Overall this is a good place if you want to taste East Indian food, very spicy but tasty food. I specially love their curry and vegetarian dishes:) I did not like that one of our family member found some piece of rubber band in his dish, which was not a good experience at all. Also I did not like its seating arrangement. I hope the management will do something about these issue.

Food seemed like it had been sitting out for a while or something. Also we ordered through skip the dishes and they forgot to give us one of the items we ordered and then when we called, they said they couldn’t get it to us since it was too late(9:30pm)

Went here on a recommendation. Décor is nothing to write home about, basic functional. The men’s restroom though in a hideous shade of pink with red floors… Seriously? Alright we here for the food review, stay away from the soup. Tried both hot n sour and the Manchu wok… Both were exactly the same with some boiled chicken pieces(some) watery soup made with a ton of ketchup giving it the only flavour it had. If you can call it that. Horrible. Returned it back. They did redeem themselves though. Had the red pepper chicken appetizer which was delicious, manchurian chicken came out wih a nice flavour albeit it was fried too long hence dry. The noodles were just a tad overdone but good nonetheless. I’m disappointed in the negligible quantity of chicken in the noodles though. All in all, I’ll admit it was a one time thing. Nothing to bring me back but for that one it wasn’t bad. At least ended half decent.

So this place doesn’t look like much on the outside and it’s a bit hard to find if you’re actually looking for it, but give it a whirl despite their dated décor. We had bought a Groupon and weren’t expecting much, most of our restaurant Groupons haven’t worked out, however the quality of the food was actually quite good. I admit that the price was on the higher side considering the amount you get per dish, the butter chicken was significantly smaller than we were expecting, but it was tasted creamy and rich. The prawn biryani was on the opposite end in the size spectrum and was massive! They were generous with the amount of prawns and was mildly spicy. The servers recommended we have raita along with the dishes and it was down right addictive! The naan bread was crispy on the exterior and soft on the inside. Overall we enjoyed our meal and only wished it was located to where we lived, considering most of the Indian food restaurants downtown we have found have mediocre food, are over salted, or have terrible service. I would recommend giving it a try, although it might not be for everyone as the sizes of their dishes vary fairly heavily, so guessing how much to order can be a bit of a challenge and people might not think they’re getting as much value for their money as an Indian buffet. However, I personally think the quality of the food is better.

The first time, my wife and I visited the place, with a groupon-like coupon… we had very good service and the food was delicious… But, we revisited the place without a groupon 5 more times thereafter, and each time it’s getting from bad to worst… don’t really know why… It’s really bad, even the service went downhill… hopefully they call the Guy from«Restaurant Make-Over» for help… They sure need a lot of it… This last time was unreel… let me elaborate… We came and sat close to the window beside another couple that was already there, no one else came in…“that’s a bad sign”… The waitress seem to be nice enough as she came in with the menu. First, the fight was on for 15 minutes with these flies flying around our table while making our decision on the menu. By the way, this menu is way to extensive and terribly hard to make a decision on a choice of food …(They need a smaller menu for sure)…My wife ordered her dish, and when she finally got it, she had the most disgusting look in her face, when she discovered a very long black hair in the sauce in her dish… At this point she didn’t want to eat anymore… And what I ordered was terrible also, not much taste to it, barely any flavor, and the presentation wasn’t great either. Then I had to call the waitress again to ask her if there is anything wrong with their sound system, after listening to scratchy sounds noises for half hour… she said… she will find out what the problem is… It turn out to be that it wasn’t set«right on» the radio channel”…Wow that was reel annoying! Wouldn’t you say that someone would figure it out, after all that time… No wonder no one visit the place… And at the end, the waitress took the price of my wife’s tea off the bill to make up for the long black hair in the sauce…” They went all out”…Sorry but this time is the last time we visited that resturant… I wouldn’t suggest it to anyone except the food inspector maybe!!! My rating should be a big«zero stars» out of five… believe me don’t go there it’s bad…

Sad, sad food here. I am not sure how me and my dining mate managed to spend $ 34 on such low quality food here. We ordered chili chicken, manchurian fried rice and fish pakoras. The batter in the fish pakoras were very salty, thus not making it possible to taste the fish. The chili chicken looked like it was sitting in ‘warm’ mode of an oven for the entire day. Dry and chewy. Tasting of tomato sauce and a bit of spices added on top. Really bad tasting and unhealthy food. The fried rice was sort of a saving grace, in that if I had only ordered the fried rice I’d give them 2 stars. It was supposed to have chicken in it and I could barely find a piece of chicken. More like shards of chicken that could be mistaken for beaten eggs in the fried rice. Never again.

The saddest thing is, two Unilocalers were driving around at 8pm on a weeknight, the restaurant we planned on going to just closed and neither of us checked Unilocal. But then, I was driving… so maybe it was the other guys fault. :) So, we chatted about where to go and I for one was craving what I know as Hakka, but what is known here as Indo-Chinese. I knew a place but had never been there and again we failed as we didn’t check it’s rating on Unilocal. Initially everything seemed okay; the restaurant smelled good, there were South Asian families dining in, and the menu had the three specific dishes I like to order to rate this cuisine(chili chicken, fish pakora, and Manchurian fried rice). We ordered and the food came surprisingly fast… I was worried at that point. There’s no way that this was cooked fresh. Fish pakora: If it was in the menu as tiny, overly salty and squishy battered fish balls with NO chili’s inside I wouldn’t have ordered this. Unfortunately that’s exactly what they consider a fish pakora. Chili chicken: We were offered dry or with sauce; I’m so happy we went with dry because the sauce was horrible. I had made a point to my mate that they had a ketchup label on their buffet and he said that some Indians like to put ketchup on their food. I had never known that, but soon, I got an even bigger surprise… they like to cook with it too. Again, NO chilis, it luke warm, tough, chewy, and unfortunately, not tasteless. Manchurian fried rice: Edible, but not what I was expecting. Umm… NO chilis again… what’s going on? I would have been okay with this dish if it were just called chicken fried rice. It’s not a good CFR, but not terrible. Chai: Distinctly average, but tiny for $ 2.50. Other restaurants in the area generally give me a whole pot, but I would have at least been satisfied if it were a large cup. From their website, their mission is: To become the most popular Indo-Chinese fine dining Restaurant in Edmonton. To serve fresh food cooked in the healthiest possible way with finest ingredients. To provide superior service in a cozy inviting environment for maximum dining satisfaction of all Guests.

Unfortunately, I never got to taste the food here. I placed a order for delivery, gave them my address(which is on the north side) and they gave me my total and told me it would be 45 minutes. After about half a hour to forty minutes, I get a call from the driver. He tells me that because I live past the 10 km delivery radius that I would have to pay a extra twenty dollars. TWENTYDOLLARS. I told him to just cancel my order and he told me that I would have to call back to cancel my order. After many tries calling and them not picking up, they finally answered and accepted my cancelation. Needless to say, I was extremely upset with the level of professionality here and the fact that they didn’t give me a heads-up about the additional delivery charges was absolutely ridiculous.

I visited Masala Wok by the work of a Groupon-like deal. The restaurant is located in a little strip mall and is a lot nicer on the inside than the outside indicates. The menu itself is HUGE, and very overwhelming. Masala Wok’s gimmick is that it offers a variety of indo-chinese dishes, so each side of the menu is one, or the other. While I appreciated the variety, it made it very difficult to choose a dish and understand what I could expect out of my meal. My boyfriend chose to go for indian-style dishes, including the butter chicken and naan bread. I chose a black pepper chicken with rice and vegetable samosas, erring mostly on the side of the chinese side of the menu. We found the food to be mediocre at best — the butter chicken was average, on par with most other chain-indian restaurants, and my black pepper chicken was awful — bland, soupy and ultimately unforgettable. The vegetable samosas, however, were the best I have ever eaten. Customer service was not great on the evening I went — we were one of very few parties in the restaurant, and they still seated us all the way in the corner by the bathrooms, which I disliked. The service was sparse and not at all friendly or hospitable. When I ordered my dish, the first thing my waitress asked me was«Have you ever had this dish before, because it is ‘traditional’ Chinese.» While I’m sure her intentions were good, I still found this question a little bit patronizing — I HAVE had black pepper chicken before, so I went ahead with it, but was ultimately disappointed with my choice. All in all, Masala Wok was an interesting experience, but they seem to be going for quantity over quality with their food. I will not be going back. Unless of course, I’m in the neighborhood and hankering for some damn good samosas.

Masala Wok has excellent service. I wish I would have taken the name of the little waiter because he was such a great help. I would recommend this restaurant, unless you are a wine lover… Jackson Triggs was the choice for white… the only choice.

The garlic naan is delicious and the rest of the items(that I tried) were pretty good — butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, chili chicken, fried rice, and ginger fish. We also had the Tandoori Mixed Grill as an appetizer, but at $ 16.99, and given that the tandoori chicken was dry, this particular item should be avoided. Overall it was a good meal, but overpriced.
