They have the best organic eggs in town! The service is really good and the stores looks amazing after the renovation and expansion. They have game meat during by hunting season which is great, price is on the high side but you get high quality meat there!

I really wanted to like this place. I read all of the great reviews on Unilocal, and I was looking forward to getting good quality, ethically raised meat at a fair price. I have been to a couple of butcher shops around the city, so I had some basis of comparison when I walked into this one. Holy Smokes Batman! I walked out paying over $ 30 for *four* chicken breasts. The prices at community/co-op/planet organic are no one where near that bad. When I took the meat home, I marinated and threw it on the grill and was hoping that those prices would result in a really delicious meal. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but not that good. In fact, I really didn’t notice a difference in quality from any of the other butcher shops that I have been to. We also purchased some ground lamb and elk sausage. The lamb was incredibly fatty(a common problem with lamb, I know) but also was fairly tough. The elk sausage, though, was absolutely amazing and I would definitely buy it again. As far as ethically raised/cruelty meat stores go, this one has good products but I really think that an equal quality product can be found elsewhere. However, I only mean the quality/flavor…since I’m not sure about the claim of cruelty free(for this or any other butcher shop) I am not trying to judge it on that fact. My rating is based on the flavor(3⁄5), price(2⁄5), and the diversity of product(5⁄5).

I ordered half of a cow from this place. It came really well packaged and a tonne of meat(almost literally) for $ 3.99/lb. They customize your order and package it as you want it. I wanted 1 lb packages(except for things like roasts), and that’s what they gave me. I indicated I wanted inch thick steaks, boom, done. The people working there are very helpful and know their meat. I know it’s not organic, but it’s grass fed and local.

A real gem of a butcher shop, specializing in ethically and naturally raised meat. They also carry a variety of specialty meats, e.g. it’s one of the only spots in town to get wild boar. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality/variety of the products, including non-meat gourmet items like Pascal’s Patisserie bake-at-home croissants which were $ 2 cheaper for a six pack than at Cookbook Company Cooks. If it was closer to home, I’m sure I’d be in there all the time!

I hear from the bookseller next door that they are closing down and Second to none is expanding.

Now, this is great meat! Whenever I eat anything I’ve made with the pork, beef and chicken that I’ve purchased, I’m reminded of my childhood and how beef tasted like beef back then, pork didn’t have that weird«barnyard» flavor, and chicken had major chicken flavor! It’s another example of a great place to buy good products in Calgary.

Second to none meats is an excellent Calgary butcher for all the reasons listed by the other reviewers. One thing not mentioned is that they have some other game meats, such as wild boar, ostrich, elk, etc. And I’m sure this list changes often, so that alone makes it a good reason to check in often. I pick up whole chickens there with regularity, along with one or two other items to keep some variety. The real reason I make I go there weekly is too ensure there is always Nitrate free sea salt bacon in my fridge. These thick-cut slices of pork belly streaked with fat are a staple in my house, and will continue to be until I find a butcher in Calgary with better bacon.

I had lived right across the street to STNM for almost 5 months before I ever walked in. It usually closes sometime around 5pm to 6pm on weekdays so I would have really boot it home in order to get there in time. Once I finally discovered it I was pleasantly surprised! They have a ton of glutenfree goodies! I found great glutenfree sausages, pastas, sauces, and other great treats. The guy works there is super knowledgable about the products and also very friendly. Basically, the ideal corner butcher shop in your friendly neighbourhood.

A sweet little secret of a butcher shop tucked in a strip mall on 4th St SW. Second to None Meats is second to none. This is as independent as you get, STNM is a clean, butcher shop providing the Mission area and community with local, high quality Alberta beef, pork and produce. STNM is concerned with the multitudes of health issues that have heightened in human population. They are concerned in a healthier diet therefore beef comes from Canadian Celtic products; the cattle here receive the best quality care until it arrives onto the dinner plate. Cattle are not injected with hormones or steroids, and no antibiotics are used in finishing period. It is ensured during this process that animals are relaxed and are at the lowest stress levels possible. The pork chosen at STNM is from Alberta owned Broek Pork Acres. Here hogs are cultivated without unnecessary antibiotics, without growth stimulants and without animal by products. Market hogs are raised on pasture and in the fresh air and sunshine not cooped up in pens. STNM had a nice selection of handsome cutlets and a good organic produce area. They are also selling Alberta coffee in a variety of sizes. The owner there was extremely friendly and had so much pride in the commitment that was put into his business to provide the best for his clients.
