James, whilst I appreciate how clever you think I am to want to travel 8 blocks for a mere donair, walk 8 blocks home, roll a paper towel into it, take one bite and return 8 blocks to the shop just so I can get my money back AND a free donair, this did in fact happen. Do I think it was on purpose no, do I think the guy was more concerned with being on the phone and getting back to his call he left on hold, thereby missing this sheet of paper stuck to one of the wraps or something, yes. Did I watch him make the whole thing? No, I was reading a Metro. Did he make up for his error with customer service absolutely not, hence my post. I would have gladly let it go with some goodwill gesture of some kind, because I was inconvenienced and it was not very tasty, a free donair and a sincere apology would have sufficed. When I returned to show him the donair he put down his phone with his bare hand, grabbed the wrap out of the cooler with his bare hand, placed the veggies on my wrap with his bare hand, THEN put a glove on when he went to mix up the meat. I am a small bit a germaphobe and watch when a glove goes on or when hands get washed prior to preparing my food. He DID put a glove on the first time I came in, but not the second time. Inconsistent just like the papertowel. I had high hopes for this place, well as high as you can get for donair outfit which isn’t exactly fine dining but the papertowel in my food, the inconsistent hygiene and the customer service abilities of staff has me not ever going back.

Located in that odd little alley of restos on 17th Ave SW next to Reid’s, the former King’s Grill has transformed into the Pita Med, a purveyor for Mediterranean food such as donairs, falafel and shawarma. Well, as they’re literally brand new(maybe days old as their signs were literally just installed yesterday), I won’t do an all out review based on initial impressions as once they iron out some of the kinks, they hopefully will be much better. Out of curiosity as I left my favorite Bahn Mi and take out Phở place, I decided to take a look. It’s well lit, clean, and new, and prices are about average for a place like this. They have a new take on poutine, and will offer delivery service. As for the food, well, I had the chicken shawarma sandwich. Well, for the most part, it was average, though I found the chicken to be a little too dry. When it was cut and grilled, I noticed that the chicken was pretty dry when he put it onto my pita as it practically crumbled from his spatula onto my pita. He’s quite generous with the veggies and was willing to add any and all sauces onto it. But again, with the chicken so dry, it wasn’t really a shawarma of particular note. In addition, it really could be seasoned a little better. I’ll probably go try it out again in a few weeks to see if the recipes has been tweaked a little better. In the meantime, I’ll give it a pass myself. #56 of Unilocal’s 30-Day Review Challenge
