I’ve been there a few times this summer. I haven’t had a bad experience yet. I really like their french fries.
I find the portions to be large, I have yet to finish my entire meal.
I can’t really critique all their food because I’ve ordered the exact same thing each time I’ve gone. My meal was great each time.

Fresh. Original. Local. When I see these words on a cover of a menu, and it’s my first time there, and it’s close-​ish to my new house in the county. well, let’s just say it gets my engine running. To follow it up with great food and a draught list of almost all micros (including two from local guys Walkerville), I’m happy and planning to come back. It seems that despite the name, this place has got it going on, and has for many many years.

Food is pretty good. A great selection of draught beers. Good service and the prices are reasonable. Go here at least a couple of times a month and can’t say I have had a bad meal. The fries are really good but can be overdone. Mentioning that to the waitress usually solves that problem. One of the better and more consistent places to eat in the county.

This is a pretty good pub-​like place to visit in Essex with decent food. I really enjoy the home made soups in the winter. I think the portions need to be a bit bigger overall which might affect the rating a bit.
The food is good quality though I find they try to be a bit more posh than the venue lets on by putting the food on retanglular plates, the fries in a seperate squarish bowl, etc. Presentation is less important to me than quality and a reasonable quantity for the price.
I have no complaints in general but there is also nothing really noteworthy to add either.
