Where should I start… Our dinner experience was accompanied by a nice background track of angry high-pitched Unilocal: the lady who I suppose is the owner of the place was, I assume because it was in a language I don’t speak, chastising her employees near the kitchen. First, we ordered 4 spring rolls. In 3 of them, we found small unchewable pieces of what looked like cartilage. Then, we had soup(phở). We expected to get the typical asian-style soup spoons, which are the norm, and help immensely when eating phở, but instead we were given regular soup spoons, which was disappointing. They did bring us chopsticks, and from the look of them, I’m glad I didn’t get splinters in my lips. My girlfriend found hair in her soup and it was clearly not hers. In addition, the calamari in her seafood phở was way overcooked, and thus very rubbery. My phở wasn’t particularly bad, but I’ve had much better at other Vietnamese restaurants in Hull.

This is without a doubt the best asian food in the area. I am a regular here and come here very often. Their food is incredibly delicious, I always have the chicken stir fry with vegetables and as an appetizer i always get some spring rolls. The staff is so welcoming and friendly. The prices are very reasonnable. This is not a place you will regret going too.

What a fantastic– and unexpected– jewel. Tucked away far from their sister restaurant in Ottawa’s Chinatown, I was really happy to discover this Vietnamese restaurant in Gatineau’s sleepy Tétreau district. This is not a phở restaurant– sure, you can get the standard noodles in broth here, if you want– but the menu is fantastic and varied, offering grilled meats to an extensive vegetarian selection. If you’ve ever lamented the meagre meat-free options at other Vietnamese restaurants, you’ll be glad you came. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the grilled pork melts in your mouth. Just a short drive from Ottawa’s centretown districts, it’s well worth the trip.
