Lemme start by saying that I am Indian and know what Indian food is supposed to taste like. We ordered takeout and asked what was good and ordered Lamb Dopiaza, Chilli Chicken with 3 rotis and 1 naan, also a plain Yogurt. They never packed a Yogurt which I found out before i left the place and had them pack one. We never recieved the garlic naan. The Chilli Chicken is much more than just food coloring and a shit load of chillies but I guess they dont know that. The Lamb Dopiaza had BURNT onions in it because it was take out so by the time we’d open it they would already be closed. We threw out the whole thing and resorted to Mcdonalds at 11PM. Oh, did I mention their server was piss ass drunk? Yea, fun stuff.

Excellent naan, decent curry, don’t bother with delivery. I’ve ordered delivery a few times and it is always late. The last time took over an hour and a half. We canceled our order, and they threatened to charge us anyways. Will not be giving them any more business.

The food was good. However, the shock of the bill at the end of it really struck me. The group I went with all got surprises at the end when they had to spend each over 25.00 a plate, when thinking it was only 13.00.

Best Indian food I’ve ever tasted — hands down(considering I’ve never actually been to India). I got the mixed vegetable curry and asked for it to be spicy … And I’m SO glad it was. It was one of the most flavourful and delicious curries ever. My mom got the chicken madras(added vegetables — make sure to request) and it was almost too spicy for her. As someone who eats Indian food a lot, that is saying something! If you like the spice, go for it. The prices were very low for very good portions, the staff were friendly and helpful with dietary accommodations and menu substitutions; overall, great experience. I’ll definitely be showing up again. And again.

Love the onion bhaji and mango lassi here. Veg food is not too bad and price is also ok. Service is nice even. Garlic naan, Channa masala and veg kofta are delicious. We are a frequent customer here. I would recommend it.

I went for my birthday last year. Everything appeared to have the same gravy!!! The rotis were burnt… N when I asked for the left over curry to be packed(just to be sure that no one was served what I had eaten from). Horrible… Before I could even leave the restaurant. It had all spilt into the polybag… The food was not worth the money. N the service atrocious. The proprietor of the place even gave unsolicited advice as to moving out of Halifax!!! I am never going back in there. My experience was disastrous to say the least.

This was the absolute WORST meal I have ever had, and very much overpriced for what you get. My husband had the Tandoori chicken. It was BLACK! Burnt dry! Served with bland, dry rice, and a small piece of iceberg lettuce with a couple small pieces of tomato and cucumber and ranch dressing. How Indian is that??? The bowl of butter chicken tasted like chicken pieces in Campbell’s tomato soup!!! NOFLAVOUR!!! Thank God my husband got some rice and salad or I just would have had my bowl of chicken tomato soup, NOSIDES!!! Plus, we were originally seated and served our apps when we were asked to move to another table, no window, for a better customer!!! Do not go here!!! Terrible!

This place is only getting 2 stars because of the awful service but the food was good! Ok. So a group of 7 of us decided we wanted to have Indian food. When we placed our orders and this is what took place… When I was placing my order I asked how many people would a large rice feed, he said it would be good for 3 people. He ended up bringing out 2 bowls of rice(which appeared to be small size bowls). Later I see a large plate full of rice go to another table in the restaurant. Also I had ordered the vindaloo chicken, the server told me that it was«very very hot», I said that I was fine with that and I would like to order the vindaloo anyway. He brings me out the butter chicken?!? And tried to tell me that’s what I ordered but I politely reminded him of our«very very hot» conversation. The drinks were forgotten and never brought to us. A person at the table order one samosa and the server repeated that but brought out 2 samosa, when asked about it he said it only comes in 2. I figure that would be something you’d mention to costumers… Naan bread was plain when ordered with garlic. Our water glasses were empty and we would always had to ask for refills, while the staff were sitting at the table next to us on a laptop doing whatever and not paying attention to the customers. The experience was stressful and annoying. I was charged for an extra bowl of rice(remember the 2 small bowls) when I asked about it, he said«we only have one size.» So why did he bring two bowls? I ordered 1 large if he didn’t have it then say so! I understand people have bad days and such, or if the group was rowdy and obnoxious but we all work in the food industry so were cautious of that and didn’t act that way. It’s sad because the food WAS good but the service was crappy… I’ve since been back.

Over priced, not authentic and bad taste. Chicken tikka looked like it was cooked the day before. Dry and taste less. Onion salad for 4 dollars was a small cup size and channa masala was thr worst I have had in my life.

Great mulligatawny soup. Awesome chicken korma and nan bread. This is real Indian comfort food. Service is always fast and friendly, easy 30 minute lunch(unlike other sit down restaurants in the area). A real gem just off Spring Garden.

One of my favourite places to eat in Halifax — they serve authentic indian food, and the owner is awesome. I must admit, I’ve only had the chicken curry, naan, and appetizer soup, but all three have been amazing each time. They have lunch specials too, which helps the wallet. If you’re looking for Indian food definitely check this place out, hands down the best Indian food in HRM.

Probably one of the best Indian places I’ve eaten at. It’s a little hole in the wall on Dresden, but you can’t disagree with the quality of food. So good! Got the butter chicken — I’ve eaten that at so many places and so many different ways that I just use that as my go-to baseline when I’m eating at a new Indian place. My assumption is that everyone knows how to make BC, but to make a good one you stand out above everyone else. While this BC wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, it’s definitely one of my faves. Service was sort of slow, but the place was packed on a Sunday. Go figure. Either way, can’t wait to go back for more and try the rest of the menu!

If you’re craving Indian food in Halifax this is where you go. The lamb vindaloo was killer. Moist and tender with a little kick. Chicken tikka masala was great and so was the mixed vegetable curry. The garlic naan was the best I have had yet. Service was perfect too. Will love to come here again.

My FAVOURITE Indian restaurant in Halifax. Staff are friendly, food is absolutely delicious, and the menu is extensive. Whether you like spicy, mild, require vegetarian options, this place has it all. The vegetable samosa’s are to die for, and their Shai Butter Chicken(the red butter chicken — not to be confused with their regular Butter Chicken which is yellow) — is heavenly. I could eat their naan, palao rice, and shai butter chicken every day.

Unfortunately Halifax has some of the most amounts of bland restaurant food and doesnt taste good for some reason. This place was one of the few with very good food. Its very good indian food and good location too.

Loved the mixed vegetable curry. Hated the flickering flourescent lights and that the bathroom sinks had no water when I went upstairs. But both times I’ve been here the food has been great, the service pleasant, and I’ve enjoyed the background music.

Had the vegetarian«combo c» for take-away the other night. *really really wish they delivered. sigh. Satisfied my craving for Indian, but sadly wasn’t as good as I’d been lead to believe — but I’m not giving up hope! Next time will most likely try for dine-in. Very average samosas.

Two years ago I visited the Village with a friend for a night of chicken tikka masala, but the thing is, I seriously can’t remember what I thought of it. So tonight I gave Curry Village another chance and It did not disappoint. The garlic naan was crispy. The lamb korma was creamy and deliciously spiced, and the palao rice was elegantly fluffy. There is a wide variety of menu choices from a whole vegetarian section, to every saucy dish from vindaloo to saag featuring: beef, chicken, lamb, and shrimp. The only real disappointment to me was the price/food ratio. Most meat dishes are about 14.95 and are relatively small. Add on naan for 2.95 and palao rice for 3.95 and the price starts to rise. There are combination plates, but there are few to create a real variety. I would highly recommend Curry Village as a «once in a while treat» in addition to the best Indian restaurant I have tried in Halifax.
