I had 20 people coming over and needed some good Chinese takeout with short notice. I have been having a hard time finding a decent Chinese restaurant in the Port Coquitlam area. They were very accommodating — got a big food order done in 40 mins: chow mein, fried rice and fried fish pieces. All were fresh, piping hot. Still hot when I got it home. Some of my guests thought the fish was a bit salty but it was a dried salt fish dish. I would definitely come back here again to try other dishes and try the all day dim sum.

I came here with my family. We came here for dim sum and the selection was not big as other resturants. The service was quick and the food itself was really good. The only draw back to this place is that you dont know what you are paying for. the reciept was in chinese and the resturant has a very fishy odour. Other than that. decent place to get a quick bite.

Another tucked away gem offering dim sum and Chinese dishes that will delight your tummy and wallet! Busy during the weekends, with a steady stream of families during the week, enjoy well made Chinese cuisine with friendly service without having to drive to Vancouver or Richmond.

This place i tried a couple times now. Its not good food or quality of meats they use. and dont order the salt n pepper deep fried squid they do not know how to make it! Horrible, pretty sad because all the other cantonese places make it awsome! If you want good dim sum or cantonese dishes go to richmond to a place called Neptune seafood resturant. now thats good dimsum and dishes! And the salt n pepper squid is the best there!

The food tasted fantastic and so I was quite surprised when two hours later my entire family threw up. Not going here again.

Just came back from lunch. Just as we were hoping for. Real Chinese dim sum as it’s supposed to be. Typical Chinese restaurant décor and tables and clean. You can go safe with dumplings, pork buns and spring rolls or you can be adventurous with chicken feet and tripe. The staff was friendly and spoke English. Most of the patrons were asian which says something. Good home cooking! Service was quick as there were always at least two ore three carts been pushed around with numerous choices on each. Each time they come around it’s a whole new selection. All items $ 3.25. Dim sum everyday 10am-10pm Go and enjoy. We did and will return when the craving returns for dim sum.

Very disappointed with this restaurant, both food and service. I would probably say this is my worst restaurant experience yet, and I’ve dined out 1000s of times! SERVICE: I went to this restaurant on a Friday night around 8pm. When I got there, we were the only people being served(which should have been a bad sign being a Friday evening). The waitress seated us then went on to carry a phone conversation in Chinese and left us at the table. We had to ask for a menu to get one. We also had to explicitly ask for water, which should automatically be offered given all their food is full of sodium. One of the dishes looked just un-edible(Chicken chow mien) and it was thrown away along with the seafood soup. FOOD: We are honestly not regular Chinese food eaters(besides several Chinese buffets and Panda Express if you count that). We tried Dim Sum, which was recommended by many reviewers and were disappointed. The main dishes were even worse. The only things that were edible were the pork/shrimp fried rice(#117) and vegetable rolls. Below is a list of items we tried and what we thought of them: * Dim Sum — We had a shrimp dim sum which was a clump of tasteless shrimp wrapped a white shell. Another one looked like beef/pork with potatoes didn’t really taste like meat at all. Everything was drenched in a slimy sauce and tasted soggy. * Shrimp and vegetable — Large amount of sautéed vegetables with a few pieces of shrimp. Decent quantity for the price, but don’t expect a whole lot of protein. * Vegetable spring rolls — Nothing amazing, but at least they were edible. You have to ask if you want any sauces with it. We asked for a sweet & sour sauce. * Pork & shrimp fried rice — Probably the best thing we tried there, but again, nothing amazing. Your standard fried rice that you get anywhere. Again, pork/shrimp quantity was limited and it was mostly rice. * Seafood Soup — We ordered the«small» soup, which was pretty huge. However, it’s another case of quantity over quality. Soup’s texture was slimy(like semi-melted Jello) and it smelled very«fishy». Tasted vary salty. We ate about 1⁄20 of the bowl and the rest went in the garbage :( * Chicken & vegetable chow mien — Probably the worst dish we ordered. There were 5 small pieces of chicken, the vegetables were asparagus(I think), and the rest was mostly noodles. Everything was drenched in the same slimy sauce. I tasted one piece of the chicken and it was terrible and soggy. The noodles and vegetables weren’t much better. We asked to get the dish replaced with another fried rice but the waitress refused. The dish was also thrown away. Out the door, we paid $ 65. I didn’t leave a tip at all due to the horrible experience(that was the first time I’ve ever done that in a sit-down restaurant). Again, my review was based on my lack of liking of their slimy sauce and excessive use of sodium. Maybe that’s what authentic Chinese food is supposed to taste like, in which case more power to the Chinese people! As for me, that’s probably the last time I’m eating at an «authentic» Chinese place, regardless of reviews. I may still go to Panda Express or other Chinese buffets where I can actually see what I’m putting on my plate.

Located in a small strip mall and with a look of a rundown Chinese restaurant from the 70s and 80s, Kam Ding certainly did not offer a pleasant first impression. Perhaps it was the gloomy weather or my persistent prejudice against pungent smell and preference towards squeaky clean restaurant. However, I am thankful that I am a simpleton who forgets all other negative things in the presence of delicious food in my mouth. Dim sum from Kam Ding was no different. Perhaps it’s time for me to learn that more rundown the place is, better its dim sum is. I am sure there are few exceptions but to me, that is the general rule of thumb. Got four items — seafood shumai, fried veggie/seafood tofu curd, pork BBQ bun, shrimp/scallop dumplings — and Singaporean style noodle(lunch special I think?) and had a delicious meal for the two of us. Fried tofu curd was little cold but still was delicious. BBQ pork bun had a different marinade inside than others I have tried before and I really liked it. Bun was chewy and the meat and the marinade was sweet. Shumai and the dumplings were nothing out of ordinary but still delicious and very flavorful. In addition, we only paid $ 23 including tip/tax for two people. Although we did not stuff ourselves — had to go to work right afterwards — it was a great, inexpensive meal for two people. Definitely will come back there for another meal before I head back down to Portland.

I found this place a few months ago and I’m now a regular, eating there at least once a week. The staff is friendly, food is authentic Cantonese cuisine. My dad says it’s like what his mom used to cook. I would stay away from those dishes that are not Cantonese though. Price-wise, very reasonable. Especially if you order the set dinner. It comes in sets for 2, 4, 6 or 8 pax. You can order 4 dishes from the menu and it comes with soup of the day and dessert too. And you can even order a 4 pax set for 7 persons, and they’ll make sure that you all have enough rice, soup and dessert. The dim sum is good too. I prefer to go for dim sum outside of the normal morning hours as it gets very crowded. Good thing is that they serve dim sum all day. Highly recommended.

Tried this place for Dim Sum based on the recommendations on Unilocal. We weren’t disappointed. The food was very tasty, came fast and the servers were very friendly and helpful. The place is small and not fancy but the food is what really matters. It is cart service and like most cart served dim sum the food isn’t that hot, but that is to be expected. The price was good too, good value for what you get. We will be back!

This place has the old school cart style, the low prices, and best of all — The flavors that remind me of my childhood in Vancouver, growing up, with my parents and uncle’s friends taking me to dim sum. I am incredibly thankful that such a place exists here in my new home of Coquitlam. It looks just as rundown as the old places that I used to go to back in the 1980’s with the great taste and classic dim sum dishes that I’ll always return to. Good ol’ days relived with Kam Ding. Amazing.

Yesterday was the second time i have gone to lunch at Kam Ding, the place rocks. Every table was full so we had a 10 minute wait, not a big deal. The food came as soon as we were seated and as was the case the first time I ate here it was very good. Not a huge selection but what there is … Yum! I’ve eaten dim sum all over the world and this holds up.

My friend suggested this place for dim sim as she used to go here with her schoolmates. Figured it sounded good so I gave it a try. A good sign was that there were a lot of fellow Asian people eating here. Arrive early as it gets super busy around lunch time. A good time to go is around 1:00pm as the rush ends around that time. The ambiance isn’t the most attractive but it is clean. The usual large round and square table are everywhere. The crab tank needs a little cleaning as there are not crabs in there at all. The extension ladder that was in the men’s room bathroom stall was out of place but funny at the same time. Service however isn’t great but also isn’t terrible. I know it sounds very odd. There are two ladies, one with the cart and the one with the tray. They do a great job getting to every table which is great as some other dim sum places(Luxe) they tend to miss tables. There are two other ladies that work there, waitress/hostess and they do a good job of filling drinks, clearing dishes, and greeting customers. I can reason with them for not coming around all the time as it gets very busy. At times you will see a lot of customers getting up and getting utensils, chopsticks, and hot water temselves. The food; kudos to the kitchen staff that make everything fresh and pipping hot. The kitchen is a cornucopia of not stop dim sum. I have been here five times and everything tastes consistent each time from the bbq pork buns, shrimp shui mai, and the potstickers. I also recommend the«footballs» not too sure what thyey are but they’re great. With all of the dim sum being one price $ 3.25 it’s a good deal but be prepared to wait in line for a bit as it does get busy

Kam Ding — more like KaCHING! Cheap and delicious. We’ve been searching for a restaurant that serves DimSum at night and this is one of the few. We actually found this using an app on our blackberries and called a few different places trying to find dimsum for dinner. Not a huge selection but very tasty! How it works: Lunch — your typical dimsum, food comes around on carts, you can look and pick what you like. Dinner — no carts, place your order all at once and get your order. We waited about 20 minutes which was totally reasonable. We will definitely be back :)
