Here’s what the Oak Room Lounge has to say about the Oak Room Lounge. Straight from the menu: «Where the martini crowd mixes with the Microbrew crew, Cosmopolitans enjoy a relaxed chat with the smoothest single malts in town and enticing tapas are both appetizer and accompaniment.» Cool, right? After heading here last week for the first time in my life, I’ve got to say I think they did a good job summing it up. I’ll have to admit I was quite uncomfortable walking into Oak Room — it’s positively drenched in feelings gentry, nobility, and covered in a thick layer of that old money vibe. Even in writing this, the voice in my head is starting to take on a smug British caricature. Mmmyes, I do say! Well played ‘ol chap. Cheerio! Being a lover of pubs and dive bars, the first feeling I got was one of being instantly aware of my social status, or this case, the lack thereof. Pulling up a luxurious high-back sitting chair, looking across at the multiple dazzling chadeliers, and listening to the live jazz piano versions of The Beatles’ Hey Jude, I slowly eased up into surroundings and you know, I really started liking the place. Oak Room Lounge does exactly what any good pub or dive bar does, it knows its character, and it absolutely owns it! You don’t need to come from royalty to enjoy a cocktail here,(but if you do, this is the place to go) you can go because you want to hang out with that crowd. Dress nice, drink tea, eat crumpets, have fun with it! Why? because it IS fun. Being her majesty the Queen’s birthday when I attended, it was a remarkable celebration indeed.(There I go with the accent again…) There was a Korgi to greet me at the door and several cardboard cutout of old mum that I couldn’t help myself but to take a selfie with. It’s very apparent that while they take their cocktails seriously, they are by no means«uppity» — they just look that way.

My family and I went here for Mother’s Day brunch and I was blown away by the food, the service, and the overall presentation. I got the steak and eggs, and it was perfection. I’ve had brunch at other places before, and this is definitely by far my favorite. I also liked how our server was very kind and was always checking to see if we needed refills, or if the food was great. The best part is the dessert. We got the«Chocolate for Me & You,» the presentation was absolutely beautiful. I honestly did not wanna eat it because the presentation was just on point. I’m honestly thinking of going back here and take a few of my friends just so they can see how awesome that dessert is.

While staying at the hotel on business last week, my co-worker and I had a craving for dessert at 10pm, so why not check out the oak room?! We each had the vanilla crème brûlée, with wine/cocktails of course, and it was fabulous. We sat at the bar and our bartender was amazing… so personable and friendly(Stacy maybe?). Only reason I’m giving four stars is because the pistachio biscotti that came with the brûlée wasn’t as fabulous as the brûlée itself. I will also add that I stop in the oak room for pre-dinner drinks often, and the service is impeccable. Definitely hit the oak room if ever staying at the fairmont!

I dined in The Oak Room as part of the Fairmont’s Lunch and Spa package. Talk about a great deal. For less than half the cost of the normal entrée(and only $ 10 more than the cost of a 60 min massage), I had a great lunch in addition to a lovely massage. Travis, my server, was personable yet professional. He made sure to refer to me by name(as it was printed on the spa lunch card I had to present to him), which added a nice personalized touch to the service. There is a special lunch menu for those dining as part of the spa lunch package. Travis assured me the entrees were meal sized and would fill me up. He was right. The kale and quinoa salad with grilled chicken was excellent. I was able to easily shred the well-seasoned chicken into the lemon-dijon coated mix of quinoa and kale with shaved parmesan. The meal was filling, yet light enough so I didn’t feel overly stuffed. Other offerings on the spa menu include a salad nicoise, cobb salad and quinoa burger. Beverages, however, are an additional charge. Even so, I enjoyed my café americano served with biscotti and rock sugar stick. Even when not enjoying a relaxing spa afternoon, I’ll have to keep The Oak Room in mind as a great place to meet friends and business contacts for a mid-week lunch.
