My friend and I went in for a quick bite before a movie at the Princess theatre. We got there around 5ish so it was quiet. I really liked the atmosphere and our server/chef was unassuming with a calm quiet energy. I really appreciated the experience since I had just been to an overpriced pretentious boring restaurant the night before. I found the food good — I had the lentil soup and my dining companion had a quesadilla. I was in the midst of caffeine withdrawal and the latte was just lovely! I’m usually very very picky about my coffee and it was just perfect. There is a reuben and green onion cake sandwich on the menu that I intend to try the next time. I will definitely go back!

Come here if you like false advertising. The«8-ounce» glass of wine was maybe 4 at most. The paella was supposed to have chorizo and it didn’t. Two thumbs down.

I was hesitant going into dinner here. Two stars on Unilocal? And I mean, you guys know your stuff. But I was hoping that this time, collectively, you would all be wrong. But I won’t doubt you again. The Two Rooms Café was host to a Girl Geek Dinner, so it was for a big group event that I first came here. I thought the tri-coloured fusili was actually better than my fellow diners did, but it didn’t seem like a dish that would be too difficult to make at home, which always bums me out at restaurants. The chocolate cake for dessert really, really tasted like it was finished off with canned frosting — that kind of synthetic, too sweet kind of taste. Even if it wasn’t Betty Crocker, it didn’t taste great. I’ll give point for the homemade bannock for the starter, which I loved. I probably could have eaten the whole bowl myself. Still, as a carbophile, I know that impressing me with a baked good ain’t all that impressive. Even if the food wasn’t all bad, the price hurt. $ 30 for bannock, pasta and coleslaw, and a small slice of cake for dessert? Regardless of portion sizes, the quality wasn’t there. It’s a great patio to sit on during the summer with a glass of wine, but that’s about it.

New Ownership Hmmmm…Two Rooms. Used to be a great place owned by a nice Polish couple. Couldn’t go wrong. Then the café was sold. Wow. This once wonderful café has taken a nose dive. Worst food ever. How can you screw up soup? Canned soup would have been preferable. And we were made uncomfortable by the new owners and staff. Save yourself the trouble. Go to one of the other fabulous restaraunts on Whyte. Please.

I was excited to get the good news coupon for Two Rooms because I hadn’t been here in a long time, but remembered really enjoying it. After going back last week, I would have been less disappointed had I just let the coupon expire. My Hubs and I grabbed a seat on the patio, and I ordered a warm beet salad, while Phil waffled on some of the other choices. He asked the waiter what he would suggest — the beef stew or the perogies. The waiter said the stew because the perogies were«just perogies». Too bad they were out of the beef stew. And after the not-so-ringing endorsement of the perogies, Phil’s second choice was the goat cheese pizza. Which they were also out of. «Just» perogies it is. When the food was delivered, we saw there was no excitement over the perogies — they looked like the frozen, store-bought variety, and tasted worse. My beet salad was a giant bowl of romaine lettuce with a few cucumbers, a sprinkle of walnuts and feta, and the sickliest looking beets I have ever seen, all sitting in a pool of balsamic vinegar dressing. I managed to choke down a third of the salad before the sight, texture and taste of the beets prompted me to put my fork down. The salad was whisked away without a question, which is fine. I didn’t need it taken off the bill, I dropped the coupon and we left. We would not go back to use it again.

I hadn’t been here for a long time… probably over 5 years ago. I remembered it being a bit overpriced, but the sandwiches, soups, and salads were very good. What a difference time makes. My wife ordered the Beet salad. Mmm, who wants brown lettuce, balsamic dressing, and beets that were either canned, or cooked before canning was invented? They looked sickly, and had absolutely no texture. Truly awful, and easily the worst beet salad we’d ever had anywhere. I tried to order the beef stew. They didn’t have any. Strike one. Then I tried to order the goat cheese pizza. «Sorry, we’re out of that too.» Strike two. So eventually I decided on perogies. Worst decision since I stuck my tongue in a fan as a kid. If cheemo perogies and a bag of sawdust had a baby, that baby would be these perogies. Dry as a bone, slightly pan fried, and bland as wallpaper paste. Even the caramelized onions seemed older than me. Strike three, we’re out of here. Being a slow Sunday night, they seemed anxious to close early. If they keep serving plates like that I think they’ll be closed earlier than they expect.

I’ve been going here for years, but this summer it’s just gone downhill. The last time I went there(which will likely be the last time I go), my out-of-town companion and husband received water in filthy cups. This isn’t terrible, they just asked for new ones. The waiter refused, saying«Oh yeah, that black stuff is embedded in the plastic, so it’s OK.» and then he plonked the grimy glasses back in front of us. The food was cold, it took 30 minutes to get coffee, the cream was brought in another coffee cup(which is awfully tricky to pour from), even though everyone else got a jug… It was ridiculous. And really really not inexpensive. If I’m going to spend $ 60 on breakfast for three I’m sorry, I want it to be delicious and pleasant not dirty, slow, cold, or rudely waited upon.

Two rooms café is literally two rooms big :-) … well, two large rooms at least. I went here for a meal with my beloved Economist magazine, after seeing reviews on Unilocal.I had really never seen it before, even though I’d have walked by this place several times! It’s not hidden in a back-alley, but it’s in this old building that makes you think, when you pass by, that it’s a residential building. Really liked the lunch I had here, the other day. A very modern kind of menu, conscious of the variety of food eaters these days. I had a spicy mushroom medley soup which was vegan and extremely tasty. I can still taste the flavors in my mouth. tangy, spicy. With that I had a regular ol’ burger, given my new obsession with burgers these days! The burger was decent and hit the right spots, but it’s not really best I’ve had. I like the habitable atmosphere of this place, very homely with sizzling sounds of sauteed onions and a potpourri of kitchen-like odors. Yet the furniture is a dark wood, almost Irish pubish in feel, with a semi-modern serving and plating style. The food is generally affordable and the coffee is good too. I believe they serve a few cocktails and some wine and beer, but not an exhaustive list. It’s really one of those places with an understated feel where you could go and hang out without being disturbed. You get what I mean, right? Very private, small space and a passionate owner and cook, conjuring up fine food at an affordable price. It’s not the best place on Whyte and probably not even the best place in that block, but it’s worth the occasional visit. I hear the breakfast is great and would probably re-review it, based on my findings.

This is a great café located on Whyte Ave. The atmosphere is pretty great! They have really comfortable seating and I love their big, solid wooden tables; it just adds to the feeling you get when you’re inside. They place really great music; it’s really relaxing but it doesn’t make you fall asleep. The guy who was the«waiter,» a really nice guy helping out a friend, was super friendly. They make a pretty good hot chocolate. I wasn’t in the mood for anything to eat but they do have a breakfast and lunch menu. So if you wanted to grab a bite to eat this would be a great place to have a quite lunch. It’s too bad the place was a little slow. But the weekends are pretty busy, so if you like a little crazy in your life then this is the place to go to during the weekends. Cool place to hang out with friends and talk over coffee or a beer and maybe some food. Oh just in case you were interested they sell these really unique pieces of African carvings, they look really cool.

Likely one of the most under-rated cafes along Whyte Avenue, Two Rooms has an excellent patio — and excellent coffee. The inside of the café is small and quite hot on a summer day. The outdoor seating area, on two levels, offers a great street view of Whyte, while enjoying your food or drink with reasonable privacy. Two Rooms sells a variety of bottled beers, hot and cold coffee drinks, and a variety of sandwiches and meals. Prices are reasonable(the most expensive entrees are in the $ 15 range) and service is friendly. Coffee refills are a dollar(with the first cup being two dollars). This is a great place for a casual meal or coffee with one or two friends.

Two rooms has lots of vegetarian and vegan options, many of which are very good. The curried lentil soup is nice and so is the tofu sandwich. I’ve had the tofu sandwich twice now, and the first time was better than the second. Its a small place and I think that the busier they are, the worse the food and service get. The second time I went was on Canada day and two of us at my table order the tofu sandwich, got two very different versions, so try to go when it isn’t too busy.

I like to come to Two Rooms and sit out on the patio in the sun. It’s a great spot to people watch. The food is good and there are lots of healthy options. I have the roasted veggie panini when I go there because it’s delicious, but the whole menu looks good. Prices are fairly reasonable, and the coffee’s good and fresh. My only complaint is the service is kind of s-l-o-w. So don’t be in a hurry if you come here. Last time I waited 45 minutes for my sandwich to arrive. Something in it tasted a bit burnt. The waitress seemed scattered and rushed, even though the place wasn’t packed at all. I got the sense that the chef was training someone in the kitchen and it was slowing things down(the kitchen is open and exposed to the main room). Our server was still very nice, although she forgot to bring me a lemon water refill when I asked her. I also watched another couple get frustrated waiting so long for a bowl of soup. The lady’s husband literally left the table and paced up and down the sidewalk for 10 minutes. They did not look happy as they left.
