I studied on the weekends a lot during my undergrad degree and inevitably got hungry. Most of the places I frequented were closed on Sunday so I ended up coming here. Now, I realize that the Sunday turnover is less so than weekdays, but if you’re open, you’re open, and I expect the quality of food to be decent. First of all, they have these big signs advertising delicious things like toasted cheese bread. When I ordered them, they didn’t actually have any. They also advertised thick-cut bread /toast, and when I ordered that, the slices of bread were the same as those thin ones you get in the grocery store. The toast was expensive for what it was, barely buttered, and it was also stale. I’m glad I only wasted a couple bucks here … will not be back!

This little family-run bakery and deli is one of my favourite quick lunch spots. Or, for breakfast, I’ve picked up many a chocolate-chip muffin here, too.(Essentially a cupcake without the icing. No, really. My homemade cupcakes aren’t near as sweet as these puppies.) Sandwiches are made fresh to order with a bunch of different options. I liked adding soup to my meal in the wintertime, too. One of the best things at Motherly is the day-old baking. Al the goodies are wrapped airtight so they lose hardly any of their freshness overnight, and they are about half the price of the regular baked goods! Delish and cheap!

I stopped at Motherly today at HUB mall after I saw they had samosas. I was only a little hungry, so I didn’t get to try any of their other very delicious-looking foods. I saw they had soups, sandwiches, Jamaican patties, and meat rolls. The samosa was a good price at only $ 1.50, and it was fairly big. It was very crispy and filled with fresh potatoes, peas, and spices. Luckily, it was too spicy, so I didn’t have to frantically find a water fountain, even though I know water is supposed to make it worse. To tell you the truth, It was probably one of the best samosas I have ever had – much better than the samosas at Planet Organic or Sunterra. I also saw some freshly baked goods for sale like cookies, muffins, and loaves of breads. I can’t wait to come back here to try some of the other great foods!

A favourite campus eating destination of mine. Motherly’s sells sandwiches made to order, on very fresh, thickly-sliced bread. They also have a selection of homemade soups — I tend to go for the turkey noodle or mushroom cream. As well, there are a few pot pies and samosas, which are hot and actually quite tasty — perfect for a quick snack. A soup and sandwich combo is usually around $ 10 and a healthier option I find than other choices in Hub Mall.
