Lakeside Spa

My overall experience was mediocre. I went in for a massage and although the treatment itself was good the customer service was not. Neither the massage therapist or front desk girl were overly friendly and spoke to each other like I wasn’t sitting 5 feet away from them and couldn’t hear everything they were saying about me. Very unprofessional. I unfortunately will not be returning.

First time going to this spa, and not really sure if I would return. When booking my appointment the receptionist knew this was my first time going there, but didn’t offer any advice on where they were located. I was able to find the strip mall, however there was no signage or indication where the spa actually was. I called to find out and was placed on hold for five mins waiting.
The spa itself is small, but comfortable. I had a booked a massage, and believe her name was Jillian. She was nice and polite, however I found her massage to be lacking any great quality. The bed was heated and the room clean, but the massage wasn’t an hour, as booked. She never asked how the pressure was, or if I wanted to focus on any specific areas. I had written on my medical form I was trying to relieve some stiff muscles. I receive more of a brief rub down, rather than an actual professional massage.
I have had several massages before, and this one was subpar compared to the ones at the Fairmont Banff springs. I don’t believe she was an RMT, because she didn’t even work on my neck and shoulder areas, which hold a lot of stress & tension. Also on their website it shows a ‘special’ for a first time massage of 79.00; however this is only a Relaxation massage. This should be made clear and not have the client guessing or being mislead to having another option for booking at that price. I left unhappy with my 50 minute massage, & happy it was a spa finder gift card. I wouldn’t have paid otherwise for that type of student massage skill level.

Like other reviews have stated, this spa is quite small and can be hard to find if you’ve never been there. But I’ve had nothing but great experiences there. I usually get relaxation massages, and the therapists are great. They’re genuinely nice people, and always make sure the pressure is alright. I also like that they don’t use a ton of oil. The rooms are nice and quiet, and I always leave feeling relaxed and happy.

The spa itself is small, but really nice! You feel relaxed just walking in there.
I had an hour long therapeutic massage with Dawn. Hands down one of the best massages I’ve had! I feel far more relaxed and confident that I will wake up feeling even better tomorrow. I often feel the strain of trying to have a conversation while getting a massage. What do you discuss? Do they like talking while working? I’ve never known how to go about asking… Don’t get me wrong, there are times where I wish there was no conversation, but I was in a chatty mood and Dawn is hilarious! It’s no surprise to have makeup all over my face from having my face shoved in the hole, but today was even worse as she had me crying I was laughing so hard! Can’t wait to book in again!

My partner and I have both been getting massages at Lakeside Spa for approximately two years. We love the registered massage therapists, and atmosphere that Lakeside Spa provides. Whenever I go, I make sure to book an appointment with Carly. She is outstanding, and honestly the best massage therapist I have ever met. She does an awesome job, knows what’s she’s doing, and is generally outstanding at her job. Along with being a great RMT, Carly is also just a wonderful human being.
Another thing to remember is that it’s important to know that visiting the same therapist time and again does actually make a difference as they come to know more about you as a client (e.g. Do you like greater pressure? Do you have any sensitive spots?), so building a rapport with your RMT and consistently seeing someone you like can really help.
My partner and I are both on Lakeside’s massage a month club which gives patrons a discount on monthly massages. The value and training of the therapists makes this a particularly good deal for the location. The ambience and comfort of the spa are also bonuses.
I’ve had facials at Lakeside before, and both times I found these particularly relaxing experiences. They recently hired a new facialist, and she was wonderfully gentle and generally awesome at her job.
I see in the other reviews that Lakeside can be very hard to find. This is true. Some years ago it switched hands and became Lakeside Spa – it used to be known as Heartworks (note: my first massage ever was at Heartworks after which I vowed never to go back, but in switching hands many of the kinks I saw at Heartworks were smoothed). If you are looking for it, it’s on the second level of Bonavista Mall – head up the stairs and you can’t miss it.

The place was hard to find. There was no sign or anything to tell you where to go. The reception is slow, massage therapists were fresh out of school and the owner is rude! Will NEVER go back!

A bit confusing… Signs on building and google search say ‘Heartworks’ but the website and place is actually called ‘Lakeside Spa’. I believed they had changed owners sometime ago but the building still has not changed the sign.
I was looking for a place close to home that can get out my tight muscles and this place was a surprise find. The website makes it look basic, but once you get there, it’s really a nice, dimly lit, serene spa like environment. They have laminate hardwood, slippers for you to use (if you want), nice sitting area, tall ceilings, nice cushy heated massage tables with thick towels and blankets to cover you… and it was quiet!!! I don’t like when I hear ppl talking in other rooms and I didn’t here… and they play nice serene music during the massage. I was even in a large room once that had a stand up shower in it and a fountain on the sidewall! Very unexpected but a nice surprise. I’ve had 2 massages from them and it’s been good every time.
It’s in the Bonavista shopping mall, on the second floor by the elevators.
I love that they’re opened in the evenings and on the weekends.
