Mediocre in every way. Looks like a shop that’s been there for… a while. A little dated and far from shiney. Still…another shop crossed off my ever expanding list in my quest to hit every donair shop in the Edmontin area. When I enteted, there were 3 groups ahead of me which was an indication tgat it couldn’t be all bad… I ordered a Super Donair and bottle of water. ~$ 12…a common price. Waited almost 10 minutes for meal. The good… Meat was well seasoned. Toppings were fresh enough. What sauce didn’t run right through and fill the bag was… ok. The bad… I understand how others have complained of their meals being burnt. I won’t go that far… but some of the meat did have some char on it which is simething I’ve never really come accross on my quest. Didn’t totally ruin things… but it could be tasted in the off bite. The pita tated allright… but was too crispy… which seemed like it too was cooked on the grill. Sweet sauce was ok… but so runny it just all wound up pooling in the bottom of the obliguatory bag. Terrible…no. Would I be happy if this was my local shop… no. My quest continues!

Sweet sauce was the only redeeming quality. Meat was crispy(could have been dry; tough to tell). Biggest disappointment was when I asked for all toppings and I received less than half of what they had to offer. I even asked twice but still just had the basic toppings. If you have it there, put it on please. For the price, $ 7.75 with NO cheese, I won’t be back.

This is the worst donair spot in the city hands down, and that’s saying something. You stand around and wait while 2 – 3 guys are working, and it still takes an inordinate amount of time to receive your food. I ordered a cheese donair combo and it was the saddest thing I’ve seen. Watching them make it, I had to ask for more tomatoes, more lettuce and more onion as the portions left everything to be desired. You want extra sauce? It’ll cost you a dollar. They put have a slice of cheese on a CHEESE donair. And guess what, you can taste cheese on half your donair. Don’t bother asking for a full slice of cheese(like every other donair place in the city) cause that’ll cost you a dollar as well. $ 13.25 for that combo when it’s all said and done, this place is a joke run by clowns. Don’t go.

My hunny and I are donair addicts so I decided to give this place a test visit before deciding whether or not to bring him on a date night and although the food wasn’t terrible it definitely didn’t live up to it’s advertised reputation of being the best donair in Edmonton. I came in and had two people in the line up in front of me as well as one on the other side of the counter waiting for the fries to go with his donair combo. The wait in total however felt like sitting in a line up of 6 – 8 people at the bank. I mean it was looooooong! The gentleman behind the counter was working alone and usually I let it slide when faced with a situation like that but he was nowhere near moving with purpose and when I did get to the front of the line I was greeted with«what do you want?» So I ordered my donair and moved to the other side of the counter to wait just to be greeted by the sight of the staff member dropping frozen fries from out of the bag onto the side counter next to the fryer, picking them up with his bare hands, and then throwing them in the deep fryer. MMM nothing says delicious like fries that have touched a counter that was just cleaned with chemicals and the bare hands of someone who I never saw at the sink washing them the whole time I was there. Finally I got the food and I will say the donair itself was fairly decent. I really like that the spices in their meat are subtle. I also quite enjoyed their home made sweet sauce and decent range of topping options. If it weren’t for the fry incident and the crappy front counter service I could see myself giving three stars. Like I mentioned in the first paragraph this wasn’t the most terrible experience I have had but the food alone wasn’t good enough to overshadow the bad qualities and there are so many other donair joints in Edmonton that I likely wont be back.

You want a throw back to the 80s come here! Dated tables, dated menu, dated everything. They do have a claw machine in the corner, that’s at least 2000. The gentleman fielded my order in the tone of the soup nazi!(very appropriate reference for the tone of the place) It was awesome! Conversation went like this: «What do you want?» he barks. «Super sub» «Lettuce tomato onion?» he barks. «Yes» “Sit down, I call you when ready” he barks! I almost wanted to protest just to have him say«no donair for you!» As for the product, it was pretty average. The sauce is a little too sweet for me. And it is pretty messy even for a donair. The meat was on the burned side. They do have decals on the window that say«voted #1 by the Edmontonian» on the window, but it’s the same window with badly faded decals of fries and burgers. It’s close to my house, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

Worst donair experience to date. I came with my girlfriend the other day wanting to give this place a 2nd try after a dismal experience last time. My hubby had sworn by this place and the Unilocal reviews were pretty great! Again, customer service was poor and we had to wait a long time. Someone ahead of me ordered several items, so that was understandable but I stood behind her waiting so I could specify what I wanted on my donair when it came to my turn. Instead of asking me questions, they went ahead and just made it the standard way — not at all what I had planned. Yes, at the till he did ask me if I wanted lettuce, tomato, onion and I had said no onion. But that was the only question I had been asked. I also wanted some garlic sauce and olives and hot peppers or hot sauce. I also ordered a side of their Donair Rolls — 3 for $ 6 — to share with my girlfriend who had been helping me paint and do renos all day. The food was chewy and definitely not fresh tasting. My girlfriend didn’t even want to finish her donair because she thought the meat didn’t taste fresh. She concurred with my previous complaint that it felt like a lot of work to chew through the donair :-( The donair rolls were not appetizing to say the least. Not even sure they were donair meat — could have just been ground beef wrapped in plain dough and deep fried. They were the blandest thing ever :-( I uploaded pics of our food… But wait, it gets worse! Okay, brace yourself… As we were eating, I started to smell cigarette smoke. It got so bad that I started to cough — Yes, I do have mild asthma but I also despise cigarette smoke. I was looking all around and finally went up to the counter only to realize that THEY were smoking inside! SERIOUSLY — the store owner was smoking a cigarette behind the counter in the food storage/prep room. I thought I was imagining things so I told my girlfriend to go check it out. She went up to the counter and ordered a pop — guess she didn’t want to be as obvious as me — and yep, sure enough he came up front holding the cigarette butt in his hand. I will NEVEREVER eat here again. As we were leaving, I threw away the remainder of my food in the garbage can and took note of how nothing appeared to have been cleaned recently. The garbage can receptacle box had dried on/old food all over it. The restaurant itself was not clean and after witnessing who I assume was the owner smoking a cigarette behind the counter, nothing else could really surprise me at this point. 3 trips in total to Queen Donair over the past 6 years — 2 in the last month — 2 big thumbs down! I’m very sorry to my hubby — this was his go to in his 20’s — but it’s now on our NEVER again list!

When it’s a donair day, this is the place. Nothing fancy, but it is good, classic donair. And there is a choice of sweet or garlic sauce, so that is what got the third star.

I don’t eat a lot of donairs, maybe a couple times a years. I found that as far as service goes, this is a fast food type joint that doesn’t live up to the definition of fast food. We waited for 10+ minutes for 2 donairs which is a fairly simple request. It was a typical donair shop as far as cleanliness etc. are concerned. The donairs were good. The portion was great, in fact I didn’t finish my Super Donair(not the largest) and it was $ 8.75.(Cheese, Sauce and meat.) The Sauce was not warm which I didn’t really like however this may be the norm for donairs as I(once again) don’t eat them often. The meat had a bit of a good bite to it, a little spicy which made the experience for me. For me though, it gets a 3⁄5 just for the over-all experience. There is seating room there to eat in and it is ‘normally’ priced. The food is good, as mentioned but service left something to be desired. They also do not accept credit cards there, Cash /Debit only.

I’d say this is probably one of the best donair places in Edmonton. Their donairs have a sweet sauce that can’t be beat. The donairs are quite big so the price seems fair. I recommend the one in the west end compared to the one on 50st. The service is better(north end is very slow) and the meat doesn’t seem as spicy. But overall I recommend going to any Queen Donair over any other donair place in Edmonton!

I love donairs and whenever I am back home in Edmonton, I venture out to find great donairs. I had heard great things about this place so decided to try it. They definitely have great donairs, the only thing I would warn people is that the meat does taste a bit gamey(the same taste that lamb/venison etc. has). If you don’t like that kind of taste, then I don’ t think you would like Queens too much. The sauce is however amazing, I prefer the sweet sauce and it was just perfect here. I didn’t try anything else here so my review is only for the donairs.
