I ate on the patio here on a beautiful summer night and had a great dining experience. The restaurant is an old Victorian home and has charming checkered table cloths and flowers on the tables outside. I had the mussels, which were very fresh and simply and wonderfully prepared. The service was also excellent — quick and professional. If you’re looking for a more elevated dining experience in Duncan, this is it!

5 of us went here for my mother in laws birthday, she has been raving about it, and she also has attended some of the owner/chef private cooking classes, The lovely old craftsman building and the interior finishes make for a really unique dining experience, great service, The food how ever is quite dated, i really believe their target customer is the wealthier retired Vancouver islander. nothing bad nothing special, the extra little treats they sent us at the end were a really nice way to finish of the evening… Really really poor local craft beer selection. and they should be showcasing some of the excellent cowichian valley wines. In short if you want to get into your parents/grandparents good books take them here.

Top marks for the entire experience. Wonderful, innovatively prepared and locally sourced food beautifully presented in a very romantic setting. Highly recommended

So ecstatic the Cowichan Valley now has a fine-dining boasting point with the establishment of Hudson’s On First. My family has enjoyed Chef Dan’s superb lunch, dinner and most recently brunch menus, and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our experience. The service is top notch, the setting is classy without being pretentious, the service warm and hospitable, the presentation spectacular and the food just hits it out of the park. Current favourites include the Lemon Meringue Tart and my husband’s favourite, the brioche french-toast on the Brunch menu. Hudson’s is a culinary experience made local, literally. Don’t miss out.

I love old character homes, and this gem has been recreated as a fine dining opportunity in Duncan. The chef/owner creates a lovely menu, featuring the fresh eclectic offerings of the Cowichan Valley… the Warmland is a foodies paradise. Enjoyed a very interesting chicken dish, and a great dessert… will definitely be back, and it’s a special occasion place.

First time at Hudson on First — saw the owner on the Chef TV program as alot of people did I’m sure, and was excited to try his famous food for the first time– walked in at lunch and was asked by the waitress if she could help me(I was wearing jeans and a baseball hat so she might of thought I was there to fix the fence or something) no problem– so I told her I was there to eat lunch and proceeded to order the red snapper fish and chips and was unfortunately disappointed — the French fries were very plain and common similar to what you get at the Dog House or White Spot and the batter was very light and attractive but had no distinctive taste whatsoever — tasteless — and the Waitress(as I presently look at my bill to find her name which is absent) was busy for most of my meal and not around and therefore another reason I do not remember her name… my experience was extremely unexciting and was disappointed with the Fish and Chips and service ! Sorry …
