Have you ever wondered what a place would look like if you combined a McDonalds with a homeless shelter? If you have, check out the McDonald’s on SGR. It’s really fun to go there at 7am before yoga to pick up a coffee(which is actually really good). I love starting my weekend watching people come down from MDMA or whatever. I guess all downtown McDonald’s are going to be pretty sketch but damn, the manager of this store should try to at least feel a bit safe. Oh yeah, I’ve tried to get McFlurry’s there about 10 times in the past three years and maybe twice they«had» them. I would wager quite a bit that they just don’t want to make them. I worked at McDonald’s when I was a kid so I know it isn’t an easy job but come on, how do you run out of McFlurry.

Was just here to get a burger, all the food is the same across all mcdonalds for the most part. For such a busy location they should have another register or two. The location is handy, food is cheap and quick, if you dont mind the usual people out front then its just about the same as any other mcdonalds.

what a disturbing scene and an insult to food handeling and sanitation standards. not only is square inch of space covered in leftover food waste, the service is rushed and the food isnt turned over to spec. i dont care what time of day it is, or how busy it may have been ten minutes ago, if my fries arent crispy and my soda pop fizzing the syrupy flavour in a proper ratio — then my 15 dollar happy meal isnt the experience promised, and im disgusted by the obscene environment they proudly cash in on.

A little bit of a strange layout, but otherwise service was fine and the food was what you expect. I would consider going here again for breakfast as an alternative to say Tim Horton’s. Only issue is that the homeless population is kind of high on this street, but I didn’t have any issues.

This is hands-down probably the worst place to work at in Halifax. Not only are the people who go here the times I do(late at night, highly intoxicated) but it seems to draw first years more than any place I know. The servers are patient, quick paced, and try to serve everyone as fast as they can as best as they can. People are regularly rude to the employees and they meet the rudeness with the utmost professionalism. This is also where many of the homeless and punk kids go to hang out/use the bathrooms and the bathrooms and place are always extremely clean and well taken care of. I once fell asleep here while drunk and was kindly woken up and told that I have to keep awake or else I will be kicked out. I lasted about ten minutes until I fell asleep again, was(nicely) kicked out, and promptly vomitted outside. The food is similar to any other McDonalds but this place gets five stars for having to put up with the worst Halifax has to offer.

Went to this location for a bite at about 2 am. They were out of beef patties. A McDonals… was out of beef patties. How does this happen? I’m not sure. Kudos to the staff that puts up with the Spring Garden crowd, especially the post 11 pm Spring Garden crowd. But seriously… how the F$%K does a McDonalds run out of beef patties!!!

Truth be told, I only ever go to McDonalds for the coffee.(Ok… SOMETIMES for chicken nuggets, but usually for coffee). It’s right across from my office, and it’s the cheapest cup of joe that you’re going to find. That being said, at this particular location, I have had to wait 10 and even 15 minutes for one single cup of coffee. Black coffee. Cheap? Yes. Efficient,? Sweet jesus no. Perhaps the food is fast, but the caffeine is not.

Another disappointing experience at the Spring Garden Road McDonald’s: 14 people in line, 18 minutes until I finally got my «fast» food. It’s ridiculous that a downtown McDonald’s in a city of almost 300,000 only has two cash registers, but what’s even more ridiculous is that they only staff one of the two on a long weekend coupon event Saturday afternoon. Why do I keep going there? Because they have the best franchise and the best location. If there was another, properly staffed and managed, McDonald’s in downtown Halifax, this one would be out of business in less than a month.

First off, how can you rate a McDonald’s? I mean they’re ubiquitous in a city centre and everyone has eaten there at least once. No, it would be foolish to rate a McDonald’s on its culinary merits. But this review is not for taste satisfaction, oh no. My review for McDonald’s on Spring Garden Road is to cheers the staff that put up with the less than subdued crowds every night of the week. Being a 24-hour fast food establishment has got to be one of the bravest business decision I have ever heard of. Halifax is a university town and with university students comes parties, nights out and people craving a double cheeseburger at 3 a.m. after some serious dancing downtown. I am not embarrassed to say that I frequent the Spring Garden McDonald’s more than a gym, church and library combined. The staff who work the graveyard shifts are fully aware of the type of patron that visits a McDonald’s after 1 a.m. and to their credit, they couldn’t be nicer about it. Putting up with obnoxious bros, abrasive mini skirts and sass left and right has to wear on a person but the McDonald’s staff usually take it in stride; they do their job and they do it well. Nothing tastes better than a double cheeseburger with chicken nuggets after what seems like an excruciatingly long walk home and for this I thank Spring Garden Road McDonald’s. You are my first pit stop on the less than 15 minute walk I have to my home from a bar and while waiting for my order may take as long as catering a wedding with two vegans and the lactose intolerant, it is so worth it. I hope the next time any of you reading this decide to stop at McDonald’s you take a moment and temper your behaviour. You might have been absolutely hilarious at the party and a dancing machine at the bar but under the unforgiving fluorescent lights of the Golden Arches — you’re just a jerk in Ed Hardy. Be quiet, respect the staff, order your food and stumble on home.
