When you see dressed up delivery vehicles hawking roast chicken and then discover it’s not St-Hubbies I’m intrigued. Now I set my benchmark for your standard quarter chicken dinner @ St-Huberts rather than Swiss Chalet so spotting Benny & Co makes it an interesting three horse(or chicken) race. My plan. Call in the order. Pick it up. Self Deliver. Consume @ home. This location(and may assume others are to the same standard) had a nice look to it and would probably drop in and order-in if the option comes up. The Vanier road location is kind of small so not made for large groups. My order was ready and was quickly back on the road. I really wanted to get a feel for what was on offer so I opted for the ½ chicken dinner. The first thing I noted is that the take out box had some weight to it so that made me feel good. Perhaps some left over chicken to save for later or break down and make a chicken salad sandwich with. Within the box there were no surprises. Fries — Crinkle cut. Standard quality but the crinkles made sauce dunking more efficient so that was a nice touch if you like the fries and gravy route. Coleslaw — I’m a fan of good coleslaw. I like the simple St-H. oil and vinegar. Not a big fan of the to finely gound un-natural colour type if you follow my meaning. I quite liked the Benny & Co. slaw. It’s good. Flat bun like thing. — That burger bun bottom that lost it’s partner. Set to the side. Chicken — Yes. Now getting to it. The Demi Poulet was quite a generous size. Good crispy skin(This is a bit of an estimate due to the fact that is was in a delivery box for while). Tasty seasoning. Dark meat moist and tender. White meat a little on the dry side but there is a cure for that and it’s the sauce. BBQ Sauce — This is the deal maker/breaker for any chicken/rib joint. For me, I liked the sauce. Better than St-H. Much better that Swiss Chalet. Plus with the ½ chicken there were two servings. I’m definitely going to be seeing Benny & Co. again.
