Let’s be honest, this thing is expensive, but they have the monopoly do what do you expect. However, the tour is excellent. We did the 5 night Vancouver to Calgary one. We were put up in the Vancouver holiday inn for the first night, executive suite. The sandman in Kamloops was not as nice but still good and we arrived to find chocolates on our pillows. The caribou Lodge and Spa was really nice in Banff, but of course all the spa features were extra and the ‘pool’ is(as described by reception) more like a warm bath. The Sandman in Calgary was awful. Still, the food on the train is really good and our host was very knowledgeable. Plus there was a constant supply of fresh fruit at the back of the train for people to help themselves. The area ‘outside’ for red leaf service to take photos is pretty small, but I got plenty of snaps because most people couldn’t be bothered. In fact I was amazed at how many people slept on the train or read books! What a waste of money! The helicopter ride(although short at 12mins) was really good and the views from the gondola amazing! If I had any criticism of the package, it would be that the host didn’t know enough about this part of the package. Oh yeah, and the salt and vinegar chips on board were rubbish!
