cheese Sandwich and it’s my new favourite sandwich EVER. My hubby got the steak sandwich (which would have been better if it was not open faced as he likes to sink his teeth into a good steak sandwich) but it was delicious and he almost had an «American Pie» inspired incident with the jalapeño corn bread because he loved it so much.
The lettuce wraps that we got for an appy were excellent as well.
The sangria that I ordered packed a punch but I like that.
I want to go back there right now.

This place just opened on Upper James & Rymal beside The Burger’s Priest (two amazing options? How does one choose?). I went with two others on Tuesday night and was thoroughly impressed by the food, the service, and the atmosphere!
It’s a casual dine with reasonably priced food and BIG portions. For starters we had the Dragon Boat Lettuce Wraps which were so delicious I could have had that as my meal alone and I would’ve been satisfied! But for the main, I ordered the Applewood Salmon Club and had the option of two sides, so I chose the quinoa salad and French fries. It was all so good and I could barely finish it. The others had Long Beach Fish Tacos and the Saigon Sub with jalapeño mashed potatoes on the side (I tried these, they were heavenly) and they loved their meals just as well.
One thing I really like was that there are so many options at this place. In a sense it was overwhelming but I feel like I could bring anyone here and they could find something to eat that they would enjoy.
The waitress was very friendly and helpful (I’m not an onion fan and she double-​checked all the ingredients for me).
Overall, great experience and I will definitely be back.

So me and my friends wanted to try out this new restaurant. So we tried the half price wings um lets just say black bones anyone and not hot at all, they weren’t good glad they weren’t full price cause I wouldn’t pay that for them. I had the classics tomato and bacon soup that was good hot, I then tried the Mac and cheese oily and not really cheesy. Won’t be rushing to go back anytime soon lol. My friends say if you wanna know what restaurant is good as Jen well I won’t be saying this place sorry.
