La Prep is a eatery in the main food court of Scotia Place adjacent to the 7th Avenue exit. I ordered the Summer Melody Salad which consisted of grilled chicken, strawberries, blueberries, almonds and lettuce. It was accompanied by a raspberry vinaigrette. The food was pretty good. The strawberries had flavour and none of the dreaded sour white hanging off of them. The lettuce tasted fresh and not wilted. The vinaigrette was great, not too sweet or sour. The service was a little gruff to say the least. The guy who served me just kind of barked at me when he answered. Perhaps I am exaggerating, but he could use a customer service tone in his engagement with customers. Mostly one word answers, with little interaction and no smile. Perhaps they were going with a caveman style of service to fit the organic theme. Also, it took 10 mins to make the salad. They don’t pre-make their salads. On the one hand that is cool because things are cut fresh, but I was in a hurry. I guess I didn’t expect it to take that long. But the more I thought about, it was a pleasant surprise. The salad is pricey as well, $ 9.99. The portion is an adequate size, but not worth the price.
