Beautiful gallery dedicated to some functional, some fanciful, jewelry and wearable art. Came in to find engagement/wedding rings. After an initial chat with a part-time staff, we were instructed to come back and speak to one of the partners, Shona. Shona was brilliant, we told her what our budget was(less than 2k), and what our ideas where(postmodern take on a traditional engagement ring, evoking natural forms and materials). She walked us through some things they had in stock and the catalogues of some artists they represent. We decided on an artist, John Carnes; materials, sterling silver, stainless steel, rose gold, and a rough, industrial diamond; and a technique, Japanese folded metal, Mokume Gane. For less than you might spend on a cheesy mass produced engagement ring at People’s, we received two incredible pieces of art. The wood grained rings were exactly what we envisioned, and my wife’s hammered gold setting and uncut diamond is a beautiful riff on tradition. Staff were fantastic at getting everything set-up, even at what I suspect is substantially less then many of their usual commissions.
