From bottom of my heart probably best sushi restaurant in the south side of edmonton. Interior is cool and very clean. Food is good i have tried katsu don, unagi don, takoyaki, beef tataki, udon, several types of sushi nvr let me down or was at least better than other places. And washroom is cool 4⁄5 caz sometimes it took forever to get our food

This is the hubster’s favorite place to go for Japanese food. Occasionally we come here for lunch and get the bento boxes. A couple weeks ago we came here for dinner. The food and customer service was good. The dragon roll was very creative. We usually have a good dining experience whenever we come, but when we came here for dinner there was a large group of young men, about a dozen, who were loud, obnoxious and obviously drunk. A few of them kept coming in and out of the restaurant. Finally they all left. When we left there were three piles of vomit outside the door. If this is what goes on during dinner service, I will have second thoughts about coming here for dinner again.

Hidden gem. Why is this not talked about more? Excellent sake list, very resonantly priced for the quality. First sushi experience Since a recent trip to Japan, and I’m more than happy to eat here. Good fish, and fun experimental rolls. Recommended.

We’ve wanted to try Yokozuna for some time and finally following a maki craving we ended up there on a Saturday night. It was busy with families and groups but they were able to seat us right away. We ordered the Dragon Eye, Spicy Tuna and Dynamite rolls. They were all fresh, tasty and we left feeling satisfied. The dishes were on the more expensive side but the restaurant has a great atmosphere(despite it’s outward appearance in a strip mall) and the servers were very attentive. I would definitely return to try some of the other items on the menu and let’s be honest for more deep fried maki.

We had the California rolls to start. They were delish. The seaweed melted in your mouth. That’s a good sign that they are quality! Then we had the beef undo and the sukiyaki undo. The beef was the best. The beef was tasty and tender. The sukiyaki is a much bigger bowl and the tofu was ok. I’d order the beef next time.

Our party of six were treated so well and we were grateful for the tatami room. We closed the place down after enjoying very fresh and good quality Japanese fare all mixed with laughter and great conversation. Our faves: Beef Tataki and Age dashi and Hamachi Sashimi, wowed us! The rolls were ok but not well pressed and fell apart. Still tasty but messy Tempura was plentiful and crisp Good sake list Very nice green tea(liked the big pots)

My brother and I randomly chose this place for lunch one day out of convenience. We both ordered the chicken bento boxes for lunch and shared the dragon eye roll. The positive points of the lunch were that the sushi was good, the establishment was clean and I thought the prices were fairly decent and comparable to lots of other places. The downfall of lunch, however, was that the service was pretty slow, the tempura was bland and the teriyaki chicken(? — menu doesn’t actually state what kind of chicken it is) wasn’t amazing. Unlike most places that will use a breaded chicken breast with some sauce, these seemed more like 2 super deep fried chicken fingers. The dragon eyes were also decent but not the best I’ve ever had.

Very gross. After we ate our bento meals, we both felt a little sick. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, and the chicken came out deep fried and sticky with a gooey sweet syrup. The Tonkatsu bento was equally gross: it tasted like it was frozen food that’s been just deep-fried. The bread covering did not have that handmade feel. The tempura also tasted gross, as if it were a batch of them sitting around for days and was flash fried as soon as the order came. I could tell because of how dry the shrimp was, and also, there was a doughy layer beneath the fried. Basically, the meat and tempura were all deep fried, but it made the chicken taste rubbery. Will not be back. I’d rather pay a few more bucks and get better quality of food at Mikado.

Food taste good but is really overpriced. Black cod-$ 14 dollar for a super tiny piece, not worth it. The skewer doesn’t have much salt on it although they say is sea salt. I would rather go Watari in downtown Edmonton, same price and you can at least order triple the amount you can have here and their food taste fabulous

Finally tried this place on a Unilocal review, sushi variety is very ordinary, service is rude, good atmosphere, over priced little portion sushi, if you are a proper sushi eater I won’t recommend this place but if you just started and have money to waste please go a head. Can’t believe that a Vancouver lady recommend this place and tried to compare this place to Vancouver sushi.

Let me begin by saying that for an unassuming exterior in a uninspiring locale, the interior ambiance is phenomenal. The décor is on point and gives a traditional japanese vibe with a modern flair. The overarching theme for the food, I would say, is good but pricey. I started out with the octopus balls, which were not as crispy as I’d had hoped and contained only a single piece of octopus in each ball, which was disappointing. Similarly, I found that while the fish was fresh, the sashimi platter that I ordered was extremely overpriced for the content that I received, especially as it didn’t contain a lot of valuable content(Surf Clam and Octopus doesn’t help warrant a hefty price tag). The maki rolls I ordered, I went with the basics, doing a Chop chop and a plain salmon roll. These were done well, and were more reasonably priced. The accompanying green tea was great, though. For over 50 $ for one person, I wouldn’t say I left the restaurant feeling full or extremely satisfied, but it is true that the quality of the food is good. For the price, I’d rather go to another higher end sushi restaurant in Edmonton.

Nice environment. Food was fine… Not so good service though! It’s a $ 1.5 charge for extra ginger! You’ll be also charged for any extra sauce(hot sauce, spicy mayo, etc.) Not recommended…

I don’t understand what all the hype about Yokozuna is. I admit, the quality of the seafood seems fairly good, but for the amount that they charge for the small serving sizes that they offer, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I realize that Japanese food isn’t known for their large portion sizes, but I’ve been to countless Japanese restaurants, and the sizes at Yokozuna was just disappointing in comparison. The best part of the meal was definitely the Tuna Taco appetizer. They are very different from anything else I’ve ever had. Crispy taco shell, great sauce, and perfectly charred Tuna slices. We ordered the Ohzeki sushi platter which ended up being the smallest little platter for $ 30 I’ve seen in a long time. Each piece was beautifully cut, though, and good quality. Then the skewers came out. We got the chicken hearts, chicken gizzards, and the scallops. With the 4 of us, these were a little hard to share especially when there were only 3 medium sized scallops and thin pieces of chicken. The scallops weren’t cooked all that well — they were missing the good char on the outside that I would expect. The chicken was underseasoned. $ 9.25 for the three skewers, and probably about 4 tablespoons of food in total. We also ordered the Yokozuna Aburi Roll($ 16) and the Black Dragon Roll($ 15). The Black Dragon Roll was quite delicious and I would recommend this roll to others who would like to try Yokozuna. The rolls were all full-sized and what I would expect from any other Japanese restaurant with, of course, the price tag on the higher end(although I’ve seen those prices before). We had banked on the sushi platter being much larger, and since it wasn’t, we ended up ordering the Chicken Udon and the Katsudon. The Udon($ 11) tasted like an MSG soup base rather than an authentic Udon broth based soup. It was quite salty and again, a very small portion(Definitely not enough for even a single person). The Katsudon was a bit more filling, but the breaded pork was soggy and the sauce was a bit too sweet. Definitely not worth the $ 14.50. All 4 of us were kinda full but not completely satisfied at the end of the meal, but decided to call it finished anyways.

As just relocated from Vancouver I was craving sushi for lunch. Based on the Unilocal reviews I popped in and was so pleasantly surprised. By far the best I’ve had in Edmonton to date and still looking to try other gems based on reviews! They made things for me that weren’t on the menu but have always been my favourite such as the salmon avocado roll and did a beautiful ebi Sunomono for me. Loved the ambiance and was a great place to escape the office for an hour. Will definitely be bringing my spouse back so we can enjoy some of the others and dip into the Sake together! Pleasantly surprised!

In my opinion, the best sushi in Edmonton and their Sake menu is unparalleled. Very good sashimi and you can get authentic maki rolls with interesting fillings(e.g. Japanese pickle). They also have excellent Yakitori grilled over charcoal(I always have at least half a dozen) — try the bacon wrapped asparagus, you won’t regret it. The setting is very nice and relaxing, it is a great place to enjoy your evening.

Recommended. Their version of Chicken Kara-age is very good, it’s on par with Izakaya Tomo. The Black Dragon Roll is one of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in a while, I think it’s just as good as Japonais Bistro’s TNT Roll. Service is good, very attentive. What I don’t like about this restaurant is the interior and ambience. I’m not sure what this restaurant looked like before the renovation but i feel they should have considered adding windows to bring natural light inside so you don’t feel like you’re in a storage room when eating.

It’s funny how things work out. I just ate a great sushi meal at another south side gem, Sushi Wasabi, but was originally debating between them and Yokozuna when we first decided that we wanted sushi for dinner. Well, fast forward two days, we were in the area and decided to try Yokozuna’s out on a late Tuesday evening. «Late» meaning 8pm… gah, Edmonton, quit sucking. This little strip mall area has some surprisingly good spots(Thai Valley Grill, Phở Anh, the EPL). Yokozuna’s sign is hilariously generic from the outside. They should really update their sign — it would help attract people driving by. But for those in the know, already know Yokozuna is legit as they come, being run by a Japanese family. It was our first time eating here and we were pleasantly surprised. The place is nicely renovated with a sleek, modern look with nice wooden furnishing, good lighting and ample privacy. There were only a few tables occupied so we didn’t have to wait long to get our food. Potentially our wait to order may have been longer. No biggie though as it let us peruse the menu to its fullest. We had a very friendly waitress who gave us great service. — Green tea($ 1.00 each) — we were brought a tea press full of green tea. Love when they do that so that you don’t have to keep on asking for re-fills. — Yokzuna garlic tuna($ 17.50) — this was off the charts good. Great appetizer to start our meal off. The tataki was made up of albacore tuna, spinach, onion and garlic ponzu. The sauce was ahmaaaazing. The tuna had that melt in your mouth texture and seriously, spinach on the bottom was a bonus/genius idea. — Ohzeki($ 35.00) — monster plate of delicious, fresh sashimi. Beautifully executed, properly cut and look at the size of these pieces. Those are some quality, thick pieces. You get 5 pieces each of salmon and tuna, 4 scallops, 6 hokkigai(surf clam), 3 tai(red snapper) and tako(octopus), and 2 saba(mackeral) and ebi(shrimp). That’s 30 pieces for $ 35.00. Very, very reasonable especially considering it’s Edmonton. Works out to $ 1.17 a piece! DEAL. — Spicy salmon roll($ 8.50) — The spicy salmon roll consisted of salmon, cucumber and sesame while the rainbow roll had tempura shrimp, lettuce, masago, salmon, tuna, tai, ebi and avocado. The spicy salmon was actually spicy. — Rainbow roll($ 12.00) — We ordered the rainbow roll because it was apparently the«best» in town, but for us, it was pretty ordinary. Not that anything was wrong with it but it could have used a sauce or something to make it stand out. — Chop chop maki($ 6.00) — chop chop’s are the best. — Hamachi(yellow tail) nigiri($ 5.25) — The nigiri comes in pairs(2 pieces per order) so we tried out the hamachi, which was absolutely delicious. This might be one of my favourite types to order There was a lot of sushi on that plate(8 pieces for the rolls and 6 pieces for the smaller makis). We ended up having to take a dozen home(lucky me!). We were very impressed with Yokozuna. Another south side gem to add to the go again list. Best deal I’ve found so far in the city for sashimi(and fresh, generous slices to boot).

Just spent Valentine’s Night with my spouse at this restaurant. Reservations were made but when we arrived, it was a little disorganized because they really were not sure where to seat us. We did get a nice little corner section to ourselves though. The food was really good. They had a Valentine’s dinner for two that filled us both up. Size of things were pretty good. It had a salad, miso soup, sashimi, rolls, tempura. It also came with ice cream for dessert. We also ordered a taco salad for a extra appetizer dish. Other than a little slowness at the beginning, the wait staff were fairly attentive. My spouse and I were full and happy with our dinner. One of the better sushi places in Edmonton.

I’ve always been paranoid to eat sushi. I have a unreasonable fear of becoming ill from bad sea food but have always wanted to try it. I was recommended this restaurant from one of my customers and finally got a chance to try it out tonight. It’s very easy to find and the space is beautiful. We walked in and were greeted and sat right away. Not being familiar with Japanese cuisine I was relieved to see the menu was amateur friendly and I could easily understand what I was ordering with no surprises. We got the beef and chicken heart skewers which were fantastic. I love chicken hearts and was excited to find a place that has them. We ordered the Yokozuna Aburi, Rising Sun, Sea food tar-tar, and spicy salmon rolls. All of which were very delicious. Each order has 8 pieces which after only about 6 i was already getting full they were so big! Service was wonderful, we never had to wait very long for anything and the waiters were very helpful in answering our questions. Next time i have a craving for good Japanese cuisine we will definitely be back!

I’ve never eaten at Yokozuna but I was craving sushi, in the area, and since I’d just had Sushi Wasabi, I wanted to try somewhere new. This place had pretty good reviews(thanks Unilocalers!) so I thought I would check it out. They have their entire menu online, which was really helpful — I was able to phone in my order ahead of time and maximize my time doing other things. They have a decent menu with some unique maki(in addition to classics), and I really like the sashimi choices(3, 6, or 12 pieces, or one of two preset choices with the exact number of pieces of each seafood listed). They also had yakitori on their menu so of course I had to try some, though there is a minimum order of 3 skewers(can mix-and-match). I really enjoyed the chicken heart and gizzard skewers — I’m a sucker for organ meats and here they were thinly sliced, grilled, and with my choice of teriyaki sauce(or salt). The scallop skewer was good too but one of the pieces was really chewy. The skewers aren’t very big so I don’t think it’s a great deal, but I don’t see yakitori often so it’s still nice to have several choices here. For maki, I ordered spicy salmon, black dragon, and seafood tar tar. They were all delicious. I’m glad I saw someone else’s tip to ask for no teriyaki sauce on the tar tar roll — this way the clean flavours of the fresh seafood come through. The black dragon comes drizzled in their spicy mayo sauce — I wish I’d know about that — next time I’ll ask for it on the side as it was still tasty. Spicy salmon roll was good as well, nice big chunks of salmon, and not overwhelmingly spicy. I had leftovers the next day and the rice on the maki held together relatively well. The komosubi sashimi was fantastic. Nice big pieces of everything and I like the proportions of everything rather than 3 pieces of each seafood. The tuna was melt-in-your-mouth awesomeness. The salmon wasn’t as flavourful as Wasabi’s, but still very good. I wish the ebi was actually the small sweet raw shrimp that places sometimes have, rather than cooked regular shrimp. The mackerel was amazing! It was served with a dab of green onions and minced ginger, and I thought that it wasn’t fishy(though my husband said it still was a little, and burped up that taste hours later…). It’s not the cheapest place but it’s fresh and tasty, so I would definitely come back in the future.
