This place is a gem. I have been here twice now, and both visits were wonderful. The staff is very friendly, the food is delicious and the music adds the final touch. Try the Gillespie if you’re up for an adventure it’s one fantastic pizza. I have done a pizza tour of all the great places in NYC and this place would rank right up there with them. Way to go Manhattans!

I had a splendid time here on my recent visit. The music was enjoyable and easy to listen to talk quietly during, as the mood struck. Our pizza was delicious and my carmel apple martini was perfect! The service was attentive and friendly and the décor was the kind of spot I would enjoy for a date or a special night out with friends. I have no doubt we’ll visit often!

Seated after 2 minutes around 9:30 on a Saturday night. The couple behind us had to wait about 20, so we got lucky. Live piano and drums were great. Everyone was nice and attentive. No surprises with bruschetta and Caesar salad, both were standard fare but tasty. Italian sausage pasta with goat cheese was very good. Baked chicken tasted a bit too charred but my guest enjoyed it well enough. 2 appetizers, 2 mains, and 2 drinks came to just under $ 80 with tax and tip. I wasn’t blown away but wouldn’t decline a return trip.

Manhattan’s, revisited. I’ve now visited this place twice, the primary, before it was destroyed by fire, and the second, most recently, post rebirth. And, I must say, well done. On this given Friday night, it was pretty hopping. This would be, according to the observation of a non-local, the spot for adults to chill and enjoy a night out in Guelph. As well, a popular choice for date night or meet the parents for dinner and some atmosphere. The owner seems rightfully pleased with the renovation, proudly proudly pointing out key features of the space as we were warmly welcomed into his home, as it were. Ambiance is eclectic, if not slightly all over the map, with an unusual mixture of elements, that strangely combine to work well within the environ they occupy. A little French country, some Morrocon, a dash of Traditional, and just enough Liberace to jazz it up. We sampled the chacuterie. A sad array of salami and a bit of cold olive tamanade presented itself. It looked sad. And tasted about the same. Fortunately, the pizza, the star of the establishment was on the money. And, so, it should be. I’ll return, when in the hood, but this joint won’t be the first stop on my list of culinary stop overs.

Take two — redux! Manhattans has reopened, and the pizza is as phenomenal as ever, with crisp, ultra-thin, flavorful crust and exquisite and creative combinations of fresh toppings.(I haven’t eaten pizza since they closed last year; the other offerings in town just haven’t tempted me.) The interior has some of the same unique personality, but with a bit more upscale swank; service is still personable and efficient. Caveat: mixed drinks still aren’t quite worthwhile(mixed incorrectly, so they don’t taste good, and sometimes laughably small compared to price), but there’s a pleasant array of beers on tap and quite a decent wine list(including affordable and palatable house wine selections). Just recently, Manhattans has started experimenting with weekend brunch — love that it seems to extend into the afternoon, which is what brunch is all about, but hoping they’re open to a bit of constructive criticism on the food. Here goes: 1) Hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was too salty, although a good texture; 2) Eggs in the Benedict were not quite poached enough(I despise runny gelatinous whites); 3) Peameal bacon was tough; consider offering other meats, like smoked salmon, pulled pork, or prosciutto — or find alternative sources for the peameal; 4) Salad(which I chose over the potatoes) was heavily overdressed, and the shredded carrots and cabbage did not contribute in a positive way(although I give you kudos for not using iceberg lettuce, which isn’t worth the effort to chew) — check out the salads at Borealis for an example of how sexy greens can be; 5) Potatoes(which the hubby had) consisted of a rubbery, chewy and wholly unappetizing patty — consider home fries instead; and 6) Bloody Marys, or Caesars, are an important staple for brunch(for me and my friends, at least). There’s an art to creating a good one. A thicker mix, more of the added ingredients, fresh celery stalks and pickled vegetables all contribute strongly… while I don’t know exactly how you mix yours, I know what I like, and I found yours a bit thin and wanting in the vegetable department. The other brunch menu items looked quite tempting, especially the lemon-dill-caper cream cheese with the smoked salmon bagel. Please don’t think that I love you any less, Manhattans — I believe in you, and hope you can use this to fully develop your brunch menu before you hit the general public with it!

Great artisan pizza. Awesome live music and atmoshpere. Nice people and a fish tank behind the bar. A bit pricey for pizza until you taste it! check out more of my stuff: |
