My goodness. To think that I normally like the Dairy Queen locations that I visit and even have rated a location where I *may* have gotten food poisoning as higher than this one. Well, I’ve only eaten here once: today for Miracle Treat day. And I was incredibly disappointed. Firstly I walked in to a well-signed store with lots of Orange Julius balloons marking the special day. The store itself was relatively empty but it was clean and bright. A woman was leaving the washroom as I was set to enter(seeing as I couldn’t eat a blizzard while also needing to use the facilities) and she complained to staff about the lack of paper towels in the washroom. The staff member went and changed the paper towel roll but didn’t wash his hands afterward(I hoped that he wouldn’t be handling food later but how could I tell that? He didn’t handle my food so there’s that at least). I then used the washroom which was otherwise clean and that was fine. Then I went to order a small blizzard. I chose the Reeses one as that struck my fancy. I went to pay with the remainder of a DQ gift card I had in my wallet(there was only $ 1.25 left) and it didn’t work at the time. The five(it was at least 4 or 5 staff members) staff members who otherwise had nothing to do stared at me while I tried to make the card work. It didn’t work. They just kept insisting that the card was bad and were very rude to me. I asked if they could use the number on the back of the card to make it work, but they were unwilling to make the gift card for their own store work. I paid cash while they all just glared at me and tried to explain that even though it didn’t work here, it might work at another DQ location. Why would that be the case? It’s a Dairy Queen gift card and it had worked for all the other DQ transactions I wanted to make previously. I just gave up and as I had the slip in my wallet from my previous transaction that showed that I had exactly $ 1.25 remaining on that card, I left the store giving them the nearly empty gift card and the slip that showed that it ought to have money left on it. This left me quite grumpy indeed, especially since it should only take a phone call from the store to rectify such a problem and there were ample staff members available to fix this especially since there were no other customers in the store. It was Miracle Treat day and if it were any other day I wouldn’t have purchased my blizzard after such bad customer service, but since the proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital, I was okay with leaving with my blizzard after that. The blizzard itself wasn’t as good as I expected it to be. I’m not sure how much of that was the blizzard itself and how much was my frustration with the restaurant. I doubt that I’d choose to patronize this particular DQ location in the future as I am incredibly disappointed and much much prefer the service I receive at other DQ locations in town. And now that I no longer have a DQ gift card in my wallet I don’t think I’ll be as encouraged to eat at any DQ location again anytime soon.

I am(was) part of the Dairy Queen blizzard club at this location, whereby I was eligible for a free Blizzard on my birthday. I presented my coupon, and the employees rejected it and accused me of forging the coupon. I was humiliated! It turns out that the address that dairy queen had in their database was slightly off from the location’s actual address(I seriously hope this has since changed), but the name of the location and the phone number listed were exactly the same. The other address listed was 1 block away and the employees themselves even confirmed that there was no dq there. I showed them the exact email that I received with the coupon proving that I did not forge the thing, and they still wouldn’t accept it and still reasoned that I must have tampered with the coupon. I left empty handed, vowing never to come back. Oh wait, I have come back, but only when the cereal boxes have deals for free blizzards so I don’t have to spend any money here. I also wrote to DQHQ, but never heard back from anybody from that store. Seriously poor customer service.

I can understand some of the issues the other reviewers take with this Dairy Queen. It seems no matter when i go or how many people are in front of me the food is slow to come out and when you compound this with the fact that alot of the staff here look like they do not want to be there at all it can make for a frustrating experience. In terms of food quality however my order has always came out hot, fresh, and properly prepared. These guys also get a thumbs up in my book for being the only place that never charges me extra for buffalo sauce when I order the chicken strips. Personally I believe alot of the issues here are due to poor management and not properly training staff. There are alot of tasty non chain options on Whyte to stop and grab a bite so while this place is not a must visit in my books they are certainly not the worst DQ in the city.

This happens to be the Dairy Queen two doors down from my apartment. There is no other reason I would go here. I can’t imagine it takes five minutes to make one poorly mixed Blizzard when I’m the only person in line, but this place has found a way. You get the impression that the owner got the franchise, but DQ just hasn’t realized that this place doesn’t have its act together. Fine if you’re stumbling your way down Whyte, but avoid otherwise.

Most of the time I find it difficult to review the big chain places because they are all the same… unless something about it really stands out. Well this has got to be the worst Dairy Queen location EVER! It’s been the same lady working there every time I have been there(obviously an Owner/Operator who absolutely HATES working there — or at least that is the impression she gives). As a Dairy Queen alum(yes, my first job ever at 14) I know that with little effort, you can make a decent, good quality, nice looking ice cream product. I think it takes more effort to actually produce the CRAP treats they dish out here. Biggest ice cream pet peeve — blizzards that are not properly blended(top coating chocked full of the good stuff, bottom 3 quarters; nothing but plain old soft serve). If that’s what I wanted, I would go to McDonald’s and pay less… Now I will explain exactly why I will NEVER go back here. My friend orders a large dipped cone. She prepares it and hands it to him — it would appear that all is well. HAHAHA well… turn that sucker around after leaving the store to find a distinct thumb print! It would appear that the cone was shifting to one side so the lady used her thumb to prop it back up and actually served it to a customer(I laughed sooooo hard but my friend didn’t think it was as funny). I couldn’t actually believe the complete lack of standards. By the time my friend got from the door to the nearest garbage can the ice cream had completely fallen over from the loss of integrity caused by thumbing the damn thing to death. DISGUSTING!!! And that is why I will never be back to this location.
