Plan B is probably one of the weirdest stores I have ever been to. Lots to look at, vintage and antique paradise. Definitely an eclectic mishmash of everything you can imagine. A treasure hunters dream. Personally I enjoyed visiting and looking through things but didn’t see a lot that I would purchase. I do love that they have some locals handmade goods though. Lots to see, way more than you could in one visit.

If you’re reminiscing over the retro crap you used to own — you know, the stuff you loved as a kid and mom threw out when you left for college — then maybe you’ll find some joy in Plan B. Or, if you abide by the mantra«One man’s junk is another man’s used junk.» then you’ll probably enjoy this spot as well. But If you step back and take off the rose-coloured glasses, it’s easy to see Plan B for what it really is: a dirty, cramped store that sells overpriced shit you can find at any flea market or yard sale for a fraction of the price.

Plan B is an eclectic junk shop. It’s huge and there’s not much organization. That being said you might find just the vintage key or video game you need!

Funkadelic. That seems to be the only word I can conjure up that describes this almost-but-not-quite quaint, somewhat schizophrenic hodge-podgy space. Filled to the gills with both amazing treasures and unusable, obscenely ugly junk it was. I had a great time plowing through the piles of stuff though, losing myself in its maze of rooms and rooms-within-rooms. I was especially taken with their decent array of mid-century small furnishings… lamps, side tables, chairs, bric-à-brac, etc. and picked up a stunning 1950s era lamp as a gift for a friend. Unfortunately, the air is filled with some not very pleasant odors(emanating from both the space itself and a couple of people who work there). However, there is a tiny coffee bar with snacks available in back so was able to stick my nose in my cuppa for relief. Not my favourite place to hunt down quirky treasures, but worth an occasional browse when in the neighbourhood.

maybe i’m just an old prude, but i find this place really creepy. the taxidermy room especially. and there seems to usually be some teenager playing video games angrily from a couch in the center of the room, so that’s kinda… odd. but! i found a wonderful coat here and the proprietor let me haggle the price down ten bucks. this made me happy. the end.

If I had like a hundred grand I’d go completely broke shopping here. They have way too many cool things here. Every 5 minutes I was gasping in sheer excitement over every little knick knack, taxidermy oddity or article of completely unique clothing they carry. My personal favorite thing I saw here was a pair of gloves worn by Edgar Allen Poe. A close second was a taxidermy two headed rabbit. I honestly can’t comment on the prices seeing as I’ve never had purchased a two headed rabbit, so naturally I have no point of reference. They also have things like vintage clothing and shoes. I think I’d wear all of it. Purchasing an outfit here would guarantee a unique outfit, seeing as I doubt anyone else has anything like it in the city. They also have a good selection of vinyl, older stuff, no new releases to be found here. Lastly they have a coffee shop/restaurant/whatever here too, I didn’t pay much attention to it sadly because I was too drawn in by the paintings they sold there. They’re strange, and I say that in the most endearing way possible. I’d try to describe some of the paintings but I don’t think I can. I guess you’ll have to check this place out and see for your self!

Fun place, very diverse in their store, a little something for everyone and by various businesses. They also take reservations for meet ups and they can display items to sell such as goodies or any sort of hand made item or businesses that need some help being seen. I suggest anyone who wants to find cool swag to go there periodically

Mix and match. Chock a Block. Meli Melo. All of those define this place, but in a good way. Atmosphere/Products: 4⁄5 Chaos. Everywhere! First there’s the main room you walk into with piles and racks of clothes, followed by shelves of books and random glassware. Then there’s a maze of rooms with some freaky stuff everywhere! Old tin lunch boxes, signs, children games from the 70’s/80’s, stacks of comics, glasses, figurines, statuettes, everything! Then a small café of coffee, homemade chocolates and sodas, and a large ish didning room. Then you round the corner, and you’re in the back part of the first room, but now you seems bins of records, and a pretty impressive collection of video games from 1988 to 2004 ish. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Playstation, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, N64, all of it. AND, a couch to sit and play at your leasure. I wish I could give a definition to the genre of this store, but it seriously doesn’t have one. Only complaint is that I felt like I had a headache the entire time I was in there… Maybe it was dust, maybe it was a musky air, I couldn’t tell. Other than that, the place was fantastic! Price: 5⁄5 Hard to beat the prices here! Clothes for anywhere from $ 2 to $ 20, books from $ 3 to $ 20, and then moderately priced figurines and collectable nostalgia. Not much to say, as the prices are entirely reasonable for the most part. Customer Service: 4⁄5 Friendly and polite. Always good. They gave us our space as we walked through(maybe a bit too much, but still fine) and were sure to let us know if it seemed like we had questions. All in all, a fun place to visit and see what’s there. Maybe you’ll find something you like, maybe you won’t. BUT, you’ll have fun while looking!

Is this the coolest store in Halifax? Why yes, yes it is. Despite living only a few minutes’ walk away, today was my first time going inside and oh mylanta, how I regret not going sooner! Plan B is set up so that different rooms feature wares from different local merchants. You’ll find everything from steampunk jewellery to kawaii pencils, pickled scorpions to Wham! records, vintage clothing to vegan cookbooks. I spent close to twenty minutes in the curio shop room, and came thisclose to coming home with some sweet taxidermy.(Seriously though, that pensive-looking crow would look awesome perched on top of my fridge.) According to this week’s Coast, Plan B hosts an open mic poetry slam on Wednesday nights. How awesome is that? Go early so you have lots of time to check out the wares before settling in for some avant guard bards. You never know, you may be hearing the next Ginsberg.

This is easily one of the coolest shops that we’ve got here in Halifax and I’m amazed that more people haven’t caught onto it yet. AMAZED. In all fairness, it took me a long time to finally visit having assumed that Plan B was for people far cooler than I will ever be but I’m oh so glad I took those first steps in the door. It’s an artsy, crafty, vintage, handmade, bargain basement maze of goodies that will literally have you oohing and ahhing your way through from start to finish. You know it’s a shop but you can’t help but get the sense that it could just as easily be a museum or art gallery pulled right out of the Haight in San Francisco. For the under informed, Plan B is the result of a mish-mash of local vendors and crafters united under one very eclectic roof. I won’t even begin to list the types of things you’ll find in the nooks, crannies, and specific showrooms but a couple highlights for me were the massive collection of all video gaming platforms and corresponding games, a healthy representation of vinyl, and super sexy refurbished home lighting. Want more? Venture to the back to find a small, hidden café and art gallery. But, I mean, at that point Plan B is just showing off.

This place was so mystifying and cute. From little vintage clothing boutiques to vintage ephemera, club-wear, jewelry, art and just plain weird, something at Plan B is sure to catch your eye. I love the cooperative sales idea — the shared space grants premises to a lot of people who couldn’t otherwise afford them, and that means more options for all of us. I can’t see being a regular shopper(just not cool enough), but for the right demographic, this is sure to be a hit.

I had no idea what to expect when I stopped off here the other day. I had thought of Plan B as an art gallery, one with a small café placed inside it. Boy, was I wrong! Not that there isn’t art here, there is. There’s also a café, but it’s nothing like what you’re imagining. Trust me. You could spend hours in this place, easily. You could also get totally lost in the various rooms and corridors here, but that kind of adds to the fun. I wouldn’t reccomend you take small children, however. They could break things, or be broken themselves. Fish in bottles. cat skeletons, deer skulls, creepy art, there’s a lot of stuff here that might be too mcuh for the youngin’s. It’s just perfect for me, however. I had a lot of fun looking at all the various things held for sale here. There’s a lot of second hand clothing, and shoes, but you’d have to really dig through the piles to find a treasure. I wasn’t in the mood for that, but I was in the mood to study almost every shelf and their very strange contents. There’s a top-notch video game section to boot, with systems you thought were long gone. I’ll be back here several times over. I’m excted to see how often they get new merchendise.
