Quite honestly I was impressed by the flavour of this spicy food. It was pretty awesome to have such different dishes presented to me during the Yeg Food Crawl event today. I especially liked the bean sprouts that were served with the spicy fish. The pork was good too especially with the mushroom fungus. The staff here were really enthusiastic and kind when introducing this type of cuisine and the spiciness of the dishes. Apparently cranberry juice is a good trick to try when eating really spicy food(I had never learned this until now). But we didn’t need any cranberry juice as the food was just excellent on its own. I really enjoyed it and would definitely return. Part of the appeal is that the food isn’t just the standard«chinese» food but rather this really reflects the regional cuisine of the Szechuan area.

This place is really delicious– the best Chinese food I’ve had. We usually go with a group so we can order a variety of things, but two things we always get are this delicious spicy fish stew and the spicy green beans. Before I had them at Golden Szechuan, I felt pretty meh about green beans– they’re just one of the more boring vegetables, right? But the ones at Golden Szechuan are life-changingly awesome. They’re crispy and salty and spicy, and when I recommend them to people they usually look kind of sceptical, but everyone ends up loving them. So trust me, get the green beans.

The food is decent and it offers authentic flavours, but it’s not over-the-top good. That being said, what the kitchen at Golden Szechuan pumps out should keep you happy enough. The service was very good on the night that I visited as well and that’s always welcome. All-in-all, Golden Szechuan deserves a look in by those who enjoy spicy Chinese food.
